Chapter 11 - A World of Famine?

Qin Yiling leaned her back against the broken wall, her tensed body loosening up. Alas, now that she felt relaxed, she also felt hungry.

She opened her suitcase, fished out a pack of compressed biscuits and started munching on it. Thankfully, she had thought to pack a few bags of compressed biscuits, a box of dark chocolate, and a bottle of glucose water.

These were all foods that helped replenish energy quickly. She had already known the rules of the 'Time Tunnel' beforehand so she did not bring much food, as she had estimated to take only about two days to find the person she was looking for.

If it took a longer time than she had estimated, then she would make do with whatever she could get locally or sell her jewelry for money.

"Grr, grr, grr~"

Suddenly, there was the loud sound of a stomach rumbling, which had sounded all the more distinct in this quiet, dilapidated temple.

Qin Yiling stopped eating her biscuits. Before she could even feel sheepish, several more stomachs started rumbling loudly.

Well, this was awkward.

She glanced up slightly and saw that everyone in the room was staring at her with keen, piercing eyes. No, actually, they were looking at the biscuits in her hands.

What was going on? Couldn't they let her eat a biscuit in peace?

Did they have to look at her like that? She was merely eating some biscuits. Could it be that she had arrived in a world of famine?

Ever since she had time-traveled to this world, the people she had met all looked like refugees. She didn't know whether this was an impoverished world to begin with, or if this geographic area she was in just happened to be very poor.

She was anxious to know everything about this world, but now was not a suitable time.

They were a group while she was alone. Sure, she could rely on her fighting skills to overpower them, but if she were to act rashly and ask them questions that seemed like simple common sense to everyone, wouldn't that give them something to hold over her head? She would be telling them directly that she was a strange one!

Unless, she killed them all, as the dead would leave no problems behind. But she wasn't a cold-hearted killer, and she simply didn't have the habit of killing people off casually.

If she wanted to gather information, she had to approach them one-to-one in private and it had to seem natural. She couldn't let others realize that she knew nothing.

She quickly sorted out her thoughts as she slowly took out her Swiss Army knife and played with it casually.

With its seal removed, the entire blade of the Swiss Army knife gleamed. The edge of the knife was razor-sharp, and it was obvious that this was no ordinary knife.

Everyone looked away instantly, a few timid ones even tucking their necks in and lowering their heads. They no longer dared to stare at her, deathly afraid that the sharp knife would be stabbed into their eyes the very next second.

A few men were also shocked by Qin Yiling's unexpected action. They didn't think that a petite and well-mannered lady like her could play with such a sharp dagger so casually.

Such behavior did not match her appearance at all, so they were taken aback. It seemed that this young lady was not simple.

When Qin Yiling noticed that the crowd had stopped staring at her, her mouth curled into a slight smirk as she continued to eat her biscuits and drink her glucose water. Although she was not a cold, heartless person who killed the innocent recklessly, she was no Mother Teresa either.

Her rations were limited. Even if she gave them out, it wouldn't be enough, so it might even cause public anger. Their fiery gazes when staring at her biscuits were enough to show how strong of a temptation food was to them.
