Chapter 1 - The Start Of A Path

"Why? It doesn't make any sense. I thought heroes were supposed to protect people and what they hold dear to them. I believed that heroes were there to save people not harm them," Christopher thought to himself as he was forced to watch such a horrible event take place right in front of his eyes. He was left utterly helpless and weak.

Well, things weren't always this bad. In fact things were going pretty well for 16 year old Christopher.

*a few hours earlier*

"Another wonderful day. I get to live happily once again, I'm so glad to have been given the gift of life. I could not have asked for anything better," said Christopher as he awoke from his slumber before leaving from his enormous bed which dwarfed that of the average person. He had been sleeping inside his room which was located inside the third floor of a magnificent white mansion that looked more like a palace. Of course there was a reason for all of this to take place.

"Sir Christopher, have you awoken from your slumber? Your family awaits you in the dining hall so that you may attend your daily breakfast session," said a maid as he knocked before speaking to Christopher.

"I understand, I'll be coming very soon," said Christopher in a very casual tone as he quickly got dressed in a casual shirt and sweatpants before rushing down stairs to where a large table filled with large quantities of food were prepared however there were to be only three people seated there, those being Christopher alongside his mother and father.

Christopher began to intake as much food as he could in one bit while both his parents ate in a civilised manner. Although Christopher was born into quite the Nobel family, he was never forced to take lessons on how to adequately mind his manners. All because of one person.

"Christopher, there's no need to rush. The food isn't going anywhere. Moreover you eat like an animal, it wouldn't hurt for you to act more proper. After all, you have such high status in this world, you should not be acting like a simple commoner," said Christopher's mother as she tried to give her son a word of advice.

"Let him be Bonnie, he's still a kid. Let him enjoy his life as much as he wishes," said Christopher's father as he allowed his son to do as he wished.

"You're always spoiling him, this is why your son hasn't learned any manners even though he's 16 years of age," said Bonnie as she tried to argue back to her husband.

"Thank you for being understanding. I know it must be hard on you to endure all my requests. Just please allow our son to live freely just a bit longer," said Christopher's father as he tried to deal with his wife's anger through being caring instead of adding fuel to the fire by arguing with her. Hearing those words, Bonnie stopped scolding her son and just continued to eat her meal in silence.

To the side of the dining table was a large television screen which was intentionally placed there for a very specific reason. As the family of three continued to eat normally, the tv continued to play as the news channel was open just like any other regular day. However this day was different as it took place only once every year.

"Welcome back everyone to our yearly program. This only takes place once every year so gather around everyone and prepare to hear the top 10 heroes of this year," said the news reporter which put everyone on edge as it was one the greatest announcements of all time.

8) Bonnie Jules

"Mom! Look! You're there, you've managed to jump 2 ranking spots in just a single year!" Christopher yelled out in excitement as he couldn't have been any happier that his very own mother had managed to be placed on that list. A list which created social and economic powerhouses throughout the world. Seeing the position she had achieved also brought a smirk to Bonnie but she also made sure to keep a note that she would keep rising using the momentum she had just received.

The next placement was the second place position which the suspense from it alone brought everyone to go completely silent. Even the animals across the world wouldn't have dared to move as a revelation as grand as this deserved the utmost respect. This is because of one thing. There were two people who dominated the top 2 spots of the ranking every year. Those two being Christopher's father along with another man which was commonly known as the greatest hero of all time. The two have always been rivals however there is a slight difference in that Christopher's father always ended up in second place while the number 1 hero stayed at the top. Every year, Christopher's father works harder than the previous year in hopes of finally achieving the ranking that he wished to achieve for so long

2) Jules Serves

1) Crimson Nanna

"Dammit! Another year of staying second place! I just can't seem to win!" said Jules in a rather frustrated tone and he had the right to do so as even after another year of hard work, he could not seem to surpass the person who sat in the number 1 position.

"Father, why do you seem so angry? You do realise that you managed to keep everyone in this world safe so many times that you managed to accomplish this task better than everyone in this world except one man. You seem to overlook all your hard work as you dwarf any other person in this world in terms of power. Even if the ranking says you're second place, you'll always be the number 1 hero in my heart," said Christopher as for once he said something serious which seemed to baffle Bonnie as this was one of the few times that Christopher managed to give good advice. Especially to someone like his father who got very emotional to say the least during the yearly ranking announcements.

"Thanks Christopher, I feel much better now. You should start making your way to school now," said Jules as he lied about feeling better as he did not want to accept that all his hard work was for nothing. He was not ready for that yet.

Nevertheless, Christopher did not see through the fake front that his father put up and believed him before leaving through the door as he ran outside of the mansion. However, right before he could walk out of the large double door gates, Christopher heard a rather massive explosion to which he instantly turned around to see what it was and what he saw scared him for life.

Christopher saw a large fire inside his home to which he quickly rushed towards the dining room to see if his mother and father were okay. That would be a grave mistake as what he saw was something that would completely break and tear apart the metal stability of a person.

Inside the dining room Crimson Nanna, who was the number one hero in the entire world. Sure Christopher had seen him several times due to his family and Crimson's family being relatively close since both the father's of each family were rivals. Which was all the more surprising for Christopher to see another man which he looked up to just like his father do something so horrible.

Inside the dining room was Crimson Nanna with his hand right through Bonnie's chest as blood continued to flow out of Christopher's mother all while her eyes were completely blank which meant that she was no longer alive. As for Christopher's father, he was completely unconscious as if he had been hit so hard that he lost consciousness. After seeing this, Christopher gave a gasp of fear and disgust at what he saw to which Crimson turned around to face Christopher.

"Oh, it looks like you're still here. What a shame, I didn't want you to see this but it's not like it matters," said Crimson in a confident yet disappointed tone.

"You won't get away with this! I'll make sure you pay for this!" Christopher yelled out in an agonised tone.

"Me? Pay? You realise who I am right?" said Crimson, which confused Christopher as it didn't matter who Crimson was, all that mattered was that he was doing something wrong and needed to be punished for his actions. Or at least that's what Christopher thought.

"Oh I see, you still don't truly understand how this world truly works. That's fine, you'll just have to see for yourself," said Crimson before pulling his bloody hands out of Bonnie's chest and leaving the house before the fire spread everywhere and burned the house to the ground. If Christopher had been left alone, he would have died along with his father but luckily for him, his father awoke from his state of unconsciousness and picked up Christopher before taking him outside all while Christopher continued to cry from losing his mother.

"Hey, father. He's going to pay right? Please make him pay for his crimes. Do your job as a hero and get revenge for mom," Christopher pleaded all while his father stayed silent.

"Listen Christopher, I'm going to be completely honest with you. I can't do anything about this. No one can. That's how the world of heroes works. If someone outranks you, they can do anything they wish and get away with it like nothing happened. The media won't even cover this because they wouldn't want the image of the number 1 hero to be ruined. All you can do is stay silent and walk away," said Christopher's father which completely broke Christopher. At this point, only tears continued to flow out of Christopher's eyes. He didn't make a single sound as his mind couldn't comprehend what he had just heard.

"Why? It doesn't make any sense. I thought heroes were supposed to protect people and what they hold dear to them. I believed that heroes were there to save people not harm them," Christopher thought to himself as he was forced to watch such a horrible event take place right in front of his eyes. He was left utterly helpless and weak.

"So I could get killed too? I could be tortured for days on end and no one will come tor rescue me because they're outranked by that man? I mean who could come back right now and kill me and not a single person would know about it. Is that what it truly means to be a hero? If so, I don't have the need to be a hero any longer. I rather become a villain," Christopher said to himself with a new determined look to make the world of heroes for failing him.
