"Alright then. Professor Nara can you examine the two competitor's weaponry and armor to ensure that no one is cheating not that I expect them to be." Professor Adara said while looking directly into the eyes of the two students. They both knew that cheating was off limits, and anyone caught cheating would be expelled from the school and wouldn't be able to learn magic anywhere else.
Once Professor Nara had searched the two for physical and magical foreign objects, he scanned them both using advanced light magic that only a few healers were capable of to check that neither party had taken anything to increase their performance except for potions that the school provide the students that would increase their physical abilities and would heal wounds so that students would not die from fatal injuries.
Professor Nara called Professor Adara across, "Is there a new potion that school is providing?" He asked as he noticed a difference in the effects of the potion the school provided in both competitors.
"Yes, there is. It is a new experimental potion that is now in use. The Headmaster and the medical staff said that it should be safe and wanted to see it's effects in action to determine whether or not it is better than the other one that we have been using." Professor Adara said.
"Okay thank you." Professor Nara said as Professor Adara left the centre of the arena to spectate and not be in the way of the bout. "Okay then are you two ready?" Both competitors nodded. "Alright then. This is a first blood match. Once either of you draws the blood of the other or one of you yields, then I will stop the match and declare the winner. If neither of you can not continue due to fatigue, then it will be a draw. Do not attempt any fatal attacks against your opponent or you will be disqualified. Do you understand?" They both nodded. "Then begin."
As Professor Nara said that Marco drew his blade from it's sheath and charged at Charlotte at full speed. His body was enhanced by the potion they had both had and his speed was increased by air magic. His blade lit up red and then burst into flames as he swung his blade at his opponent. Charlotte saw the attack coming as it was Marco's most basic move to catch his opponent off guard.
Her blade went from silvery blue to dark blue in an instant and a small tsunami of water flowed out of the point of the tip of her rapier. Marco smiled because he didn't expect her to be caught off guard by his charge but still attempted it. "Terra walk" Marco said as small stone steps that lead into the air came out of thin air. He climbed the steps and then he leapt over Charlotte and rolled to break his momentum on his landing.
He turned around the second he stopped himself, "Thunder Gale," he shouted as a tornado full of lightning formed in front of himself. He sent it towards Charlotte as she dispelled her mini tsunami. The tornado was moving quickly towards Charlotte, so she stretched her arms out wide. To Sasori and all the Year 1 students it looked like she was about to take the tornado on, but Marco and the Professors knew better.
She then yelled, "Shadow fort." At those words, a stone wall erupted from the ground, and it was taller than tornado and about half the size of the arena. It almost reached 15m and was 10 m wide. What was special about this wall was the fact that it was imbued with darkness magic that could absorb and destroy almost all magic unless it was a lower level then the other spell. Both spells were level 5, so the darkness attacked the tornado.
A mages magic couldn't hurt their caster so what Charlotte didn't know was that Marco had sprinted into his tornado to block her view of him and the wall she had made also blocked her view. As soon has he heard her casting her spell he had darted right to get around her wall and swing his blade from his dominant side.
Charlotte knew he would use her wall as cover, so she had used air magic to levitate off the ground and kick off her wall the second his blade came at her side. She did a backflip over the blade and then darted forward after landing. Marco and barely missed his target and had just sliced through the ends of her golden hair. As he realised what was happening, he turned his blade, so it didn't cut into the wall and get stuck.
He looked to his right as Charlotte lunged at him. He was superior in speed and was just able to step back in time to not have his side pierced by her blade. It only cut through the fabric of his white shirt and then she continued passed him. Marco turned his blade down towards where Charlotte was to cut her down before she could dodge, but he didn't expect what came next.
Instead of turning and jumping off the wall again like Marco and everyone watching expected her to do. She instead opened a hole in her wall that she could fit through and instead of losing her momentum she used it to get out of harms way. Marco was shocked at this move, but Professor Nara was impressed by her ingenuity and how she could keep such an open mind in the heat of battle.
Once on the other side of the hole she closed it behind herself so that Marco could not follow her and had to go around to give her a breather. Marco had dispelled his tornado to keep his focus on the objective at hand, so Charlotte was safe on the other side. She then jumped back as far as she could to see everything and prevent a surprise attack.
Marco quickly sprinted around the side and then Charlotte dispelled the wall to have all her attention on the approaching opponent. "Crystal Floor" shouted Charlotte as an icy path appeared in front of Marco to slow him down or make him fall. Marco didn't even flinch, "Scorching Feet" he said as he continued his charge. His boots combusted into to flames hot enough to melt the ice in front of him.
Charlotte stepped forward to intercept her opponent and not be caught on the back foot. Marco sliced horizontally at Charlotte. She used the tip of her weapon to push the blade off target and then side stepped and aimed for the centre of his chest. Marco quickly dispelled Scorching Feet and leaned back as he slid under the pending attack. He turned on his right foot to face his opponent and as he did, he suddenly felt dizzy.
Charlotte saw it as an opening and dove at her opponent to seize the opportunity that she before her eyes. As she was about to connect her attack with Marco's shoulder. She felt the air change and extreme pressure fell on her. She blinked and then Professor Nara was standing in front of her holding the tip of her rapier with his thumb and index finger of his left hand, "That's enough."
