Chapter 49 - Day 49: Elemental affinity (III)

After letting out his frustration and threatening the threads that didn't seem smart enough to understand Blake, he turned his attention to the cyan thread that wasn't more than thirty feet away from him.

"No thread has shown the slightest affinity with me, I only hope this last one is the right one." And like the previous times, Blake inched closer to the last thread as he waited for any danger and felt the flow of the element around him realizing which one it was. "This is... Space... So far, I haven't felt anything strange, does that mean my elemental affinity is space?"

But as an answer to that question, what we all knew would happen happened. Just when Blake was only a meter away from reaching the thread, pressure began to exert itself on him continuously, he realized that at that moment, but it was too late, the pressure was too strong, and several breaks in space were happening around him trying to absorb it.

Blake knew that this was the end of him, but like the previous times, it seemed that the thread of space did not have the objective of killing him either, it only exerted teleportation and Blake appeared several kilometers from the thread.

"Pant... Pant... Pant... Even space hates me, every element enjoyed tormenting me until I was half dead and then throwing me away!" And after several gasps on his part, Blake again let out the frustration he felt and hurled several insults at the threads as he slowly tried to calm down... And after a while, he was done with his threats. "I failed each one... Does this mean I don't have a specific affinity?"

And now, Blake felt disappointed, if he really didn't have an affinity towards some element, he didn't know how Marjorie would feel about him. Even though he tried each thread, it was obvious that each element began to repel him the closer he got to them, this was enough for him to realize that he truly did not possess a high affinity to any of them.

"Sigh... I'd better find my way out of here..." But he couldn't finish what he was about to say as he discovered something really strange. "Huh, what is that?"

In the distance, Blake saw a strange figure floating, he had a feeling that he couldn't contain it at that moment and he approached as fast as he could ignoring everything else, and once he was close enough to the strange object, he could see what exactly was it.

It was a simple thread, unlike the others that seemed endless and full of vitality, this one was floating in a single place far away from the entire main space, its size was only the length of an arm and if one were to watch it carefully, you could see how it seemed that it would disintegrate at any moment.

All these characteristics were enough to see how strange this thread was compared to the others, but the first thing that caught Blake's attention was not the aforementioned, but the color that the thread possessed.

"It is gray?" Just by seeing it, one could realize that it was a simple gray thread with nothing special, but that made Blake feel strange, it was something he couldn't understand, Marjorie had told him that there are only eight elements in the world and each one was characterized by a different color, and he himself had checked it with all the previous threads, tested each of the eight elements, so seeing that gray thread was too disconcerting.

After a while of seeing that mysterious thread, Blake felt a special sensation every time he was closer to it, he didn't know when or why, but little by little he came until he was only a few steps away from touching it. Right at that moment, Blake closed his eyes and unconsciously took a meditative posture while that thread that seemed to be in the last moments of his life roared with unprecedented vitality forming an area where everything seemed to stop and, as if it were to a response to that, all the other threads seemed to recoil as if afraid of what was about to happen.

That phenomenon did not end there, as if an ancient beast had woken up from a deep sleep, the entire space began to tremble, all the elements entered a chaotic state trying to maintain their shape and place, and the strange thread gave the sensation of a powerful emperor while the other threads could only kneel before it.

All of this was happening while Blake was in a blank state. Although he did not know it, his entire being was absorbing the energy that created that gray thread and it was completely combined with him, if someone had been at that moment, they could see how with the passing of the seconds, Blake's figure was changing.

Only a second passed but it seemed that he had aged 20 years, he no longer saw the same figure of a 17-year-old but that of a taller man with sharper features, even though the view was how much less curious, it was not possible to appreciate since at one point that figure had changed again and now in its place, you could see the shape of an older man, some wrinkles had appeared on his face and some white locks were combined with his abundant golden hair but despite that, anyone could tell that he conveyed the feeling of an imposing being in that place while it was obvious that this would not be the end.
