It wasn't just new battlesuits being created but also new weapon systems. Chris had gathered information on the state of warfare in the galaxy, between the council's rules and the abundant use of shielding technology had all but made projectile weapons obsolete. The rules stated that no advanced technology could be left behind on the lower worlds and that included bullets and slugs.
The requirement of policing your ammunition had made the twins decide to expand their arsenal to include lasers. They had developed a compact fiber oscillator laser rifle using a hot-swappable dwarf crystal for power. The rifle could also be connected directly to the suit for continuous power mode but would act as a passive spell and constantly drain a portion of the power.
They had also developed individual close combat weapons for everyone based on their feedback. They had spent a week building everyone suits and weapons. The hardest part had been imprinting the spells onto the Zallium. If they could use their own abilities it wouldn't have been so hard but they had to mask the spells using Dwarven runes. The runes were not as pliable or as adaptable as the twins would've liked.
Vark and Bolat were loathed to give up the valuable crystals believing it was a waste and that they could have been used upgrading the ship or other systems. In the end, they relented to the practical begging of Null. They also wished to see how far the boys could push rune magic.
The boys had called everyone into the training room to try on the equipment. Lisa was first to arrive, she was excited to see what they had produced. She wasn't much of a warrior but had basic military training but she had a keen scientific interest in some of the ideas and to see the combination of technology and magic.
Jania and Chris entered at the same time holding hands. I detail completely ignored by the twins but it didn't escape Lisa notice. She just smiled to herself.
"You've finished it? Can I go first?" Jania had been waiting for weeks to get her hand on the new suit. Ever since Infy had asked her to try some of the ideas out in VR pods.
Infy and Null connected everyone into their private network they didn't want the dwarves to be eavesdropping on their conversation. The network might not be as secure as the meeting room but it should offer enough security for their purposes.
Jania had tried many weapons out in the VR pod but the one she found that suited her best was a single sickle kusarigama. Her weapon was a 1-handed sickle attached to a rope and weight. Infy had modernised the materials in the design so that the rope was made from nanotubes and the Sickle was made from Titanium-3-Gold alloy coated in a boron nitrite crystal making it one of the hardest and strongest melee weapons that humans could build.
The weight at the end of the weapon was made from a tungsten osmium alloy giving it a great weight for its size. The 5cm in diameter ball at the end of the rope came in just under 7kg. They had tried to use the mass field to increase and decrease the mass of the weight at will but the results always caused a backlash in the user of the weapon.
Null handed Jania her weapon before going back and getting the suit.
Suit Profile (Jania)
Power generator: Fusion
Power Storage: Dwarven power crystal
Armour configuration: Mass reduction Armor
AI assistance: Leia (awareness)
Passive Spells: Energy Shielding, Constant Gravity
Active Spells: Blink, Return
Jania combat style relied on speed and the greater awareness she gained from having AI wired into her head. The AI was nothing like Infy but she had still decided to give it a name. She wasn't intending to use spells often but wanted to be able to use multiple blinks in a row so she chose the dwarven power crystal.
Now that she had her suit she was keen to try it out but needed to wait until the other also had their suits. The next to receive their suit was Chris.
Most of his training had focused on strategy and logistics with only the most basic combat training. He had limited hand to hand combat training and had focused mainly on marksmanship. This made it difficult for Chris to find a close quarter combat weapon that suited him. In the end, he settled for a stun baton and a suit that focused on defence.
Suit Profile (Chris)
Power generator: Fusion
Power Storage: Dwarven power crystal
Armour configuration: Defensive
AI assistance: In development
Passive Spells: Energy Shielding, Constant Gravity
Active Spells: Blink, Mirror Image
Chris honestly wasn't that worried about the suit or the stun baton, but he was excited to try out the new laser rifle. I gun that had limited recoil and whose trajectory was unaffected by gravity was a marksmen dream. He had planned that if they ever got into real battle he would hook his rifle up to his suit and play the role of offering up suppression fire. This all relies on the rifle living up to the boys claim.
It was Lisa turn to receive her suit. She had no interest in combat, the only reason she engaged in fieldwork is because it could inform and improve her research. She had made a myriad of discoveries over the last few months that if she could present just a fraction of them to the scientific community on Earth. She would be remembered as the mother of a new era in science.
She saw her role as more of a supporting character. She would ensure the 3 children had the supplies they need and she could use her scientific knowledge to ensure they also had the information they needed on hand. Information could win or lose a battle before it started.
She had enquired with the boys about creating some form of healing spell or suit. They had explained that they weren't experts in using the life field. They had a couple of idea's but they involved techniques that would cause more problems than they fixed. She would have to wait until they found someone from the organic faction willing to help or convince Vark to share his knowledge.
When discussing her suit with Null and Infy she had many ideas but most of them had to be delayed until the next iteration but she was extremely excited by the options offered by the return spell. She would be able to summon her lab equipment on the fly without having to bring everything with her on missions. This would require a lot of Zallium.
Null handed over her suit.
Suit Profile (Lisa)
Power generator: Antimatter
Power Storage: Superconductor capacitors
Armour configuration: Power
AI assistance: In development
Passive Spells: Energy Shielding, Constant Gravity
Active Spells: Return, Mirror Image
The last person to put on their suit was Null. If they could use their true power and not have to try to cover up the spells they could have created a suit that was more suited to their fighting style. They still had not identified a weapon of choice and had redeployed their stun gloves. They settled for a rather mediocre set of skills but they hoped after some real experience they could refine their options.
Suit Profile (Null)
Power generator: Antimatter
Power Storage: Dwarven power crystal
Armour configuration: Power Armor
AI assistance: Infy
Passive Spells: Energy Shielding, Constant Gravity
Active Spells: Push, Return
The only left to do was to try them out.
