Chapter 23 - Chapter 21: A strange job

"Let Robin go, Lucina.", I ask of her, reaching my hand to her. The chains' presence weigh on my hand as it manifests.

Lucina only shrugged her shoulders and crossed her ams at my warning. Uncaring of what would may happen.

"Calm down, Thane. I had a lot of fun here, but I'm not going to spoil myself. In fact, I'm just about done. I just wanted to see you, but I can't let this woman see me.", she said while pointing at Robin.

"She's the knight, right?"

"Nope, she isn't it. She's just a mercenary I met."

"Oh c'mon, Thane. I know. I also know you're being searched all around the human kingdom."

Tsk, guess I can't lie to her huh.

"How did you find out?"

"Wanted posters. In addition, we succubus have our ways. Just like you have yours. Aww Thane, stop being hostile will you?"

"Sorry, can't have that. Especially when you've been preying on men."

When I answered her with that, she pouted for a moment before her smirk returns.

"How was it? I told you this kind of battles is just to my liking. Direct engagements aren't my thing at all."

"What are your intentions? Surely you didn't just want to fool around."

"That, and yes, I had work to be done. The Abyssal King told me to make noise around these parts."

"Kyaaa--!! A...a demon! Get the guards!"

One shriek caught our attention. I looked behind where the sound came from and saw a man fallen to the ground, his basket filled with his groceries laying with the mess of fruits and vegetables.

"Perfect timing. Guess I'll be bringing her back to you."

Lucina grabbed Robin by her neck and throws her to me. Her giant build falls to me as I try my best to catch her. I rooted my foot to the ground as I embrace her fall. It wasn't easy, of course, but I managed to lift her up.

"Shouldn't you be flying away by now?"

"From just a mere group of guards? No. They're all just men, simple heart twisting words should suffice. I want them to see me."

Why is it important for them to alert the kingdoms further? The attacks should atleast be enough!

"Lucina, you know this will only lead up to powerful warriors stepping up. Why is the Abyssal King doing this?"

"Precisely. That's just what we want. And you all have no choice but to play this game, or else more lives will be lost."

I hear rowdy footsteps approaching. That must be the guards. Soon I was able to see them coming close after turning around the corner. I looked back to Lucina who seemed to happily expect the arrival of the guards.

We can't get involved with this. Slowly, I pulled Robin's weight on my back and retreated.

"Lu...cina?", I hear her say under her breath, but she was still asleep. She must've heard it but had little strength to keep herself awake.

In a moment, I see Lucina's curvy body flying past with her giant wings and the guards can only look up in awe, unable to do anything.

The evening came and my stomach rumbled loudly in the night. Robin hasn't woke up yet, but her breathing is there. I tried looking into it with my spiritual eyes but I can only tell that the bonds are repairing itself. I don't know what to do, as a necromancer perhaps my expertise only comes into separating the bonds but not connect it. The church would have speed up the process, but I can't exactly bring her there.

"Thane! I...There you are.", Robin suddenly sat up in panic, she was sweating hard and breathing deeply. Reassured after she saw my presence, she laid her back on the bed once again.

"How long was I out?"

"The sun has fallen down, so it must've been half a day."

"Sorry. You should've got something to eat for yourself."

"Can't do. I don't want to leave you alone."

After all that happened. I'm afraid it'll happen again. We can't give ourselves chances.

"I-is that so? Huh? That's reasonable, I think. I'll just have a change of clothes. Let's eat after that."

"Sure, I'll be just at the door."

"Thanks. It won't be long."

I went out of the room and waited just outside the door. I have a lot to think about, but now that Robin is awake, that's one less to worry on.

First off, what is the Abyssal King planning? Calling forces from around Terra is tantamount to suicide. There is no way his troops would survive an army of talent fighters and mages. It just doesn't make sense. In addition, I haven't heard of any village or town falling from their attack. Is he reserving strength to have an all out battle and wipe off the entirety of Terra's talents?

Let's just drop this off. We can't do anything if we can't face high ranking officials. There's no credibility in our name, I doubt they would listen. Secondly, I doubt Lucina is going to stop at just one town. She did say "around these parts", she must've been planning to attack others. I have to talk to Robin about this.

If we follow her now, would we even be able to stop her? She's way faster with her flight than with our feet. She might be on the next town the moment we step our foot to another. Plus the budget...we can't afford to follow her for straight days and wagons only come at specific days. We'll have to go there by our feet.

"Kept you waiting?"

Robin came out of the door, dressed up in her new clothes. She seems to have freshen herself up with a wet towel.

"Nope, let's go eat. I'm getting quite hungry."

For now, let's drop these worries and get myself filled. It's been quite an eventful day. I'll have Robin think about it too later.
