Chapter 17 - The Council

Meanwhile at an undisclosed location.

It was time for The Watcher to face the council. They had assumed they were to report to the Council Assembly but instead they were being transported towards the Supreme council station. That could only mean that The Watcher was going to be presented to the Supreme Council.

The Galactic Council was a flotilla of 3 supermassive space stations and their supporting ships that constantly drifted around the galaxy. It is powered by a tether miniature black hole that would be fed old and dying stars. This provided the whole Flotilla with enough energy that every group could use the most advanced field technology available.

The council in its entirety consisted of 4 branches. The Enforcement Department, The Assembly, The Supreme Council and The Paragon Council. The first three branches were each given a station to govern.

These stations were the size of the earth's own sun. The Supreme Council was given a much smaller station but it was still twice the size of the earth and it only housed the 5 members of the ruling council and their retainers.

The Paragons didn't require any permanent residence, they met so seldom and when they do meet they would bring their own.

Each of these branches played an integral in the management of the galaxy. The Enforcement Department did what its name suggests. It enforced law and order within the galaxy. Unit7321 and the dwarves were from this branch. It was their mission to respond if a monitor called for help.

The Assembly offered a seat of representation for any current members of the council aligned worlds. They dealt with day to day running of the galaxy. They would help solve disrupts between different races and was in charge of ranking new and discovered life forms.

The Supreme Council was a secretive group. Each member was directly assigned to the position by a paragon and they enforced the desires of each of their respective paragons. They were the ultimate power when it came to the rest of the Galaxy. What they said could be considered an order for the paragons themselves.

The Paragon had their responsibilities but no one knew what they were exactly, and no one would dare to try and question them.

The Watcher and Unit7321 had arrived at the Supreme Council meeting chamber. The chamber was a semi-sphere, the insides seems to be coated in living tissue. This tissue would constantly shift and change colour. The motion and absolute quiet made the atmosphere in the chamber difficult to stay unaffected by.

Each member may have been there in person but all either of them could see were 5 projections of everchanging geometrical shapes. All 5 projections of the representatives were identical to each other making it impossible for either The Watcher or Unit7321 to identify which Paragon they represented.

The Watcher had foolishly hoped that they might have been able to use the political differences to divide and conquer. They didn't understand what had happened to require the direct involvement of the Supreme Council. Which was concerning in and of itself.

"Unit7321 you were sent to investigate a code 0. Give your report" the voice seemed to have come from the room and not an individual member.

"The code 0 was not a false report. There was indeed an individual that had used true magic. It was a Human and Angel hybrid child. This Child was able to cancel my field technology with a wave of his hand. I scanned them meticulously and found no evidence of them using Zallium."

"A Human, Angel hybrid. So Sariel it seems you hadn't given up on your experiments. Were you not punished enough the last time. That was only a couple of millennia ago." Once again the voice seems to come from everywhere at once.

The mention of true magic and The Watcher true name had truly shaken them. Sariel was The Watcher real name, and the experiment that was being mentioned was a black mark on their record. Sariel had tried to convince multiple Angels who were capable of shapeshifting into human form into trying to produce children the old fashion way. Sariel had been exiled from their house position and forced to watch over humanity.

Sariel didn't want to betray the twins but they also lacked any capability in protecting them. If they fought back they would lose.

"While I am still experimenting trying to solve the flaw of our existence. This Child was not a planned result from those experiments. Their birth was the convergence of multiple improbable events". Sariel went on to explain the beginning of the child.

Unbeknown to Sariel, there was an intense debate occurring between the 5 members. They liked to present a unified front when dealing with their lesser, but each member had diametrically opposing views on this topic and how it should be resolved.

Two of the members wanted to eliminate the threat while it was in its crib. Another wanted to bring the child in and train it to be an asset for the council. The final two wanted to adopt a wait and see approach. They didn't see the child as a threat and wanted to study it in case more true magi started appearing.

The argument to the participant might have seemed like it had lasted for a long time but it was being carried out at the speed of thought, therefore in reality only 30 seconds had passed. The Supreme Council had come to its conclusion.

The council let both Sariel and Unit7321 know their decision.
