It was time to say goodbye to Zero. Null had promised Zero that he would get so strong that Angels will have to let him visit. Zero had wanted to leave him with a little bit of hope.
"You are right, if you get strong enough I'm sure you can earn God approval and come visit". In reality, The Watcher knew that was unlikely, he also knew that once he got back to heaven it would seem like only a blink and Null would have lived his whole life. Without the short-lived races, time just flowed differently for Angels.
After Zero had left Null had settled down and was starting to feel a little depressed. He had gone months at a time without interacting with Zero, but this time was different as he didn't know if he would ever be able to.
Chris suspected something like that might happen and invited Null over to his newly claimed room to talk with him and Jania. Chris and Jania had become fast friends over the last few days since they had no one else to talk to.
Null had talked to Chris a couple of times on mars but he was still nervous to be talking to the two of them. He had never had anyone to just talk to before and on mars, he had to be careful because everyone was trying to gather intelligence.
Jania and Null hit it off straight away as they could talk about their experiences with the super-soldier program and Chris would then talk about everything he learnt during officer training. Null was having fun.
"So Null, why are you so special?" to Chris it was an innocent question, but to Null, it was the same as what the Martian scientist would do when fishing for information."
"So you just wanted information, just like everyone else" Null got up to leave. Jania reached out to hold his arm. "It not like that Null, we are all in this together and we are genuinely interested. Look we can't go home for better or worst we are stuck together."
"you can't go home?" Null didn't understand why they couldn't go home it hadn't occurred to him. Chris informed him of everything that had happened since he return from Mars.
"Oh, so the dwarves gave you some superpowers?" Null had directed his question at Jania who was talking about her new implant.
"I don't know they had implanted 360-degree cameras for normal and infrared vision, but all I see is a blur at the moment."
"I can help you with that, seeing in 360-degree can be difficult, later I can help you with some tricks I have" Null continued to tell them both how his Angel ability Energy vision.
"wait so you have X-ray vision? so you can see us naked right now?" Jania was first to realise the implications of Null's ability.
"Yes, is that odd?"
"Uhm maybe keep that one a secret, it might seem a little bit creepy" replied Chris. This led to a round of friendly banter. Null had decided that he could trust these people so he opened up a little.
"I can't tell you everything but I'm special because the way I cast spells is different to everyone else"
"Wait you can cast magic? Like real magic" Jania hadn't been informed of any of this.
"Sort of, if I can think of something and I have enough affinity and energy I can normally do it. I need to create a new spell maybe you two can help"
"what do you need?" asked Chris.
"Idea's, I want to create a new spell that will make me awesome"
"Do you have a magic missile? every mage needs to have a magic missile" Chris was relying on his knowledge gained from playing VR games but if someone said mage his first thoughts were magic missiles.
Jania jumped in "Oh but it needs to be tracking if you want it to be awesome".
Null had played enough VR games himself and he couldn't believe he missed such an obvious spell. It shouldn't even be difficult. Create an Energy ball and add some motion. Over the next hour with their help, he practised creating miniature energy balls and throwing them across the room and even getting them to track a target.
Yet his upgrade mission still wasn't complete. He guessed it was because he was just using two separate spells one to make the missile and one to make it move. He tried to make it so the missile would change shape and size while moving but he couldn't do it. 'I guess channelling two fields at the same time will take time.' He said good night to Chris and Jania and went to sleep on it.
