Jayce was glad that he got a quest around eradicating but after reading it he realized it wasn't as straightforward as he thought.
The quest stated that he had to destroy the organization, killing them was just a bonus. Not only does he not have any information on them but he's expected to do it within nine days.
'I need to start investigating tomorrow if I want to complete the quest on time.' Jayce thought as he looked at Ashley.
He had promised to look after her for a few days while they looked for her family and he intended to keep that promise. Closing his eyes, Jayce was eventually able to fall asleep.
---
Just like every other morning, Jayce woke up early and went out for his morning run. Once he got back, he went ahead and made breakfast for himself and Ashley.
It was around seven as the morning light pierced through his living room windows.
Ashley came out of the bedroom after smelling breakfast. She rubbed her eyes and yawned as she made her way to Jayce and grabbed his hand.
Although Jayce still found it a little weird, he wasn't as bothered by it as before.
"I'll be heading into town after we eat. Do you want to stay here or are you coming with me?" Jayce asked as he turned off the stove and put the omelets onto plates.
He couldn't leave her here by herself and Yuko was busy investigating 'his' mess in the alleyway.
Ashley simply nodded as she took her plate and dragged Jayce with her to the dining table. Once they finished eating, Jayce cleaned up and left for the gate.
Today was Sunday, which meant it was Jayce's last day off until he would start attending class again.
This is the last chance he has to gather information on the group, it would become incredibly difficult for him later on if he couldn't find any valuable information.
Arriving at the gate, Jayce didn't see the guards but instead, students. Seeing the armbands, Jayce assumed that they were part of the student council.
As he tried to walk through the gate, he was quickly stopped by the two students.
"Sorry, but you can't go into town." One of the students said.
"I have permission from the Headmaster," Jayce responded as he pulled out his ID.
"Your permission has been revoked for the next few days, orders from Ms. Moore." The student stated once again.
"Fine." Jayce sneered as he stored his ID back into his satchel and stomped off.
'I should have known she wouldn't believe my story, she's even using Ashley to keep me here.' He finally figured out why she didn't suspect him or question anything about his story.
Letting him watch Ashley for the next few days wasn't for her sake but to keep his attention focused on her, to keep him confined inside the Academy.
"Jay?"
Jayce was snapped out of it as he looked down at Ashley. He had completely forgotten about her as he was lost deep in his thoughts.
Taking a few deep breaths, he was able to clear his head and think about the problem at hand.
"I'm fine," Jayce responded with a neutral expression. Now that his head was clear, he started to think about a way to get back into town.
'I can't force my way through and asking the Headmaster also isn't an option. I guess that leaves me with only one option.'
Jayce quickly walked to the other side of the campus, behind the sparring facility. The building was much larger than the castle wall as it was casting its shadow over the wall.
On his first day here, he went exploring for a couple of reasons, one of them being an escape route. How could he trust a group that threatened him to join or have his memory erased?
This spot was the most secluded area he could find and he didn't anyone to see what he was about to do.
"Get on my shoulders," Jayce said as he crouched down next to the wall. Ashley didn't say anything as she climbed up his back using the wall for support.
Once she was safely on his shoulders, Jayce pulled out his gauntlets from his satchel and put them on.
'I hope this works.' Jayce thought as he squatted while he activated his Synchro rate. Transferring all of it into his legs, he leaped off the ground.
The castle wall was around 15 meters in height yet he scaled less than half of it in one jump.
Ashley screamed as she hung on to Jayce for dear life, she didn't know what Jayce was going to do only that she was told to hold onto him.
"Was that a scream?"
"It came from around the sparring facility!"
With his enhanced hearing, Jayce could hear people running over to his location. Knowing that he didn't have much time, he focused all of his attention on climbing the wall.
As he reached the peak of his leap, Jayce swung his hands and dug his fingers into the wall.
Making sure his hands were secured into the wall, he kicked the wall to make a place for his feet. Once his feet were secured, he leaned down and jumped.
Traveling another meter up the wall, he dug his hands and feet back into the wall. Repeating the process, it took Jayce less than a minute to reach the top of the wall.
"This time, don't scream," Jayce said as he moved Ashley into his arms and stepped off the wall.
As they were falling, he embedded his hand into the castle wall. Their descent slowed as he dragged his hand down the wall.
When they got close to the ground, Jayce pulled his hand out of the wall and launched himself off the wall.
Jayce somersaulted as he hit the ground and sprinted into the closest alley.
"I think it came from back here!" One of the student council members said as he walked behind the sparring facility.
With the four other members following close behind him, they searched around to find whoever screamed.
But no matter where they looked, they couldn't find the source of the scream or anything suspicious.
Feeling a pebble hit his head, one of the students looked up but there was nothing there. The castle wall was fully intact and there was damage to be seen.
Not finding anything there, the group moved on to see if the scream came from somewhere else.
