Qin Yiling then started eating her own compressed biscuits, minding her own business and looking indifferent. She couldn't be bothered to deal with irrelevant people, as that would just be a waste of her energy.
Meanwhile, the mother of the bratty child had pushed the young lady beside her–who was about 17 or 18 years old–and scolded in a low voice, "Stupid girl, why aren't you going over to get the biscuit for your brother? So stupid!"
The young lady turned and pouted unhappily, but did not dare to retort. She could only swallow her indignation and follow her mother's orders obediently.
However, before she even reached the old woman and her grandson, she had stopped walking as she was startled. She stared with wide-eyed astonishment at the young woman sitting beside the two of them.
Although Qin Yiling had been eating, she had still been paying attention to her surroundings. It was also hard for her to be oblivious when that spoiled brat was making such a scene. So, she had caught sight of the young lady walking towards them. Most importantly, she was walking over with empty hands.
Qin Yiling scoffed. Why were there always such brainless people in the world? And yet these were the same people who thought of everyone else as fools.
Never liking to waste her breath, she just pulled out her Swiss Army knife and looked at the girl with a smile. She tossed the knife up gently and caught it steadily, then continued playing with it like that repeatedly.
She seemed to be having fun, completely unafraid that its blade might cut her hand. But while she was tossing and twirling the knife without fear, others trembled when they watched her.
Anyone with a discerning eye could tell that the knife was incomparably sharp. On top of that, a young lady fiddling with a knife so casually without any expression was clearly not someone to be trifled with.
Either she had some kind of martial arts skills or she was a reckless and ruthless person who didn't care about consequences. No matter which type, she was someone whom they, mere ordinary folk, did not dare to provoke.
Therefore, even though they were very tempted by the food in her hands, and were even getting a little restless about it, they ultimately didn't dare to challenge her.
However, while the members of the original, smaller group might have put away their little schemes, that didn't include the other group which had just gathered today.
One look at the pair–with their elderly limbs and little body–and it was obvious that they were easy targets to bully. Nobody took them seriously at all. These were people who had fled from the neighboring counties, and after experiencing so many ups and downs, food was now the most important thing in their eyes.
"Stupid girl, what are you doing!" The middle-aged woman shouted with confidence, "She's just a little girl putting on a show and acting tough to intimidate others, what's there to be afraid of!" She didn't believe that Qin Yiling would really resort to force and start a fight.
The young lady hesitated to continue forward. At first, she hadn't been afraid, as she had already been tasked with confronting others several times along this journey. With the backing of four elder brothers in the group, she had become bolder.
However, when she saw Qin Yiling's smile, she felt an inexplicable chilling sensation, causing her hairs to stand on end.
Forget it, this woman was not to be trifled with. A wise person picked their battles wisely!
"Ugh, look at how scared you are! Good-for-nothing! As expected, you're just a burden…" Upon seeing her daughter's timid look, the middle-aged woman was so angry that she cursed and swore.
"Alright, Mother, stop scolding her. It's not a big deal, you shouldn't let the anger hurt your health."
A man who looked to be in his twenties stood up impatiently and patted his pants pretentiously. His body was clearly covered in mud and dust, and his clothes were so tattered, yet he still bothered to act concerned about his appearance. Who was he even pretending for?
