In a huge white bed, a lady with silvery long hair slowly opened her eyes to reveal her grey orbs. She tried to get herself familiar with the strange environment she woke up in.
She sat up on the bed with her head leaning against the headrest. "Where am I?" The lady said as her eyes moved about the wooden hut.
Just then an elderly woman entered the hut with a porcelain cup in her hands. She hurried to the bed where the lady was trying to climb out of bed.
Seeing the elderly woman's face, the memory of what happened last night flashed before her eyes.
She had lungs cancer and was at her last stage.
Three months ago, the doctors had said she only had three months to live. For over two months she has been living in the hospital receiving treatments to see whether she could prolong her life even for a month longer.
Having someone she loves, she felt hurt that she will have to leave him all alone.
She pitied him more than she pitied herself. Seeing how he always smile at her each time he visits her hospital room always make her heart ache badly.
A month ago he had suggested saving her with his powers. She was cool with this idea when he told her about it. She did not see a problem becoming a vampire since the man she loves is a vampire but her decision changed when his mother told her the price that comes with saving her.
Saving a terminally ill patient was going against the law of nature. A vampire who breaks this law must pay a price. A life for a life, that was the law and this is why she strongly stood against this plan.
She had thought that he was cool with her decision until last night when he revealed that he wouldn't stand and watch her die when he could save her.
Her lover secretly took her away from the hospital to this unknown bush. She felt so sleepy that she fell asleep midway to their journey only to wake up after they had reached this hut.
When she learned about his plan she had cried her eyes out begging him not to sacrifice his life for her sake but he wouldn't listen. His mind was already made up and nothing she said or did could change his mind.
Tears flowed from her eyes when she recalled how he bite her last night only to cut his wrist and fed her with his blood.
"Where is he?" Yelena's pretty face covered in tears asked, her grip around the woman's shoulder tightening even more.
Because she couldn't control herself, she dug her long nails into the elderly woman's shoulders.
"He is gone. Gone never to come back," The woman said tears dripping down her face. Although the young woman digging her long nails into her shoulders was in pain, so also was the elderly woman in pain.
She loves him just as much as this furious lady loves him so how could she not be in pain.
"What do you mean by he is gone? Where did he run off to? Tell me, because I am ready to go to the end of the earth just to find him," the lady said, her voice stern and cold. She knew the truth about his disappearance but she couldn't bring herself to accept the reality.
The reality was that she would never see, feel or kiss him again.
"He broke the law so he had to face punishments. You know what I mean," The elderly woman said trying to control her tears.
Despite the young lady's crimson red eyes and long fangs looking so terrifying, the elderly woman did not fret. It was as if she had seen this sight too often to get scared.
"He is never coming back so I advise you to forget him. You can't live your entire life waiting for someone who is never coming back," the elderly woman in a red maxi dress advised.
"He is never coming back. This is not possible. No, no…..," the lady who could not accept the fact that the man she loved was gone shouted as she raced out of the bright room at top speed.
Getting outside she tripped and fell on the grassy ground. Yelena's tears refused to stop flowing as she sat on the ground.
Her heart felt like it was repeatedly poked with a needle. Breathing was becoming difficult with each passing minute.
She loves him so much. She would not hesitate to give up her life to save him. Right now the pain that she would never hear him call her name or say how much he loves her felt like she was dying from within.
"Riley, how could you do this to me? How could you leave me after saving me? What's the point of being alive when you are not beside me? What's a life without you in it?" Yelena yelled, her tears continued to fall.
The elderly woman came out of the hut with the same white porcelain plated she entered the room with earlier.
She squats beside the sobbing lady. "He did not hesitate to sacrifice his life to save you. He wants nothing more than to see that bright smile on your face. Wherever he is, he wouldn't be happy to see you like this, so pull yourself together and drink this so you will regain your strength," The woman said as she stretched forth the porcelain cup containing blood.
Yelena stared at the contents of the cup with contempt.
"Aunt Caroline, how do you expect me to do that...,"
"You have to learn to do that. You need to learn to move on. Yelena, you need to learn to protect yourself because he will not be here to protect you again," Caroline said as she forced the cup into Yelena's hands.
The woman stood up, put her hand inside her big dress, bring out a black recorder and threw it on Yelena's lap. "He said I should pass that to you," Caroline turned and walked into the hut.
Yelena's tears gradually reduced as she stare at the recorder lying on her lap. She contemplated whether or not to play it for a few minutes. In the end, she played it because she was curious to know what it was about.
"I love you, Lena. From the first day I set my eyes on you, I have always felt a sense of attachment to you but I couldn't bring myself to say it. Being your best friend was one of the happiest moments in my life...," Yelena's tears fall afresh listening to the voice of the man she has secretly loved for five years. It was only six months ago she confessed her love to her best friend.
Their love lasted for such a short period.
"Becoming your lover was the most amazing thing that has ever happened to me. I love you so much that I wouldn't hesitate to go to hell and come back for your sake. I don't regret exchanging my life with that of the woman I love," Yelena paused the recorder. Her grip on her aching chest tightened. Listening to his voice, the pain becomes unbearable.
"That I am gone isn't your fault so never blame yourself for what happened. Instead of wailing and searching for me, live your life to the fullest. I am officially breaking up with you this instant. You are free to fall in love with another man and live happily ever after, that is my wish for you. Goodbye," Yelena's weeping intensify at the end of the recording. She kept on crying for over fifteen minutes.
She cleaned her eyes, "I don't believe that you would die just like that. And who says I will let you break up with me. I will find you. I will live healthily for as long as I can with the hope of reuniting with you. Even though I have to go to the ends of the earth, I swear I will find you wherever you were taken to," Yelena vouched as she gulped down the content of the cup with a squeezing face.
