"Okay what is it?", I asked Victor who was seated in front of me. He has been neglecting the burger he ordered and instead has been looking curiously over my shoulder for the past seven minutes.
He quickly dragged his eyes from behind me to look me in the eye, "Okay Julian, don't look now but that girl you like is staring daggers at you".
As if on instinct I whirl my head around and they immediately lock unto Delilah's. Her eyes are narrowed at our table or more specifically, me.
Weirdly I had thought that Victor was referring to Ariadne.
Just that moment Victor decides to kick me in the shin, and I yelp and turn around to glare at him.
"What the hell dude?", I yelled gaining the attention of some people close to our table.
"I told you not to look", he shook his head at me and I could just about imagine him wondering why I'm such an idiot in his mind.
"What is wrong with you two?", Celeste asks from my side.
I ignore her.
"Was that really necessary?", I asked rubbing my shin underneath the table.
Victor was about to retort with some smart ass reply when his eyes suddenly widened and he looked down at his food.
"Oh no! She's coming over here", Victor looked away awkwardly.
I stiffened in my seat as a wave of panic took over my body. Victor my bodyguard of nearly two years seems the least interested in helping me and Jason is busy avoiding Celeste who's shooting questions at him like a hand rifle.
There was a light tap on my shoulder and my eyes quickly divert to Victor who's in front of me. He quickly looks away from my gaze, but I still notice the hint of a smirk on his face.
I bet he's enjoying this!
Slowly I turn around and I'm not surprised when I'm met by dazzling blue eyes. Her facial muscles have relaxed from the glare that was there only a minute ago and she's now smiling widely at me instead, even though I can tell that it is forced.
"Delilah hey!", I clear my throat. For some reason I get the urge to stand up so I do just that.
"Hi Ferd, I didn't know you were back", she widens her smile and pulls me into a hug that I wasn't expecting so I end up awkwardly patting her back. I try to pull away first but she holds unto me for a second longer than any friendly hug should last.
I don't want to be weird so I tentatively place my arms around her waist but when I look over her shoulder I see Ariadne staring at us with wide eyes. There is some unrecognizable emotions playing in her features but before I can map them out she turns and walks out of the building with huge strides and Mario hot on her trail.
Someone cleared their throat beside me and Delilah and I pull away from each other. I hadn't realized that we had been holding each other for so long.
"Uh Ju- I mean Ferdinand who is this?", Celeste manages to say politely but her possessive undertone goes unnoticed by no one.
For some reason I felt like I was in so much trouble right now.
"Celeste this is Delilah and Delilah this is Celeste", both girls nod at each other not saying anything.
"Who is she Ferd?", Delilah asks sounding more hurt rather than upset.
"His girlfriend!", Celeste chimes in and I could feel Delilah's body stiffen next to mine.
"Ex-girlfriend", I correct, "we haven't seen each other in years. Celeste I already told you to stop telling people that".
Delilah visibly relaxes a little now and she smiles up at me with a new found happiness as Celeste glares at us both.
"Oh so you're that Delilah huh?", She crossed her arms across her chest. "The one that's been dating J-Ferdinand".
I don't even have time to panic over the fact that she's almost slipped up my real name twice since we've been here since I'm too busy panicking over something else. I'd forgotten about back in France when I'd told Celeste I didn't intend for us to restart our relationship and she had demanded to know why. I had lied and told her that I already had a girlfriend and when she'd asked me her name, Delilah's was the first name I blurted out.
"That's right", Delilah surprised me by saying as she held my hand and wove her fingers through mine, "Ferd and I are dating. Right Ferd?".
That's the moment my bodyguards decide to give me the time of day and while one of them is clearly smirking the other one looks completely taken aback.
Clearing my throat, I look back to Celeste and somehow manage to smile, "That's right. Delilah and I are dating".
