Kaspar and Sofie Brenner were alpha and Luna of the cold moon pack. Their pack was situated near a city at the base of a mountain. There were several small towns near there, so they looked like any other small town. The ever-green pack was their closest neighbors, they were bigger and about an hour away. Alpha Kaspar and Alpha Duncan were friends and allies, but Kaspar made it clear the cold moon pack was their own pack. They kept their traditions and rituals and received no protection, only a piece of paper. A treaty to remain allies until the end of their reign as alpha.
Kaspar and Sofie had their twins Benjamin and Blair under the cold moon, in December of 1995. Which kept in line with their rituals. When they turned eighteen Ben would have his alpha ceremony and take over at the beginning of the new year as their alphas did. The twins were one when the doctor realized they were a rare form of twins, semi-identical boy and girl. Tests were done to confirm their DNA was in fact identical, minus the fact that Blair was a girl. No one could explain it, but the elders of the cold moon pack whispered in secret what this could mean.
By the time the twins were five, elder Wallace had to put the concerns to the feet of alpha Kaspar. He was nervous as he knocked on the alpha's office door at the pack house. "Come in," Kaspar called from inside the office. Elder Wallace walked into large room, the walls lined with bookshelves, all full of copies and some original archives. Alpha Kaspar sat at his ornate wood desk, "Ah elder Wallace, what can I do for you?" Kaspar asked happily. "Pardon my intrusion alpha, but I need to speak with you," elder Wallace told him. Kasper nodded and held out his hand offering a seat in one of the lavish navy blue leather seats in front of his desk. "What is it?" Kasper questioned, his expression growing with concern. "The twins, were they conceived under the black moon?" Wallace asked. Kaspar was taken aback, "I'm not sure, I don't always pay attention to every moon cycle," Kaspar answered. It was true, while they knew when the full moon, the wolf moon, the blood moon, and even the super moons, the black moon was a phase not many paid attentions to. It wasn't always visible, and the cycles were not on a regular basis.
Usually occurred every 32 months and wasn't typically celebrated by the werewolves. "I was afraid of this," elder Wallace spoke frankly his eyes searching the floor for his next words. "What's going on, Wallace?" Kaspar asked seeing the worry on his face. "I believe Ben and Blair to be a distich bond, which has only happened twice in the last hundred years. If they were conceived under the black moon, they are in trouble," elder Wallace warned. "What kind of trouble?" Kaspar pushed. "One of them will be possessed," he answered. "What do you mean possessed?" Kaspar questioned, his brow furrowed, and he was now leaning his chest against his desk, his eyes burrowing into Wallace. "It's the curse of the Winston Witch, one of them will be possessed by the demon of Lana's lover John, who will seek out the last Winston Witch to transfer the power of the distich to her and conceive another abomination, to rule pack and coven," elder Wallace explained.
Kaspar sat back in his chair, rubbing a hand across his mouth briefly, "And you think this will happen to Ben?" Kaspar asked skeptical. "Or Blair," Wallace corrected. Kaspar looked at his desk for a beat, thinking of what to do next. "I'm sorry to bring this to you, but the elders have been wondering what to do about this, since their birth," Wallace began. "What do you mean, what to do?" Kaspar interrupted him. Wallace looked up, as Kaspar stood. "Do you think I'm just going to kill my children?" Kaspar question, anger arising in him. His bright blue eyes still burrowing into the old man. "No, alpha I didn't mean," Wallace defended. "Then what do you think I should do?" Kaspar asked. "Forgive me Alpha, but if Benjamin is the possessed, it will be up to Blair to fight and become a true Alpha," Elder Wallace quietly explained fearing, the Alpha's wrath. "And if Blair is the possessed?" Kaspar asked. "Benjamin will have to banish or kill her," Elder Wallace hesitantly answered. Kaspar stared at him, that thought of either of his children being banished or killed was a hard concept to think about.
The silence was too much for Elder Wallace, "I'm sorry to bring this news to you, I'll leave you to think about this," he said bowing as he stood. "Elder Wallace," Alpha Kaspar called as Wallace turned the doorknob. Wallace turned, "Say nothing of this to anyone else. I don't want a stigma attached to my children. When the time comes, we will take care of this," Alpha Kaspar ordered. Wallace nodded his head in agreement and walked out, leaving the alpha with the devastating news that one of his children could be possessed. A demon possession of a werewolf was very rare indeed, but not all together impossible. The Winston coven were an original coven and very respected. Kaspar remembered hearing the tale in his youth, but no one had made mention about the details of the curse.
Kaspar took a deep breath and let it out before getting up and heading to the kitchen, he needed to see his children. He stood by the doorway, watching the twins color at the table in the kitchen. He stared at the small children; their black hair shiny in the sunlight coming through the sliding glass doors. He couldn't stand the thought of one of them being evil or dangerous. He also couldn't picture his babies fighting for Alpha. Blair's blue and green eyes peered up at him, "Daddy?" her little voice called from the table. He smiled, "Yes, darling?" he asked. "Come look at my picture," she said happily. Kaspar walked over, "Oh that's very good, Blair," he told her looking over her shoulder. She turned her head to the side, "What's wrong," she asked. "Nothing," he assured as he looked over at Ben coloring a picture of the woods. He couldn't help but look at them differently and he wondered if he could see it now in one of them. For a moment Kaspar thought of telling Sofie, but he didn't want her to see them the way he now did, with complete suspicion. He had plenty of time to tell her, before their alpha ceremony.
