Chapter 46 - Day 46: Runic energy (IV)

"As you already know, there are eight elements that prevail in our world and these have been the same ever, this has been known thanks to the stories of the ancient ages and it is practically undeniable. The world, being governed by runic energy, to maintain order among all existing elements, created the guardians in charge of protecting their balance, to this day only the names of four of them have survived and it is undeniable because the world has witnessed the presence of each one, and their names have passed through the generations. These have been known as the elder dragons and each one is the protector of one of the four specific continents."

'Elder dragons...' Blake was caught up in the explanation, and the following would remain deep within him.

"The guardian of fire and protector of the Raidu continent: Firesome; The guardian of the earth and protector of the Uruz continent: Terrable; The guardian of the wind and protector of the Gebu continent: Ventuswill; And the guardian of the water and protector of the Laguz continent: Aquaticus." Every word and sentence entered Blake's head and stayed right there, he was surprised that he didn't really forget all that once it entered his head at the same time that everything he discovered made him wonder why he didn't remember any of those things.

"They are...?"

"Exactly, they are what we know as gods and the reason why the runes are called the language of the gods is that the only one of the guardians who has communicated with the "mortals", is Ventuswill and the way what it did is through the runes, thanks to that it is well known that we are not able to truly understand what the runes are or their true meaning... But we are getting off the point, with all the above you should already make one idea of how magic actually works." And with that said, it seemed like it was Blake's turn to speak.

"I… I think I understand. Magic is not something without foundations that appears out of nowhere, everything has its basis and explanation thanks to runic energy. Runic energy, in addition to being present within all of us and in the world, is as if it were something alive, it has its own characteristics and with them, the various elements that we know are formed, basically, if runic energy did not exist, magic itself would not do it either and everything we know would be totally different.

"Clap! Clap!"

"Bravo, boy, if I had a little star I would stick it on your forehead right now, you impress me."

"But..."

"You wonder how this really affects spells, right?"

"Yes."

"Well, magic and spells go back to the oldest era we know of, the era of disconnection. In that era, it was common to see masters who could control both spells of unimaginable levels and runic abilities that could destroy entire kingdoms, many of those abilities were lost and others survived to this day. At present, almost anyone can learn basic spells that don't use too much runic energy or strong concentrations of runes to cast, for example, the cure or teleport spell, but it's hard for anyone to try or even learn higher level spells, you know why?"

"Because of the amount of runic energy that each one possesses."

"Exactly, not everyone possesses the same raw talent as others, plus if you never seriously try to learn magic or have a teacher to guide you, your runic energy levels will remain the same making it impossible for you to master more powerful spells compared to common ones…" And following the very words that Marjorie was about to say, Blake was beginning to understand.

"Because if someone with a low amount of runic energy learns a high-level spell and tries to use it..."

"You create a lot of pressure in your mind, plus what happens when you spend all your runic energy?" That question was a simple one, and Blake was quick to answer it.

"You spend your life energy... Doesn't that make it nearly impossible to control high-level spells?"

"Not exactly, have you already forgotten what made me so surprised?"

"My talent..."

"Exactly, talent is what separates geniuses from ordinary people since they are born, but not only talent is decided at that moment, but also the amount of runic energy that each person can possess and develop. Normally it would take an ordinary person a whole week to learn a basic spell, and for so-called geniuses, it would be a day at least, but you, you just read it and the next moment you could cast it."

"Hehe... So I guess it's kind of awesome."

"That you just said would make even the wizard saint in the capital spit blood. That reminds me, even though ordinary people can use spells, only some can be called wizards or witches and in them, some levels differ depending on the level of the spell they can cast and the runes that represent each one. Spells range from One-rune spells to Six-rune spells and the names that wizards and witches are called depends on these levels, for example, One-rune wizard, Two-rune wizard; the same goes for witches."

"Hmm... And what level is that wizard saint?"

"The term "saint" is given to wizards or witches capable of reaching the level of a Six-rune wizard or witch, of course, it is more than deserved, the number of Six-rune wizards and witches that exist at the moment is as low as the possibility of finding a needle in a haystack…" Marjorie had to take a long breath after that, and she seemed genuinely pleased to see that Blake hadn't been distracted at all. "So, boy, are you satisfied with all this?"

"I'm more than grateful, I don't even know how I could pay it back."

"Hehe, I know how you could do it." Blake had a lot of questions in his mind, everything he just learned made him realize that the world he was in was anything but ordinary, his knowledge about magic was over to expand to a completely different level thanks to the personal conference that Marjorie gave him, he really wanted to thank her in some way for everything, but just as those words came out of her, Blake knew what she meant and was thinking of another plan to avoid that conversation, but what she said next left Blake with a huge shocked face. "Let me be your master and make you a Six-rune wizard."

"Huh?"

[Progress... Saved.]
