Chapter 7 - On the Topic of Time

Time, it's the one thing that no one in this world can get enough of. Unfortunately, it is also the thing that slips from our grasp the easiest.

Oh how I yearn for younger years, for the freedom of days long since past. It seems like but a few days ago when I might have been frolicking with other children in the yard, enjoying my childhood bliss, and yet now here I am, locked behind a desk, sitting more than 8 hours a day typing my life away.

And still times passes ever faster, as the time relative to how long we've been alive decreases, it just feels like a year gets shorter and shorter as we live longer and longer. Despite this, the dwindling light of life is not the scariest thing about the passage of time, the most fearsome thing is how time wrenches us apart from those we care about. The greatest people we have met often cannot remain by our sides forever, for they have far greater things to pursue in life than our company. Time may also wither away those close to us, drawing their lives in this realm of mortals to an unwilling close. In the blink of an eye, our greatest mentors may become but fragile fading memories, our greatest friends may lie before us on their deathbeds, heralding heartbreaking goodbyes, and perhaps we ourselves may find our lives at their respective ends.

Nothing stands the sands of time. The most heinous crimes, the most brilliant minds, and the most prominent civilizations will all be washed away eventually. For this reason, it is imperative that we treasure the time we have and those that withstand this current time with us. Feel the time around you, and seize it to its greatest potential. Only in this way may you leave with little regrets when your time comes.
