I fell asleep after everyone left. I later learnt though, that Victor and Jason never really left as they were both just outside the room guarding my door, which was odd but made me feel safe so I brushed the thought away as I was whisked away by sleep.
"Is he okay?", A familiar voice asks from somewhere in the room in what feels like only minutes later.
I groan as I open my eyes and stare at Victor and Dr. Patrick who is talking to someone else.
"He's waking up", Victor motions to me successfully ending their conversation. The third guy immediately turns to face me and when I see his face a broad smile spreads into my face.
"Dad you're here?", My voice sounds a bit croaky and not as enthusiastic as I was trying to sound.
"Easy kid", dad chucked but the smile doesn't reach his eyes. "How are you feeling?".
The doctor hands me a glass of water and I sit up in bed to drink it before turning to my father to answer his question.
"I'm feeling much better now, the headache's not so badly anymore".
He nods but looks back at the doctor.
"I'm going to go and have a chat with Doctor Patrick outside he says, and I can hear his English accent as he pronounces his words. He looked over at Victor and told him to stay with me.
"So, you ditched the French accent huh?", Victor smirked at me.
I looked at him quizzically, "I've been busy learning the American accent ever since I came to this country, since a French accent could've raised unnecessary questions about my origins".
"You were using it earlier though, which is weird. Because even though you were born in France you grew up in England so shouldn't you have an English accent like your dad?".
I opened my mouth to answer him before he cut me off.
"Wait back track", he stood up abruptly from where he'd sitting down on the couch in my hospital room, "you remember trying to get rid of your French accent?".
What is this idiot talking about? Of course, I remember.
"Duh!", I roll my eyes, "that was like only a year ago."
The smile slowly slide off his face as if I'd said something wrong and I can only draw my brows in confusion at his reaction.
"Julian, how old are you?".
My eyes widened almost instinctively at the sound of my real name.
"What the hell Vic!", I whisper yelled, "don't just use my real name like that someone could hear you".
He seemed taken aback from my little outburst but the look he gives me is as if I'm supposed to know something that I don't.
"It's fine", he coaxes.
I shake my head at his stupidity.
It's not fine. Dad still hadn't told me why he sent me to the US in such a hurry yet, even though it's been a year.
Laying back fully on the bed I regard Victor with a calm look.
"Where's the other bodyguard?".
All he says is, "Outside".
The room got silent, and I began to look around me for my phone, but it was nowhere that I could see.
Every time I try to remember anything from the accident or even before the accident I get so confused and all my thoughts seem to jumble together. What I need is a distraction.
"Dude where's my phone?".
"Do you remember anything about your accident?", He asks me instead of answering.
I shook my head no and he just leaned awkwardly against his chair.
"I just remember what you guys told me about it earlier that's all", I continued.
He paused as if hesitating to say what was on his mind, "I'm not sure how you'll feel about this, but Lewis was the one who pushed you. Lewis Levi, Mario's brother. Your phone got damaged when you fell".
Lewis!
That didn't make sense, why would Lewis push me?
I decided to voice my thoughts, "Why would Lewis push me though, Victor? He and I are friends".
Victor's eyes widened a bit before they narrowed back at me as if trying to figure something out.
"How old are you Solace?", He asks next.
What does my age have to do with anything?
"Fifteen why?", I replied.
He face palms and groans into his hand as if I'd just told him that all Fall Out Boy concert tickets were sold out and we'll have to wait till next year.
"Do you remember the doctor telling you, you had temporary amnesia?", He doesn't wait for me to answer, "well it looks like you got back some of your memories but you're still missing a year".
What?
"A year", I shouted.
He snorted, "Obviously, if you think you and Lewis Levi are friends then you definitely have amnesia".
"Lewis is like my only friend in gym Victor".
"You don't take gym anymore".
"Really?".
"Yeah I'm in half of your classes and the other bodyguard is in the other half and none of them is gym".
"Hydel you mean?", His back stiffened at the mention of her name.
But why? Since she is my other bodyguard.
"Not Hydel, Solace don't you remember Jason the blonde weird dude that was in here earlier".
I nodded; I remember them telling me that when I'd just woken up.
"Where is Hydel though, isn't she still my bodyguard?".
His expression hardened at the mention of her name just as it had before. Something was going on and it was weird. I guess I feel clueless because I can't remember anything from the past year.
But that still left me with questions.
Why wasn't Hydel my bodyguard anymore?
Why weren't Lewis and I friends anymore?
Why would he push me?
Somehow I had a feeling that Victor wasn't going to answer any of my questions.
