Chereads / My Demonic Contract / Chapter 27 - Cleaning Up

Chapter 27 - Cleaning Up

"Save her!" Jayce yelled as he burst into the room.

"You're coming with us." The guards said as they grabbed Jayce from behind. Yet when they both tried to take him away, they couldn't move him.

Ms. Moore took off her glasses as she looked up at the door.

She had been doing paperwork all day making her cranky and her mood only worsened when someone barged into her room screaming.

But those feelings quickly disappeared as she saw Jayce covered in blood and holding a small girl in his arms.

"Go back to your post." Ms. Moorse said with authority.

"But Ms. Moore, this kid-" One of the guards tried to explain but was cut off.

"Don't make me repeat myself. Bring her here." Ms. Moore said as she put on her white coat and walked over to a hospital cot.

Jayce followed her instructions and laid the girl down on the cot. The guards had no choice but to follow her orders and return to the gate.

Ms. Moore extended her arms toward the girl as she cast a spell.

"Salutem Inspicere"

A white glow surrounded the girl and information on her condition entered Ms. Moore's mind. Her face darkened as she understood the situation the girl was in.

She canceled the spell making the white glow surrounding the girl disperse.

"Sana"

Green particles gathered around the girl, but instead of encasing her, the lights only touched certain parts of the girl's body.

Most of the green lights floated to the girl's head while the others went to other parts of her body.

The green lights embedded themselves into the cuts and bruises along her body, healing them. Once the minor wounds were done, the rest of the particles gathered around her head.

Jayce stayed quiet so as to not disturb her while she was working. After a few minutes, the expression on Ms. Moore's face relaxed.

"Is she going to live?" Jayce asked. He had returned to his normal apathetic attitude.

"Yes, she'll live. If you didn't bring her when you did or took her to another healer she wouldn't have made it." Ms. Moore responded without taking her eyes off the girl.

Hearing that she would make it put Jayce's mind at ease. Now that one problem was solved, another one came to mind.

He remembered the two bodies he had left in the alleyway after he ran with the girl.

'Maybe if I'm fast enough I can get there and clean it up before someone finds out.' Jayce thought as he tried to sneak out of the medical room.

"Before you leave Jayce, get a new pair of clothes. And when you get back, you will tell me what happened." Ms. Moore said, catching Jayce who was halfway out of the door.

Jayce hadn't realized that he had blood all over his chest and arms. The worst part was he couldn't tell if the blood was from the girl or the guys he dealt with in the alleyway.

Closing the door behind him, Jayce made his way back to his dorm room to take a quick shower and a new change of clothes.

Just to be safe, he threw the bloodied clothes into his inventory before going back into town.

Although he was in a rush to get back, he took his time and walked there. If someone had already found and reported the bodies it wouldn't matter how fast he got back there.

It would also be suspicious to see someone running to the crime scene which was at an obscure location.

The sun was beginning to set as Jayce made it back to the same alleyway. Luckily for him, it looked like no one had discovered the bodies yet.

Jayce walked up to the thin body and was about to throw it into his inventory when he noticed something.

On the arm of the corpse, there was a symbol of blood dripping down a sword that pierced a wolf ear, a cat ear, and an elf ear.

He hadn't been paying attention earlier since he was enraged but the symbol more than likely meant that he was in a gang of sorts.

To confirm his theory, Jayce looked at the muscular body's arm only to see that the same symbol was also on his arm.

This meant that there was an organization within town whose goal was to get rid of Others and the three he killed were a part of that organization.

Jayce's blood boiled just thinking that more people had the same mentality as the three he killed. But this meant that they would eventually figure out that three of their members were missing.

Not to waste any more time, he threw the two corpses into his inventory and gave the alleyway a quick check.

Although he had taken care of the bodies, there were still two large puddles of dried blood, and the pavement was destroyed in certain spots.

'A person with half a brain could tell someone died here.' Jayce sighed internally.

He couldn't clean the blood or repair the damage that had been done to the alleyway. All he could do was hope that no one could put him at the scene of the crime.

Making sure he didn't leave any evidence that indicated he was here, Jayce headed back to the Academy.

After Jayce left the alleyway, a man who wore only black walked out from the shadows. He examined the alleyway and saw the two corpses were missing.

The man was processing what he had witnessed and after a few minutes, he reached for the communication device that was on his chest.

Once Jayce made it to his dorm room the first thing he did was collapse onto his bed. He wasn't tired physically but more mentally.

Bartering with the dwarf and then saving the little girl had taken more of a toll on him than he had thought.

He was about to fall asleep when his stomach growled loudly. Thinking back to it, Jayce realized he hadn't eaten much of anything today.

Forcing himself to get out of bed, Jayce walked into the kitchen and opened the fridge.

Looking through the fridge, he was able to find some uneaten burritos. He was too tired and lazy to cook anything so he grabbed the burritos and popped them into the microwave.

While he was waiting for the burritos to heat up, Jayce opened his menu and clicked on the Quest tab. He then scrolled down to the quest that was labeled Evolve.

'The system gave me this quest but didn't tell me how to evolve, but I can think of a few ways I can evolve.' Jayce thought.

'The most obvious way would be when I reached the required level or reaching the required Synchro rate.' Jayce said internally as he went back to the Stats tab.

[Level: 7]

[Experience: 386/3,070]

Jayce was only level seven and was a distance away from leveling up.

The only way he knew of gaining experience was through either killing something, which would grant experience based on how strong it was or absorbing someone's life force which granted bonus experience but also killed the person.

Then there were the quests he would receive from the system. Usually, the quest would reward stat points or skills depending on the difficulty of the quest.

He could also obtain stat points when he would level up but that led back to getting experience points.

Another idea crossed his mind while he was thinking about the conditions.

'I hope I don't have to absorb someone's soul.' The Life Absorption skill let Jayce absorb a person's life force through physical contact, but it also lets him absorb a person's soul through sexual intercourse.

Jayce threw the idea out of his mind as he heard the microwave beep. Taking the steamy burritos out of the microwave, Jayce began to chow down.

Once he finished, he changed into more comfortable clothes and went to bed.

'I feel like I'm forgetting something.' Jayce thought he as fell asleep.
