Chapter 29 - Victory!

The timer hit zero, and both of them ran towards each other.

Once within five meters distance, Yama raised his right hand, and seeing this, Verum confirmed his next actions to be duck, roll, and then jump.

Yama punched out, when Verum ducked, he kicked, Verum rolled, and he swung his right arm backwards, and Verum jumped backwards.

Verum's thoughts were in a bit of disarray, but he recovered and started thinking again.

'Speed is faster than expected, will need to use true observance to keep up in combat, dash, enhance, boost, needed for evasive maneuvers. Should use sparingly.'

While Verum planned out his next moves, Yama was shocked, he did not think that Verum would evade his attacks so easily. 'What did I expect? He managed to clear a level 50 dungeon while his level was not even a third of it, I should be more careful.'

Verum lunged at Yama, sword in a stabbing motion, which caused Yama to move sideways, but a smirk appeared on Verum's space, as if he had expected it. Suddenly, he slammed his foot down, and twisted towards his opponent, swinging his sword in a wide arc, as if he wanted to chop off Yama's torso.

"Shit!" Yama exclaimed, and hastily moved back, but still got slightly nicked by the blade. Verum did not give him chance to regain his balance, and jumped at him with his sword raised, intending to slash down on his shoulder. Yama quickly jumped backwards, then rushed forwards to hit Verum, but Verum quickly dodged and used dash to gain some distance.

Yama: 'Damn, I was too careless, I don't have healing magic, so I cannot go on like this, otherwise, the cumulating damage will result in my downfall, that hit took out 13 HP!'

Verum: 'Response time faster than expected, Does not seem to possess lower types of healing, preliminary attack successful.'

After a moment of staring down each other, Verum moved again, this time he threw a fireball, quickly followed by ice spike, which was hidden by the fireball.

'Fireball? It won't work against me.' Yama thought, as he swung his fist, making it compress and shoot out the air in front of it. The air struck the fireball, causing it to dissipate easily, but the ice spikes behind it caused Yama to panic. 'It was a cover! Damn it!' He quickly took a deep breath, and suddenly breathed out a huge gust of air, which made the spikes go flying away. 'Shit! if this goes on, I will lose! I need to take the offensive.'

Yama started running towards Verum, who reciprocated by raising his blade, and then holding it horizontally, blade pointing towards the ground, and both hands holding the grip. When Yama punched, he parried with his blade, then pushing the fist to the side, retaliated wit ha forward swing, which was intercepted by the other hand.

Now holding the sword tightly in his hand, Yama tried to attack again, but was forced to let go and retreat when fire started gushing towards him, however, he was not able to escape unscathed as his arm was on fire, and even though he quickly doused it using water magic, it still did a bit of damage.

[HP: 178/220]

They were again staring at each other when Verum opened his mouth and spoke.

"It was nice to play around, but unfortunately for you, I will be ending this now."

Yama did not take offense to this, but instead put his guard up to the maximum before replying.

"Then let us continue."

*****

Yama's POV.

I knew he wasn't joking when he said he was going to end this, I could see it in his eyes, he had a trump card, and I did not know what it was. So, I raised my awareness to the peak, I knew he could use magic, but would he? Or was his trump card related to his sword?

He started walking towards me, and I put my fists in front of me, preparing to either take it head on, or to evade.

He swung out his sword, and it got enveloped in a black aura, at this point, he was eight meters from me, so I waited for him to get close before making my move.

Seven meters, He started to move faster.

Six meters, he erupted with speed, and I reached out my arm to use the spell 'Wall' to intercept him, but suddenly, I froze.

There was a blade sticking out of my chest.

And before I could register it, Verum closed the gap, and swung his sword.

*****

"How?" I asked him. And he just gave me a smile.

"Tell me, please?" He chuckled, and then started speaking.

Verum POV.

His guard is raised now, and all his attention will be 'me', perfect.

I had gotten quite a few new abilities from my eye powers, and one of them, was perfect for sneak attacks. This one was from 'The Path of the Trickster'.

[Phantom] [Lv:1]

[Am I here? Or am I there? Or maybe everywhere?]

[This skill allows the user to create a phantom image of themselves which will dissipate after five seconds, in this duration, the phantom can be used to attack, or distract. Most attacks will just phase through the phantom, rendering it's defensive ability to zero. The more mana is poured into it, the stronger it's attack, and the better it's ability to deceive.]

[Cost: Varies]

[Cooldown: 1 minute]

I poured 100 MP into the clone, and immediately used Shadow Flash to teleport behind Yama, Then waited for my phantom to acquire his complete attention.

When Yama started moving, I used Black Fang, and stabbed Yama through his heart, and he froze, most probably due to shock, and using this time frame, the phantom lobbed off his head, attaining a sure kill.

"And that's how I killed you." I said.

"Damn, I have to say, even though I didn't mean to underestimate you, I still did. But hey, Tell me something?" Yama, with an expectant gaze said.

"Yeah?" "Will you train me in fighting?"

...

I could have sworn that he had stars in his eyes at this point.

"Why?" I enquired.

"You have to an expert right? There's no way all those movements were just luck, and even if they were, you managed to get behind me without making any noise at at all! Please teach me!" He was on his knees now, and I was just kept looking at this weird man-child.
