Chapter 7 - Moon Lake Pack

"Get it done, I said."

Soteria shook her head, confused.

"I don't know what you're speaking about, I swear! She didn't tell me to do anything, Jason, she really didn't! You know, she always says it to you when she does, "she said.

He growled in anger, but she just kept shaking her head. Where was this coming from? She had just gotten back from the grounds, and he started asking her a series of unintelligible questions. What did he mean? He knew that Salana usually told him everything she required. This time, she really didn't know what he was speaking about.

Moon Goddess knew that she didn't want to be caught between the Alpha, his Beta, and his wife.

"Why do you ask? Do... Do you need me to do something for you? "she asked carefully.

He glared at her, furious.

"Huh? Isn't it your fault that I'm in this position? You are just a mongrel! How can I ever have peace when I always have to mediate for you? Can't you think about others more? " He said, angrily.

Soteria was astounded by his words. How dare he? She worked like a slave all day and night! They made her take care of all those hundreds of animals herself. She harvested the crops herself, took care of all the cooking, and cleaned the entire packhouse on her own. What more could she possibly do to 'think of others'? Mediate? Was watching her being beaten and taken advantage of what they call mediating? Well, then he was great at it.

He constantly acted like he was going to take over the pack, but even Soteria, with her limited knowledge, knew there was no way he would ever be able to. This world was run on bloodlines, after all. Nathan was Alpha because he and his family before him have always had the highest bloodline purity. Bloodline purity refered to how close you are to the original line of werewolves. The less diluted your blood was, the higher the purity. You couldn't be Alpha without that. Blood responds to blood. Even enforcing rules within the pack revolved around bloodline coercion. How could he, with his negligible bloodline, take over? Wasn't there still a son to do so if something happened to Nathan?

However, Jason was convinced of it. His conviction made him act even more arrogantly. Of course, he only did it in ways the Alpha wouldn't suspect. In fact, the only reason Soteria knew was because she had overheard him. That was one of the reasons why she disliked dealing with him. She was always worried that he would realize she knew.

"Anyway, you will be cooking twice the amount of food tomorrow night. We will have visitors from a neighboring pack. You should do your best to actually be of some use, mongrel. "

"What? But I have to stay with the animals that are in heat tomorrow night. If we miss this period, the stock of animals we have will decrease significantly..."

"I don't care! It's your problem, not mine! I was told to relay the order to you. You will cook and make it a success, because I'll kill you if you don't! And the Alpha better not be angry at me because of you! You better find some way to make them work. "

She stood there, shocked as he left. Either way, the Alpha would be mad at her.

What should she do? She couldn't do it all on her own. In addition, she heard from the gossip of other members that the visitors were from a bigger pack. They were visiting to familiarize themselves with the surrounding areas and possibly to allow wolves from each side to court each other. It would be even better if they could find their Fated mate. The odds weren't high for that, however.

In the past 2000 years, there had been a sharp decline in wolves finding their other half. Many thought that it was due to so many bloodlines being diluted and spread out among the humans. Quite a number of wolves found their mates among humans due to a human's ancestor being a werewolf. However, while they wanted mates, many often pursued bloodlines and stayed within their areas, so the chances of them meeting each other were rather low.

In fact, the Lunar Queen was blessed with the ability to find the other halves of wolves. The stronger the Queen was, the more wolves would find their mates. No one apart from members of that line was able to do so. Unfortunately, no one knew where the Queen was at this time.

She placed her face in the palms of her hands, lost. What should she do? The Alpha was so clearly insistent on her preparing the meal herself. This was a big occasion for their pack, so he would never forgive her if it didn't turn out well.

Their Moon Lake pack was one of the strongest in the area, but they had been on the decline in the past 50 years. There were about four hundred members, including the ones too old to take their wolf form and the few pups. If they were excluded, they'd have around two hundred members who could shift. Even though they were declining, they still had some strong adult wolves, and their location was one of the best in the area.

Their pack was named for the lake in the center of the forest next to their Moon Lake City. Everyone knew about the lake located in the Moon Lake territory.
