Chapter 3 - The Door Mechanics

After she got the Guild Card, she decided to try and open the entrance door. Unlike awhile ago, this time it opens without any resistance.

Just by seeing that, William felt relieved. His gambit has paid off.

'I am just spouting nonsense at that time, but it really opens after she joins me!'

He is happy, but also curious at the same time. His eyes glances at the mysterious door that appeared on the corner.

'Where did this door came from? How can Kiryo connect here?' He thought in wonder.

While he is deep in thought, Kiryo has already gone outside and is now on the paved roads of this residence.

William's base is small. It is not even a two story building. In it's surrounding are a bunch of houses lined up neatly, and some people can be seen walking or entering some houses, with some carrying bags of groceries with their arms.

This is not the main road, but a residential road that only people can pass through. No carriage can pass by the narrow area, so most people are not scared of walking on the paved roads.

Looking above, she saw some planets. Some of them are large and the others are small, with some of them having rings that surrounds them. These planets are just a vague outline that can be seen on the horizon or above, with the sun shining normally at them. She also saw some floating landmasses that makes her neutral face gape her jaws.

Kiryo is surprised, not knowing how did this become possible. She goes back to the guild and looks at him.

"What's with that? Are those projections?"

William is snapped out of his thought and looks at her, trying to process what she says. After finally getting his bearings, he answered. His smile returning once again to make it seem like he is confident.

"Surprised? Well, that's another world for you!"

"Another world?"

"Yes. This is the other world." He pauses. "We're on the Bastion Kingdom. It is also known as the Last Nation." He added.

He only learned this on his stay here. This nation seems to be the last civilization of humankind. Every cities, towns, and village outside of the capital are owned by the Royal Palace, and the stronger guilds out there.

The border out of this nation seems to be protected by a strange barrier. They call the barrier out of this nation as the Zenith. The border between civilization and the unknown horizon.

Kiryo looks dumbfounded, having learned that she is in another world. She didn't thought that the mysterious door on her room will suddenly connect on something magical like this.

".... Is that so?" She said with a slow nod of her head. "Then, I'll be leaving for now. I have to tell this to the Central Section Operatives."

He knows that. The Central Section Operatives is literally the central government of the School City. It is where the City President and many of the important characters, like the MC himself, resides.

'Oh crap! What if they suddenly raid my guild and decides to cause chaos here!? The game have depicted most of the character as battle junkies!' He thought in a panic.

Without regards to his feelings, Kiryo goes back to the mysterious door and passes through it. The door slowly closing as she left him on his own.

~~o~~

It only took a few hours of him brooding on the corner, and dreading her return when he almost jumps in surprise at the door slowly opening.

Standing up straight, he looks at the door that is slowly being pulled. He is trying to turn back his composure and not letting the other party to show his true feelings.

"... Ms. Kiryo? Why are you back? Where are the others?"

He is surprised when he only saw Kiryo emerging on the door. No one seems to be following her. He looks behind the door and see the ethereal image of her room.

There is something there other than her room. It is the a vague outline of some people within that room.

Kiryo just stares at him before gesturing for him to wait. Then she enters back to the ethereal room, and the door slowly closes. After awhile, the door opens to see her entering this place again before she goes back once again.

This repeated until she finally came back after a few moments of delay. Her eyes looking at him with a frown.

"What is this place?"

"Huh? What?"

"It seems like I am the only one who can passed through here. The people along with me can't see it, and even Sensei can't make heads or tails how I can enter this place. They only see me as passing through the walls."

His eyes widened at the new discovery. He quickly manages to understand base on her explanations.

"... Have you tried using tablet and connect to them while you are here?"

She nodded. "I can't connect to them even with that." She added with a frown on her face.

'I see... so it seems like she is the only one who can enter this place. How did that happen?'

The door seems to have specifically chosen her to get to this world, though it is curious how it did that.

Is there some sort of special requirement? Maybe she have something that made it possible?

He didn't know. There is nothing special to Kiryo. She is just good at combat. She didn't have a powerful magic, or some sort of mysterious past. He knows because he have completed every story on Insertia.

So maybe it is on him? Maybe he have something within him that makes this all possible?

Or maybe the door itself is sentient and can choose whoever it wants to enter it?

Regardless, he shelves that thought out of the way for now. He have to ask her more about this.

By asking her, he learned that she have tried many experiments in her own initiation, and also some guide from this "Sensei" person. He already have an inkling whoever is this "Sensei".

She have tried dragging one of her friends and go to the door together, though it seems like after entering here, her hands grabbing the arms of the other just passes through, making it so only her can enter this place. She also tried using a yarn and let the other hold it as she enters the door. After entering, the yarn is still connected to her so she tries to take all of it, though it seems like only the yarn managed to get inside along with her and the one holding it on the other side still didn't manage to get in.

There are many more, and everything produce the same results. Only objects that she holds or possessed can pass along with her while every living being, even robots, can't get inside.

This confirmation is important. This tells him a lot of things about the door.

'Whoever the door chooses, they are the only one who can get into my guild! Those who manage to enter but didn't join my guild won't be able to go outside and is stuck here!'

It is a very convenient setup. It basically felt like the door itself is giving him members that he can recruit. These members are even characters from one of his favorite games!

'This is amazing! I just have to be good at persuading them, then I'll have OP members!' His eyes alighted in excitement.

Then his musing has been interrupted with a flash. He felt his eyes stings a bit at the sudden bright light.

"What the hell!?"

He rubs his eyes and tries to focus on the girl, who seems to be holding her futuristic tablet and is pointing it at him.

"I'm sorry, but I need to take your picture so Sensei can ID you."

He felt a bit miffed at the sudden breach of privacy, but he quickly manages to understand where she is coming from.

"Okay fine... but please ask for my permission first next time you do it."

She just nodded before turning her back.

"I will be leaving for now. The high executives seems to have become interested after this strange incident, so I will be busy for awhile."

Those words makes his spine tingle, his hair rising due to the implications.

'Good thing the door only lets her come through! I don't want to face Administrative Officer, or even the higher executives!'

He would prefer it if it's the "Sensei" himself who comes through. The guy is the MC of the game, and the face of all players itself. He is a decent guy, and seems to be smart in strategy as portrayed on the game.

The other high executives are just plain scary. He is sure he will be in grave danger if one of them just get a sniff of his presence. Mostly for the fact that it seems like the existence of the door implies that he is the one who is doing it.

"Okay. Good luck."

That's the only thing he can say to her.

The girl nodded at him before leaving the place using the mysterious door. As the door closes, he heaves a sigh of relief.

"Phew... this day is too eventful for me. I think I have to rest for now." He heard a grumble in his stomach. "After I am done having some bite."

With that, he passes the whole day just eating, and brooding about the whole door thing.
