Chapter 13 - Intuition

Not wanting anyone to be a burden and cause a delay in their journey, these people had even abandoned the woman. What was most despicable was how they even took her belongings, then so callously left her lying in the grass of the wilderness.

If she hadn't chanced upon the woman, wouldn't her corpse have been left exposed to the wilderness, or even become dismembered? That would have been too tragic.

Qin Yiling shook her head to herself. To them, this had nothing to do with her. Even though they were horribly heartless and selfish, it was not her place to criticize them.

People die for wealth, and birds die for food.

Well, these people could forget about taking any advantage of her.

Qin Yiling closed her eyes to take a nap but didn't dare to sleep too soundly, so she could only rest her eyes to recharge. She couldn't care less about their arguments; they could squabble all they wanted.

The next day, everyone in the dilapidated temple started rustling about as soon as there was daylight. After making do with a few bites of dry rations, they started packing their luggage and preparing to set off.

"Brother Zhang, how long will it take for us to reach An Le Town?" a woman asked one of the strong men.

This group of theirs consisted mostly of defenseless women and elderly people, but thankfully, they had these three strong, tall young chaps with them on this journey. Although they were a little lean, their tall stature and stern looks could at least scare off some of those who were up to no good.

This, coupled with the number of people in their group, had saved them from a lot of trouble and danger along the way. At the very least, they didn't seem like easy targets to thieves and robbers.

The man who was addressed as Brother Zhang estimated the distance of their journey and answered, "We should be able to reach around evening time."

"Finally, it seems like we're almost there."

Another woman sighed and lamented about the lack of peace in the world in recent times, and that no one dared to go out alone anymore. They could only travel together, and even so, they were still fraught with worry and fear on the journey.

A middle-aged man urged, "Let's hurry up and set off now, so that we can reach An Le Town sooner."

Qin Yiling, who had long been awake, had been sitting calmly without moving from her spot. However, when she heard the mention of An Le Town, she was a little surprised.

Initially, she had planned to find her prospective partner first before delivering the letter. She did not expect that An Le Town was just up ahead. That woman had managed to travel all the way here from who-knew-where, yet just as she was about to reach her destination, she had fallen sick and passed away.

How tragic.

Nevertheless, Qin Yiling felt that since she had already promised that woman, she had to keep her promise. Since An Le Town was right around the corner, she would send the letter first, as a way of fulfilling the woman's wish.

Right now, she only hoped that that prospective partner of hers was safe and sound, and that the scene in her nightmares had yet to happen.

Actually, she had a vague feeling that the person she was looking for was right around the corner. As long as she kept moving forward, she would be able to find him. Even when she had been faced with the dilemma yesterday, she had also safely followed her instincts.

She had always been intuitive, since a young age. To be precise, perhaps she just had exceptional luck. Ever since she was young, when faced with all kinds of choices or decisions to make, she never once made a bad one.

Qin Yiling dawdled around until everyone left the dilapidated temple, then packed up hurriedly.

First, she rubbed some ashes on her face to make it dirty. Then, she took out a kerchief and wrapped it around her head to cover a part of her face.

She could already tell that if she continued looking clean and tidy like before, she would be too conspicuous even if she walked among the group.

Although she was capable of protecting herself, she didn't want to attract unnecessary trouble.
