The memory weighs my mind that I can only look the wooden board that serves as our footing inside the wagon. Even though they probably don't mind such thing, I can't help but feel blood running to my cheeks whenever I turn to look at them.
I turn to Robin to ask for help, but as usual, her face is staring at the opening of the wagon. Silently watching the scenery of the night sky. Looking at her I realize that I am being childish of such things. Robin is mature, and doesn't mind the parents misunderstanding. That's right, I should be more like her.
Plus it's not like we'll see the family much often anyway.
Having calmed down, I look at the family and saw them whispering at each other. Right, this is a test to be mature. Thankfully the mask helps in concealing my expressions.
Soon after the wagon had to be stopped for the night and we have to camp somewhere. Having no camping supplies we only laid down on the grass hoping that no beast come while we sleep.
"I'll be keeping watch. Be at ease and get yourself a good night."
"Good night...", I said before I yawned and tucked myself with a blanket I bought. It's my first time to sleep outside, it wasn't exactly comfortable and the ground is dead cold but somehow it only takes one good look at the night sky and I get sleepy.
It was as if it only took a few minutes. I feel like opening my eyes again. Waking up, I find the sky now darker. The moon is about to fall down. My sleep felt short that I was craving for more, but I moved my body and sat up. Roaming my sight I found Robin sitting just across the road. She was looking mindlessly at the night sky while holding on to her spear like a cane.
"Good morning. I had a good sleep thanks to you."
"Morning."
Right, grumpy as expected. I guess even knights feel irritated after an all nighter. The sun hasn't come up yet and there's still enough time for Robin to take a nap.
"I'll be keeping watch for you this time. Feel free to take a nap.", I said while sitting beside her. Her expression looks dead tired, but her eyes remain sharp for any threats.
"No.", she briefly answered. She is stubborn alright.
"I see. Then I can't help you with that."
"Uh huh.", she only nodded meekly.
Right, this should be a good time to explain about yesterday.
"So...about yesterday. I know acted weird, right?"
"You could have pinned me down."
"I know, I'm sorry. But I just wanted to make sure. The attack I did to you was fairly...well, weak and it all seem too easy if I am going to be honest. Then next thing I thought I should do was to give you a scare, hoping that you would be able to move with sheer will. I apologize if I went overboard."
"That's not it."
Wait I did something more?
I thought to myself as my mind suddenly closes. No thoughts processed properly in my mind and I try to search my memories but I find nothing.
"Never mind--", Robin muttered before she yawned. I wait for her to continue, but I feel her weight pressing on to my shoulder. I turn to look and see her back laying on me.
She should be tired. I guess I'll lent my shoulders for a bit. Although, she's also laying her head on my head. At this point we'll be lying on the ground eventually.
Gently I moved back and guided her fall onto my lap. Her face looks peaceful when she sleep, unlike her intimidating expression that she always has on her face. I'll let her nap for a bit.
The dark skies start to turn to blue and then orange when the sun comes up. I feel the morning breeze brush on my face. The rustle of grass serves to relax my mind and I feel like I'm at ease. The sides of my face feels rather stiff from the mask and the urge to remove it grows, but of course I can't exactly do that given that any moment anybody would wake up.
We were like that even when the family woke up and prepared for their morning. My stomach was grumbling, unable to make a move to our supplies in the wagon. It was only after the driver was all prepared to continue our travel that I woke her up.
"Hey, Robin...? Let's get you to the wagon.", I whispered. I figured she wouldn't respond if I called her by Ingrid. Soon, she opened her eyes slightly.
"I--err? I fell asleep huh. No wonder it feels comforting. Thank you."
Her face was dazzling as she smiles to me softly. It's as if I am looking at a Prince, not that I met any. No wait, I guess this is just the charms of a knight. But Chart...
"That's no problem, you can rely on me for next time. However, I think we need to move.", I answered in kind.
The two of us then hopped in the wagon and the driver told us that he would start moving. The family were giggling and I was able to chat with them for a bit. Mostly were romance stories that they've had, but their kid would chime in and tell me of fairy tales. Sometimes I would chat with Robin, but she would sometimes immediately end it with a brief answer.
The trip took two nights before we arrived at the town. It was rather underwhelming compared to the one we came from, but it was similar to mine and it made me feel nostalgic of my home. It's been days since I travelled away from the town. A lot has happened considering my usual routine when I was cooped in the town.
The skies remain clear and undisturbed as we enter the town. Unsurprisingly, I have to do my trick once again to answer the guards. They believed my act, but the guards seem tense and in high alert. Actually, it may be not just the guards. Wandering around, I can feel the vigilant stares of passerbys and the heavy air around the town. The skies have become clouded.
