Chapter 2 - 1. Beginnings

Aurora's POV

Here we are again, new town, new school new mission. Let's start with my name it's Aurora. I live with my sister Lola, my cousins Ethan and Ella twins, and the thier dad my Uncle Ryan.

My parents and Ethan and Ella's mom died 8 years ago and my sister and I moved in with my Uncle Ryan and his kids. My parents were officially killed in a robbery gone wrong, the person who killed them was never found by the authorities. In reality my parents and my aunt June were assassinated by a group called The Goodie Group.

The Goodie Group officially is a Christian church (more like cult), have churches all over the country and are growing in popularity. The higher ups in the church are radicals of the worst kind. They know there is more out there than just the belief in God and Lucifer. They know about the angels and demons that come to earth, and about us, my family, what we are and what we do.

My family and other families like ours are keepers of the gates, both to heaven and to hell. We do not let people (or anything else) in to the gates or out of the gates unless it is agreed upon by both God above and Lucifer below. We are neutral and that makes us targets for both sides, but we also have allies on both sides. There are four families that were originally chosen by God and Satan jointly, we are the decadence of two of those families. My mom and Ethan and Ella's mom were twin sisters, and my dad and there dad were also brothers, the four of them grew up together and when they became adults they raised us four together as well.

Flashback

8 years ago we lived in a small town in Maine our parents guarded a heavenly gate. Then Gavin  Goodie Bowman the founder of The Goodie Group moved to town he had knowledge of the gates, how we still don't know. He befriended our parents under the pretenses that he was an alley to the cause, another neutral like us. He wasn't, but he had so much knowledge about spells and keepers powers he seemed legit.

Timeout:

Let me explain a bit about keepers. You see twins are the ears, they hear the word one from the haven one from hell. Even they do not know which twin hears the voice from which place. Some keepers like me can see true selves kinda like oras but more so than that I can see the difference between demons and angles were others can not, my Uncle Ryan shares this gift with me, Usually those of us with this gift become leaders of our small group of keepers. Others like Lola have great spell casting powers, while we all know an incantation or two, keepers with a power like Lola and our father study and hone the craft of spells. And we all follow the rules: number one protect the gate, number two never let anyone or anything in or out unless both sides agree.  Seems simple but it isn't always. We follow the rules or we die literally, angels and demons will be sent to find you and kill you. Some keeper families think they can let something's out and not get caught, I have never heard of anyone not getting caught. Now call me a stickler for the rules but it just doesn't seem worth it.

That is not what happened to our family. My parents and Aunt where killed by that Gavin Goodie-Bowman and his whacky cult of follows.

They were ambushed after refusing to let an angle named Akriel back into heaven. Gavin felt that Akriel could help with his wife's infertility problems. God and Lucifer both agreed not to let Akriel though the gate. Gavin did not believe that God would not help him, and he blamed our parents, called them devil worshipers.

The night of the ambush it was Uncle Ryan's turn to stay with us, Lola was 7 and I was 9 and the twins were 8 so we were still too young to be left alone unless there is a major emergency, which this was not. That night they came for us too. Only minutes after our parents had died, my cousin Ethan heard a voice.

"Get out now." Even though he was only 8 years old he knew, Ethan looked at his father and said, "We have to go, NOW."

Without hesitation my Uncle rushed us through the secret escape in the basement. I can remember staring down the long dark tunnel and wanting to go back, not wanting to know what lay on the other side of this tunnel. As my Uncle Ryan closed the secret door behind him shutting us in the tunnel, we could hear the front door crashing and heavy boots ponding on the floor above us. Uncle Ryan turned on his flashlight and said, "Hold hands."

We did, and off we went down the tunnel. It seemed like forever and the tunnel seemed so small, but I kept looking at My uncle who is not a small man move swiftly in this small space and I knew we could do it. In the dim light I looked at my hand holding onto my sister, and then to her hand holding our cousin Ella. Then as I glanced back at Ethan his face was so solemn and at first I didn't know why, then it hit me just as we reached the end of the tunnel.

Our parents must have known this could happen because as we came out of the tunnel I could see a truck with the bed packed full and a moving trailer already hitched to the back.

"Get in." that's all Uncle Ryan said, he didn't need to say more we already knew, this was all the family we had left.

Aurora's POV

So here we are eight years later. Ethan, Ella, Lola and I standing in front of our yet another new school, its the fourth one in two years. As I look around it looks much the same as the others. We always end up in small towns with small schools, we are always the new kids, and we don't ever get too close to anyone. We just do our jobs and stay as long as we are needed.

