Chapter 35 - 4.1 : LAY BARE!

"You understand how you're a part of this, right?"

"Wait, I'm a part of this?"

"My my, perhaps I've given too much credit than you actually deserve. Or maybe, it's actually time you drop the act and be the person you actually are. That would spare us both the trouble." I put down the face I was holding onto. Seems like it was of no use here. He seemed to be pleased. "Ah, yes! There's the look I've been waiting for."

He chuckled at the sight of my true nature. Tch! As much as I hated it, he saw straight through me. I got to hand it to him.

"Did you think that I wouldn't notice how you had softened up a little towards the girl? Just because you might give her the impression that you are trying to help her and get on her good side doesn't mean that you can fool me. I'm not a fool like those chumps you gained your trust from. I've seen enough humans to know who's real and who's not."

"Yeah, I'd be damn surprised if I did fool you. Tell me, do I remind you of any of those scumbags that held you captive during your hellish days? Does your blood boil every time you have to approach me, even if it's for the sake of the greater good of the world? I don't think you'd be such a weakling who'd put his own kind instead of the betterment of the world, would he?"

"What is it that you're trying to achieve here? If you're trying to provoke me, then I'd have to let you know that they don't affect me in the slightest."

"Aww. Too bad, I was sure that you'd show your real side to me. But I guess it's only your dead family that'd remember you. The failure you were, that is."

"You insolent fool!" There was a sword right next to my neck. One cut and I'd be done forever. All while I was holding my hands in my pocket, and looking at him as a clown in an ailing circus. I'm supposed to laugh at a dead joke. It was definitely that kind of face I had on me right now. I was sure of it.

I smirked, and he caught onto it. I immediately swung my neck towards the sword, only for it to disappear. Pfft! How annoying.

"Are you out of your goddamn mind? What were you expecting?" I was giggling, trying to hold onto the laughter. But in the end, I just let out a dry laugh.

"I don't see how this is funny."

"Oh, I find it quite amusing. The fact that rained down with such monstrosity, and then pointed your sword at me, only to take it back away, it must be miserable. Having all that power, and yet to keep your hands tied up."

"You think I can't do it, or I won't do it?"

"Challenging me to test your limits now, aren't we? Sadly, I have no reason to entertain your foolish provocation...Man, how is it that you guys speak in such a sophisticated manner? Don't you ever feel like your energy's being drained out of you, keeping up with such stupid methods?"

"How long is it that you plan to play out this character?"

"Oh this, not for so long. You know, the thing with extroverted, arrogant, and know-it-all characters is that it's very draining. You can't keep up with such an act for the long run, especially when you're like me who's just withdrawn from the whole society, barely speaks with anyone, and keeps to himself."

"You are an odd specimen."

"Well, you're not the only one to say that."

"Drop the act." His tone was still hostile. "I mean it. Just be your true self and have a serious conversation with me."

"Well, here's the thing. I don't know how long you've been following me or keeping an eye on me but I'll let you know this. Whatever true personality nonsense you've been blabbering about, I have none of it."

"What did you say?"

"Did I stutter?"

"So, you mean that you have no true self whatsoever."

"I'm pretty sure that if someone as knowledgeable as you claim to be yourself, you'd already have an idea on the treacherous and miserable life I once held. And it's not easy for one to go along with such a life, as themselves. Most people stop trying and lock themselves up, or kill themselves. But sadly, I had no interest in it whatsoever."

He was listening to me keenly. Without taking his eyes away from me for even a moment, he was reading me, the way I talked, the way I carried myself, and the way I was expressing myself. Every single moment, I was being closely observed. It was like I was a human subject being tested for some new drug, with all eyes keenly locked on me.

"That's when I decided to build up a character, and play it. And as time went on, I played multiple characters, so much so that I was versatile in acting it out. But sadly, in doing so, I forgot what kind of person I actually was. If I had to bet some money, I'd have to say that I was a clumsy, dimwit crybaby, crying my heart out to see how unfair and unjust the world around me was."

And now, it's time for me to switch positions.

"You know, if we were, to be honest, I knew you had some hidden motives when you explained about all that stuff in great detail. It doesn't take a genius to add 2 and 2 to figure out what it is that you're up to."

I let out a deep sigh.

"Right now, I'm inside a world of my inner world, where I'm facing against someone who knows me all too well and asked me a sensible question. I'm yet to find that answer out, in reality, that is. But I don't think that this will be the last of it."

I pulled out a light saber and placed it by his throat in a split second. Just answer me this...

"WHO'S ALLY ARE YOU?"
