Something kept feeling wrong to Soteria. The way Nathaniel looked at her with darkness in his eyes was nothing particularly new, but now it felt like there was something more to it. Like the calm before the storm. She just couldn't figure out exactly what triggered it. If that were all, it would be fine, but why was Salana looking at her with undisguised glee in her eyes? It was as though she was anticipating something. She didn't even try to hit her today.
What happened after she passed out last night? The only other person she could ask was Estelle, and she left with her right after she fell unconscious. Sigh. What even happened to her last night? The last thing she remembered was Estelle comforting her and feeling a familiarity when their hands touched. In that instant, she felt her blood heat up and that was the last thing she remembered. After Estelle recounted what had happened, she realized that a lot of what she felt before she lost herself, Estelle also felt.
The only difference was the mating symbol that appeared on Estelle's hand. She warned Soteria not to tell anyone about it because she wouldn't be safe. When she thought about how worried Estelle was about her, she felt warm inside. She smiled as she went about her kitchen prep for the morning, thinking about how good it was to finally have a friend.
The other odd thing was that the Alpha kept looking at her like he wanted to say something but didn't know how to. Every time he looked at her, Nathaniel got more and more angry. She wondered if what happened last night had something to do with their behavior.
It was extremely uncomfortable being stared at by all three of them. They just stood there watching her every move without saying a word. Estelle walked in and frowned slightly, unsure about what was going on. She leaned in close and whispered, "Hey, what's with them? Do they think you did something? It looks like something is definitely wrong. "
"I don't know," Soteria replied. "They were already here when I got to the kitchen, which was weird enough, but none of them yelled at me today either."
Estelle frowned again. She wondered if they had discovered anything about what happened last night. As they busied themselves around the kitchen, they both reached for the flour at the same time, causing their hands to touch.
"Oh, I'm sor---" Soteria's voice cut off as she felt that familiar heat rise. She quickly let go of Estelle's hand. As she looked up, she noticed that Estelle was similarly affected. What she didn't notice, however, was the way Nathaniel's face darkened as he observed them.
It's almost scary how silent the kitchen is. Knowing they were watching, she kept working as hard as ever so they would be finished quickly to get away from this awkward atmosphere.
Now breakfast was almost finished, and the girls were coming in and out, taking the finished dishes to the table. Estelle and Soteria worked together to scramble the last of the eggs and make the special ordered meals that Salana always requests.
After finishing Salana's meal, they were finally done, and thankfully not a moment too soon. It was exhausting doing all that work while being stared at. She wished they would either say what was on their minds or get out of the way instead of making her uncomfortable. Salana still had that smirk on her face while Nathaniel looked like the calm before the storm. Whatever happened, she just didn't want to be in the surrounding areas when he erupted.
With his sadistic personality, it was sure to be a bloodbath.
"Soteria! If you're done, come clean and help me wash the wares, "Estelle shouted. Soteria was so happy she was called to do something because the staring was starting to silently pressure her. Estelle turned to Nathan, saying, "Alpha, breakfast is ready. Why don't you all eat it while it's hot? It tastes better that way."
Realizing that they were indeed being ridiculous, Nathan left with Salana in tow. Nathaniel refused to move until Nathan pulled him behind them. As soon as they left, they breathed a big sigh of relief. There was just too much pressure on them there. Way too much.
They made quick work of the wares used to make breakfast and Estelle left to change her robes since she got egg all over the ones she was wearing. When she left, Soteria decided to take over behind the sink, finishing up the last of it.
She felt a sudden chill and looked around to see Nathaniel standing there once again.
"Hi, Soteria," he says.
She ignored him and kept washing one pot after the other. Even if she concentrated solely on my hands, she could still feel his gaze as if it were a touch on her skin. It was disgusting.
"Playing hard to get as usual, little rabbit? That's not what this pretty robe tells me, you know. "
Couldn't he just stop? Everything about this man disgusts me. Simply being around him already made me nauseous, but combined with the things he was saying, she really wanted to heave. Why should she have to hear this?
"You sure know how to get some attention from me, don't you little rabbit?"
This 'little rabbit' truly did not want any attention. There were so many good-looking girls in the clan, so why was he always picking on her? Was it the 'thrill' he was after?l
