Chapter Forty Six: Murder
After a long night of fighting, Clementine finally managed to kill all the bandits, but AJ wasn't among them. Clementine got into a car and drove off."
A few months had gone by, and Clementine's 13th birthday had come and gone. A string of unfortunate events had left her stranded in Virginia."
Clementine spotted a passing truck and launched an ambush. The truck veered off the road and crashed.
As the truck came to a crashing halt, a man quickly jumped out. Clementine wasted no time, holding a gun to his head and demanding that he hand over the keys."
Clementine: "Hand over the keys, asshole, and anything you have to eat."
Unknown man: "My name isn't asshole; it's Javi, and the keys are in the truck."
Clementine pointed the gun and warned the man. "If you move an inch, you're dead."
Javi: "Please, my family is in danger; I need to save them."
Clementine: "If I help you, what will you give me?"
Javi: "Food and fuel."
Clementine: "We have a deal then."
Clementine added, "You drive."
Javi nodded, saying, "Sure thing."
As Javi took the driver's seat, Clementine kept a close eye on him, her grip on the gun steady.
The engine roared to life, and they sped away from the crash site.
Clementine couldn't help but feel a mix of caution and curiosity about the man named Javi.
They drove in silence for a while until Javi finally spoke up.
Javi: "I appreciate you not leaving me back there. My family means everything to me, and I didn't know what else to do.
Clementine: "We all have our reasons to survive in this world."
A few hours later Clementine and Javi finally reached the gas station.
javi family welcome him back with hugs and kisses.
Kate: Who is this young lady?
Javi: "This is Clementine.
Clementine: Hello it's nice to meet you guys.
javi: Let's get inside.
The group huddled inside the gas station, grateful for the shelter it provided. They started to discuss their plans, how to secure supplies, and where to go next when suddenly, the tranquility was shattered by the sound of gunfire.
The group scrambled for cover as bullets ripped through the gas station's windows and walls. It was a group of armed men outside, firing indiscriminately at them.
Clementine: "Get down! Stay low!"
They could hear the taunts and demands from the attackers.
Attacker 1: "Surrender, and maybe we'll let you live!"
Attacker 2: "We want your supplies!"
Javi's family cowered in fear, and Clementine knew they had to act fast. She gestured to Javi.
Clementine: "We need to fight back or find another way out. We can't let them take us down like this."
Javi, though scared for his family, nodded in agreement.
Clementine: "We need to get to the van."
Javi, still worried about the risks, asked, "I know, but how will we do that?"
Clementine's voice was resolute, "All we have to do is run to the van."
Javi quickly explained the plan to his family, who shared concerned glances.
Clementine: "Okay, on three, we run."
Clementine: "One."
Javi glanced outside, and a bullet narrowly missed him.
Javi: "Fuck."
Clementine: "Two."
Kate, Javi's sister-in-law, hesitated, asking, "Are you guys sure about this?"
Clementine: "Three."
With that, Clementine dashed towards the van, shielding her head with her hands. She slid on the ground and reached the van safely.
Kate and Gabe followed, making it to the truck unscathed.
Clementine urgently called to Javi, "Javi, hurry!"
Javi and Mari sprinted towards the truck. However, tragedy struck when Mari's music player fell, and a bullet struck her in the head.
Javi screamed in anguish, tears in his eyes, but Clementine urged him to keep moving.
Clementine: "Javi, we've got to go."
Reluctantly, Javi tore his gaze away from Mari's lifeless body and hurried into the van.
As they drove away, Kate and Gabe looked back at Mari's body, tears streaming down their faces, as the harsh reality of their world sank in.
Clementine spoke softly, trying to comfort the grieving group.
Clementine: "Sorry, but we've got to go."
Javi, still shaken by the recent events, asked, "Where are we going?"
Clementine: Prescott.
Javi: What's Prescott?
Clementine: It's a safe camp for survivors.
Kate hugged Gabe tightly as he continued to cry over the loss of his sister.
Clementine glanced at Gabe through the rearview mirror.
Clementine: "I know how it feels. I've also lost everyone I love."
Javi, surprised, said, "I never knew."
Clementine revealed, "Well, I still have one person left, but he's been kidnapped, and I'm going to find him."
Javi asked, concerned, "Do you know who kidnapped him?"
Clementine nodded grimly, "Yes, they call themselves the New Frontiers."
