Chapter 36 - 4.2 : COLD.

"Who's side are you on, old man?"

"Who's side am I on? Isn't that a given?"

"I'm not asking the watcher who just silently waits for his turn to shine, and then fade away into nothingness. I'm asking the individual behind that mask. Who's side are you on? Don't you dare to say that you're still on the neutral end, since that won't hold true in any instance."

"So, you want me to come out with an honest answer? Fine, I'll let you know but when I do, I shall ask you something in return."

"Sure, it's a fair ask. I'll entertain your request, as long as it's within the realms of possibility."

"Fine, then let me be clear. As the one bestowed with the powers to guide the righteous and the chosen one, I would wish for the humans to be victorious, as long as there's the very little death toll. But as an individual, that doesn't change much. I still want the humans to win, but I want all of them to suffer. Is that clear?" He looked at me with eyes of bloodlust, so immense that I could feel my blood run cold, and a chill down my spine.

He reprimanded himself, especially his way of conduct, and apologized for his emotions getting the better of him. "Now, since I've held my end of the bargain, it's time for you to keep your word."

"Sure, don't hold back."

"What's your stance on this? About everything I said."

"Nothing. There's nothing in it for me, and more than ever, I'm not interested in this inter-species war that's about to pour down. But there's nothing much for me to do. Well, it's quite confusing but to say the least, I'm indifferent if I had to choose a stance on this particular agenda you prioritize so much."

"Well, staying ambiguous won't help you in the long run."

"That's only if I long enough to worry about it."

"So, you view yourself as a temporary fix, a stop-gap perhaps?"

"More or less."

"That sort of mentality ought to eat you up eventually."

"Not that it would matter much."

"You know that you can be much better than who you are right now, right?"

"Perhaps, then again that depends if I really want to be."

"I see that you're beyond a point of saving."

"And I see that all that's left now is meaningless conversations here."

"Then you're welcome to leave."

"To just return back to another mess?"

"Sadly, yes."

"Beggars can't be choosers. Got to work with what I've got."

"You don't like to impose your views and opinions out loud, do you? Isn't that why your inner world is in such a mess?"

"Yeah, I know that."

"And yet, you don't seem to be bothered by it, even a little bit."

"Yeah, you can't undo what's done, and you can't bother to change that's beyond saving."

"Honestly, I wonder if it's that self-deprecating approach of yours that makes you different from others in the end."

"Maybe? Could be? Should be."

"Fine, but how do you plan to tackle the problem back there?"

"Ah, that. I'll just work it out on the flow. It's pointless to ponder about that stuff too much."

"Kid." He stopped me from moving ahead. I didn't look at him, but just stood there, signaling that he's got my attention. "Beware of what you do from henceforth since now you know the weight of what your actions carry."

"The next time we meet, I'd rather us have a chat in an ambient place rather than this murky place. This hits home in a lot of ways that I don't even bother listening to you."

"Well, I'll make sure that the necessary arrangements are made the next time we meet."

"Tch! I was hoping that this would be the last time we both would meet."

"Now, now. What fun would an old man like me would have if I can't have a chat with the only person who understands what kind of person I truly am."

"Well, personally stating, that flaw's your own fault. Don't try to rope me in with some sentimental nonsense."

"How harsh! Well, I guess that's also you in a way."

"I swear, the next time we'll meet each other, I'll drive whatever the hell this light is through your heart if you ever chose to interfere with the flow of things and tamper with my life."

"Looking forward to that day, little one."

"Likewise, old man."

Man, it feels cold. I can't see a thing. Where am I? What is this place?

"Good riddance, I thought you were dead." Agh, this voice, so I'm back in my so-called inner world. "Do you remember what I said? About what was to happen when that whole world you relied upon collapsed? Look around you, this is what it is."

Hazy, and dark. A place of nothingness, yet filled with the heaps and heaps of snow. The debris that crumbled down upon me, was now underneath this snow. Just like my life, there was nothing left of it for me to reminisce about.

Guess, this was just a self-reflection of what was to happen again. Like an endless cycle.

"Yeah, and your point being?"

"You don't seem to be bothered by it?"

"If this implies that I might lose sight of who I am, turn evil, and just go on a rampage, then so be it. That's where you're supposed to help me right? By guiding me on the right path."

"It seems that you're mistaken about something. If you expel darkness, then I shall consume it. Right now, I'm consuming your ever so feeble life but with the enemies that we're going to face, we wouldn't stick long enough. That's why I'm trying my best..."

"Have you ever tried it? The dark energy."

"Yes, every single time I had a new partner." He sounded bitter, as though he were filled with remorse.

"Then help me."