"Let's go girls" Ethan said propelling our family forward. As we walked people stared, that was pretty normal new kids small school, but also Ethan was a 6'2" muscle bound hunk that looked like he just came from the beach, with gleaming blue eyes and dirty blonde hair, I'm not being creepy it's just true. He was not what I   would think people are used to seeing in most high schools, except maybe high schools on tv.

We had done some Intel on the school so even though it was our first day we already know where we are going. We head to the office to get our schedules; Lola is 15 and I am 17 so we likely won't have any classes together. The twins are 16 and as always the school will more than likely put the twins in as few classes as possible together. Although Ethan and Ella are like geniuses and make great grades, unlike me who is just barley going to graduate at all. I don't really see the point, with what we do, what our family does; well let's just say some things you can't learn in a standard high school setting.

As we get our schedules, I noticed a boy staring at us. He looks almost angry, with a scowl pressed on his lips. Even through a scowl I could see bright green eyes. I pushed my family into motion knowing how boys always react to Ella and Lola, and how protective Ethan is for that matter, so I know putting me in his line of vision will stop the staring. That's just fact; boys don't stare at me and usually even if they think I am pretty enough to talk to they quickly decide I am to blunt and uncaring; these are things I have been told before, on dates even, the few I've been on.

"I wonder who the new girls are." I asked my best friend and brother Matt as he rounded the corner. I had been standing leaned agents the lockers when I had noticed them, all very pretty, but that one, the one who caught me staring and rushed the others away, then turned back with a what he could only guess was supposed to be a mean look, to him that look said sexy and dangerous, he should probably "not" know more about this girl, with bright purple streaks through her brown hair. With ripped jeans and a black t-shirt, making her purple hair, and amber eyes stand out all the more.

"Why don't you ask them, it's obvious you really want to know?" Matt teased trying to propel me forward.

"I'm not really interested, I was just asking." I practically yelled, punching Matt in the arm, and then I headed off, in the same direction as that girl.

Aurora's POV

As I headed to my first class I glanced behind me and noticed that boy again. He looked like trouble, his lip was pierced on the left side and his hair stood straight up but looked lacking in product I would think one would need to keep his  platinum hair standing up, and really how old was he, should he even be in school, or is he like a super senior. He beat out Ethan in height and like Ethan he looked like he was strait out of a movie or tv show, he was muscled, maybe 6' 4" or just under and I might even see some tattoos poking out of his fitting shirt .

OMG had I just been standing and staring. He was right in front of me, and going to, crap the same class. I turned and as quickly as possible went into the class room heading straight to the teacher to hand over papers as always for the new student. That boy, who I had locked in my peripherals, went straight to the back of the class. That's strange the other students seem to regarded him as if he was poison slightly recoiling when he walked by, they all seemed to keep there eyes on him but visibly moved there body's away from him.

"Great, my name is Mrs. Taylor, welcome," she said as she looked at my name, and snapped me out of my observation"Aurora, can you just have a seat right here." She gestured to a desk that sat to the far left of the class, but it sat right in the front. Wow I hate sitting in the front, but at least I am far away from him, just thinking about him made me glance over. Dam it I cursed myself for even glancing, and what made it worse is that he is totally caught me looking at him. Wait, does that mean he was looking at me too.

"Class," Mrs. Taylor spoke, "this is Aurora, and today is her first day." I only heard blah blah blah blah same old story. Then class started, I think this is English or Short Stories or something like that, who cares anyway.

Next class same routine, and then next class yet again that boy, god is he in all my classes. In this class the kids regarded him much the same in every class, recoiling slightly when he is near them. This teacher, I think his name is Mr. Scoll, or Mr. Skull or something, said to the boy

"Peter while it is nice to finally see you in my class this is not the class you are supposed to be in."

"So." The boy, who I now know name is Peter, says

"So get out." Mr. whatever said. The class snickered.

That's so weird why would this boy Peter be in a class he wasn't even supposed to be in. Peter rose out of the desk he was occupying, again at the back of the class, he looked right at me, it gave me chills, and he just looked so angry like I was offending him, what's his problem.

After class I headed out down the hall I knew my next class would be the last one before lunch so I can check on how the day was going with my family. As I looked down the hall Peter was following me. I rounded the nearest corner.

The bell rang, finally maybe now I could get away from Peter. I grabbed Ella
