As she weaved her way through Moon Lake City, most people didn't even notice her, and she could actually enjoy the quietness of the night. Since it was mid-October, it wasn't too cold either, just the perfect temperature for a walk. She needed it after the events of the day. There was no need to worry about safety, even though she couldn't shift. She was in one of the safest parts of the city, so the chances of encountering some rogues or anyone threatening were rather low.
Moon Lake City could be dangerous at times due to having several clans within it. Having so many packs in the same city was bound to raise tensions at some point. Werewolves were by nature aggressive, as their wolves strive for dominance constantly. It was an attribute that came as part of the package of being a werewolf. The younger wolves were always looking to fight in order to establish their place within their packs and, by extension, within the city, whereas the older wolves defended their packs against any who might threaten them.
In fact, the main reason the Moon Lake Clan was declining was due to the constant fighting among the packs. The Moon Lake Clan may have been known as a peaceful one, but that doesn't mean they would stand by and allow themselves to be run over. The Alphas of the past and the other fighters had made it extremely clear to the surrounding packs. They were constantly challenged since they were the biggest clan in Moon Lake City. The fact that the Moon Lake City was named after the pack was in relation to how powerful they were for hundreds of years. Several packs would team up against them, and while they would always come out on top, it took a toll on them in terms of the injuries and deaths of prominent members of their pack.
When she finally made it back to the main house to assist in the preparation for breakfast, she was surprised to see Jason and Bryce still up.
"Hey! Come here for a second, please. "
She wasn't particularly in the mood to entertain them now, but it was better to get it over with. She doubted they would call her over for no reason, but she was still baffled as to why they called her.
"Have you seen Nathaniel since he went to the kitchen this morning?"
For some reason, they looked annoyed at Nathaniel. Why would they ask her, of all people, about him?
"I haven't seen him, but why would you ask me about him?" she asked.
"Tsk. He asked about you earlier today, so we thought he might have gone to see you. " Bryce replied.
Why would Nathaniel ask about her, though? She couldn't think of a reason why.
"Well, I'm sorry I can't help you. I haven't even seen his shadow since. " They exchanged a few more words before she went into the kitchen to do her work. As she went into her room, she pondered. What could he possibly be looking for her for? As far as she knew, they shouldn't have anything to do with each other.
The next day, he wasn't at his seat in the dining hall for breakfast, either. It seemed like everyone was concerned about his absence. A few of his friends came to her, asking about his whereabouts, but she was just as clueless as they were. In fact, more so than they were, because she was perplexed as to why they kept coming to ask her, of all people.
But what was he thinking, disappearing like this?He may be the Apha's son, but unexplained absences like these generally weren't tolerated. It was simply asking for trouble. Jason could have his father punish him for this type of behavior. Their clan truly was not easy on those who broke the rules.
She tried not to think about it too much and instead focused on her day's chores. But after making breakfast and washing up the breakfast dishes, she couldn't help wondering where he could be. It seemed like no one had seen him all day, and she had heard Jason complain about him not showing up for the patrol.
The whole day went by, and even Salan came by her place to interrogate her. She didn't have a satisfactory answer to give her, and as a result, she almost slapped her to vent.
She wished she knew where Nathaniel was, too! During dinner, while she was serving, she saw many people staring at her oddly, and she realized that word had spread through the pack that he had been looking for her before he disappeared. Wait, something couldn't have happened to him, right? Her entire being was frozen. Nothing could have happened to him. She was almost positive. He wasn't weak, and he was able to shift perfectly well when he needed to. No, it's just been a day. There was no reason to think that something had happened. She could just pray that she wouldn't turn into a person of interest as it wore on.
