Chapter Forty-Eight: Death always takes one

Clementine: "We have a few bandages, but that's all we have."

The man shook his head and introduced himself, "My name is Tommy, and this is Gabriel."

Javi greeted them, saying, "It's a pleasure to meet you."

"Let's take our injured friend to our van," Clementine said.

"Okay," Tommy replied.

As the group headed back to the van, they were suddenly ambushed by a small herd of walkers. Javi and Gabriel rushed to the safety of the van, while Clementine and Tommy bravely stayed behind to fend off the approaching walkers. However, their luck took a turn for the worse when a mutated walker attacked Tommy, injuring his arm with a jagged piece of iron. In pain, Tommy cried out.

Clementine hurried to Tommy's side, asking him if he was okay. Just then, both of them noticed an unfamiliar shadow lurking nearby. The mutated walker let out a chilling cry, attracting even more walkers to their location.

"No, no, no," Tommy exclaimed. Clementine and Tommy made a dash for the van and jumped inside.

"Go, go, go!" Tommy said, and Javi slammed his foot on the gas pedal, speeding the van away from the herd of walkers

suddenly Javi slammed on the brakes to avoid the unexpected car in front of them, he exclaimed, "What the hell was that?"

Just when they thought things couldn't get any stranger, the ground beneath them began to shake. A horrifying sight unfolded as a mutated walker, resembling a serpent, emerged from the ground, its appearance sending shivers down their spines.

Gabi's voice trembled as he asked, "What the hell is that, Uncle Javi?"

Javi, equally bewildered and alarmed, responded, "I don't know, and I don't want to find out."

Clementine took charge of the situation, telling Javi to move over. With a sense of urgency, she shifted the gear into reverse and skillfully backed away from the terrifying mutated walker.

Clementine: We are fuck.

Javi: Don't say that.

Clementine: Okay we're dead if that thing catches us.

As Clementine skillfully reversed the van, the mutated walker launched an attack, sending the vehicle crashing into the surrounding trees.

As Clementine skillfully reversed the van, the mutated walker launched an attack, propelling the vehicle into the surrounding trees.

The collision left everyone dazed and disoriented. When Clementine's senses returned, she spotted a herd of walkers closing in on them.

Clementine desperately tried to open the van door, but Tommy took swift action. He kicked out the back window, helping the others to escape the van.

"Let's go," Clementine urged, as they fled into the forest, attempting to escape the relentless walkers.

Eleanor stumbled over a rock and fell, she screams out in pain, Clementine heard the scream and rushed to her aid, but it was too late; a mutated walker had already appeared and ripped her head off of her body.

Clementine trembled as she witnessed the brutality.

Clementine sprinted away, putting distance between herself and the gruesome scene. After a few minutes, she finally caught up with the others.

"We need to find a safe place,"Tommy emphasized.

"And where is that safe place?" Kate asked.

"Anywhere but here," Tommy replied.

As they ventured deeper into the woods, they stumbled upon a cabin.

"Nice find," Tommy said, a smile gracing his face.

Clementine took charge, saying, "Javi, you and Tommy should check the surroundings. I'll check the front."

Tommy agreed, "Good idea. Let's go, Javi."

Clementine knocked on the front door to see if there was anyone or anything inside, while Tommy and Javi scouted the area around the cabin. After confirming it was clear, they returned to Clementine.

Javi reported, "Not one walker around."

Tommy added, "Or animals."

Clementine nodded in relief, "Good."

They entered the cabin, and Kate and Gabi carefully settled Gabriel on the sofa to rest. Clementine proceeded to search the kitchen for food, her eyes widening with excitement as she opened a cabinet filled with canned goods.

Tommy and Javi joined her in the kitchen to see what she had found.

As a few hours passed, Javi used some of the canned food to cook up a hearty stew for their group. They gathered around the makeshift table and shared their stories of survival while enjoying the meal.

Tommy's gaze fell on Clementine, and he couldn't help but ask, "How about you? You seem too young to have made it this far on your own."

Clementine took a deep breath before responding, "There was this guy."

Javi inquired, "What guy?"

"His name was Lee," Clementine explained.

Tommy's face showed concern, "Was? So, he's dead?"

Clementine nodded solemnly. "He saved me when I was just a little girl, and he protected me until his last breath."

Javi expressed his sympathy, saying, "I'm sorry for your loss, Clementine."

Kate asked the difficult question, "How did he die?"

Clementine's voice trembled as she replied, "He got bit while trying to save me. His last words to me were, 'I love you, Clem.'"

Tears welled up in Clementine's eyes as she remembered that painful moment.

Clementine got up from the table and quietly made her way into one of the rooms, closing the door behind her. The rest of the group sat in somber silence, hearing Clementine's sobs from behind the closed door, understanding the weight of her grief.
