"Can I go take a look?", she asked.
"It's quite unsafe now, Miss.", Replied Kyan politely.
"Okay", she said, her voice so soft it was barely loud enough to be had. Kyan looked at her briefly then went up. She followed behind and locked the door of the cellar. The other werewolf that came with them was a woman she arranged a set of comfortable camp beds for all of them and had already settled Chloe in. Ophelia thanked her and sat beside Chloe, the twins sat beside her quietly, no one said anything. Ophelia was shaken my this incident. From what she could observe, she knew that this kind of battles happen but she didn't know the frequency. Thinking of the ones who might have lost Thier lives in such occurrences, she was filled with compassion for them.
Beside her the twins were already dozing off but they were too stubborn to sleep. Lincoln held his mother's blanket tightly and Linnaeus her hand. She looked at the children and her heart ached. She stood up and paced about trying to calm her restless heart.
"mmmm", Chloe groaned. The twins sat up straight, Ophelia turned towards her; everyone of them gave her undivided attention. She turned on her side and continue sleeping. Linnaeus let out a sigh and patted his mum gently on her back.
Two hours later, Chloe groaned again. The female werewolf went closer to her, felt her pulse and inject something into her. My her side the twins were asleep, they were still holding their mother.
"How long will it take for the battle to be over?", Ophelia asked the female werewolf, her voice strained and shaky. As time went by, she became more anxious.
"I cannot determine that but it won't take that long anymore", replied the werewolf.
"And Nick, when is he going to return!", asked Ophelia.
"The king's whereabout cannot be determined by a subject like me, my lady"
"Damn the bastard, always leaving his lair and family! What the hell is he busy with!", yelled Ophelia wanting to knock down the things in the cellar but didn't because of the sleeping Chloe. She had never felt this much fear and anger before in her entire life. She looked at Chloe and restrained the tears that were threatening to fall moments ago. She didn't know what friendship meant until Chloe. She didn't know how she would feel it it was gone too soon. At the same time she hates her powerlessness. If she had enough strength, then she would have been able to stay with Chloe and she might not have been hurt.
There was a heavy knock on the door again. This time Ophelia was less cautious. She went to open it. The sound of fighting had seized and in it's place were low growls and moans making her stomach churn. She looked up to the a very familiar face. His eyes glowed red and eventhough the tried to repressor, his aura was still frightening. He looked so neat and proper that Ophelia had the illusion that he didn't participate in the war but his aura and the blood stain beside his browns stated the obvious. Right now Nicklaus was a war wolf. He looked down at the face etched in his mind. The face that replaced the darkness in his eyes every time he closed them, that ethereal, enchanting pale face; the unique and fascinating silver eyes that carried the world's mystery. His bunny, his woman. She looked dishevelled, stressed and paler. His poor bunny. Nicklaus held her closer and buried her in his arms, he nipped on her hair. She tried to push him, hit him but he didn't budge. This time, he would have his way. Since he wouldn't budge and she couldn't overpower him, she leaned in his arms and sobbed softly. She was feeling aggrieved.
"shhh shhh", coaxed Nicklaus which made her burst into tears. She cried loudly and became more aggressive, hitting Nicklaus harder.
With every strike she would say, "why didn't you come earlier"
"Why are you here now?"
"Why did you leave a pregnant woman in charge?"
"You are heartless"
"You damned idiot"
She ranted for a long time hitting Nicklaus until she couldn't raise her hands anymore. Nicklaus stood their and allowed his wife to mutilate him as much as she can. When he saw that she was too tired to continue, she checked her hands to see if she was hurt before hugging her to himself.
"I'm sorry", he whispered quietly.
They stood there for a long time, savouring in the moment. Nicklaus was quite happy about it. He wanted time to stop at this very moment. 'Was his bunny letting her guard down?' Until...
"You are choking me", whispered Ophelia. He let her go but still held her hands, making Ophelia blush.
"Your sister", said Ophelia as she made way for Nicklaus. He carried her instead and went down the small stairs. The cellar was big but not too high, so with him there, the place looked crowded; he was just too tall. He put Ophelia down on her temporary bed.
"Sleep", he commanded.
Within seconds, Ophelia slept off. He sighed. She must have been very tired. Adjacent her was his sister. He looked at her and felt a twitched in his cold heart, his elder sister had always been very strong bit she was a female after all.
Chloe's turned with difficulty. Although she couldn't see, she could still sense her brother's smell. That smell of cold charred wood was just too unique.
"It was a sneak attack. That brother of mine is still as presumptuous as before but I taught him a lesson this time", said Chloe.
"Hush now, sister. You have hurt yourself and your enemy. That's not good. Now how do I explain this to Derrick?", he sigh acting frustrated.
"I'm sure Derrick dares not challenge his alpha", retorted Chloe.
"I hope you're right"
"She's wrong this time Nick, I'm here to settle score with you", howled Derrick. His every step made the wooden staircase go rickety.
"Speak of the devil", Nicklaus mumbled.
"Wow betide you, Nicklaus if anything happens to my wife," yelled Derrick. Looking at his dishevelled wife with bandages on certain places. He grew angrier.
Ophelia was startled awake by a deep growl. She sat up abruptly only to see an angry Derrick and a somber Nicklaus. Behind them Chloe was struggling with the bed, trying to sit up. She quickly went to help Chloe lay down again. She comforted her and went to the two odd friends facing off. The site of them looked quite funny but she wasn't in the mood for a laugh. She went in-between them faced Nicklaus and yelled loudly.
"You arrogant prick! You cocky naughty fool! Do you consider anyone's feelings at? Turn around and look at your sister!", with that said she turned to the smaller man and gave him a pointed look.
Nicklaus carried his sister and put her back on the bed. He sat down quietly. His ears were drooping. He felt wronged. 'What does she mean by arrogant prick!', he could not reconcile with those words.
On the other hand, Derrick couldn't shake himself out of the Piercing look that Ophelia directed his way, even after she had left, he still felt her eyes were there at that same spot looking at him. He rubbed his neck, goosebumps crawled all over his skin. He was shaken. 'Is it because she's a Luna?', he wondered. 'Must be', concluded. He would not accept the fact that he was frightened by the frail little thing.
He went to comfort his wife. She must have fought hard.
