Chereads / Danmachi: Peerless Duo / Chapter 5 - 5. He's Only A Child

Chapter 5 - 5. He's Only A Child

(Sorry for the long wait)

Ren released a sigh after shaking Miach's hand.

He was finally on his way to becoming an Adventurer!

This meant he was one step closer to integrating himself with the plot.

Miach looked at Ren's relieved expression with a smile. Although he didn't like the way Ren convinced him into accepting him into his Familia, he was happy to gain another Familia member.

"Now then Ren, are you ready to receive my Falna?" Ren looked at him in surprise. He had almost forgotten about it in his excitement.

"Yes, Miach-sama." Ren said as he took off his shirt and kneeled down.

Miach noticed that Ren was Familia with the ceremony and didn't comment. He figured that it was one of the things Ren re-searched.

He also noticed that Ren's back had quite a few muscles. Miach couldn't being impressed.

Sadly, he would never know that Ren hadn't trained for this body at all.

A blue light flashed as Miach began giving Ren his Falna.

Ren couldn't help getting nervous at this point. He could only hope that his skills weren't trash and at least somewhat special.

'Please give me a unique skill.' he thought as the light receded.

Ren noticed Miach's silence as his panic grew.

"Is something wrong?" Ren asked as an awkward smile showed up on his face.

Miach gave Ren a long look before a sigh escaped from him. "There's nothing wrong. I just haven't seen your skills before." Miach said as he handed a copy of the status board to Ren.

Ren practically yanked it as he read his status with a weird expression.

Ren stared at it for a while before Miach's call woke him up from his daze.

"Are you okay?" Miach asked when he notice Ren's expression

It was then that Ren noticed a single tear rolling down his cheek.

"Huh?" Ren was surprised as he wiped the tear from his face. Even he was surprised by his reaction.

But none of it mattered in that moment as Ren felt a sense of accomplishment he had never felt before.

"Never been better!" Ren said as he beamed a smile.

He genuinely couldn't be happier at this moment. For the first time in his life, Ren felt like he had achieved a major goal.

The constant thought that he wouldn't be able to receive Falna had plagued his mind for a while.

After all, he wasn't from this world. Nobody had any clue what could happen.

He had never missed home as much as he did right now.

The fact that he wouldn't be able to share this moment with anyone from his past life hit him like a truck as tears began to fall from his eyes

Yet the smile on his face didn't seem to disappear one bit.

Miach looked at Ren with a look filled with pity. It didn't take him long to figure out the reason for Ren's state. It wasn't the first time he had seen such a face, but it had been long.

Afterall, Adventurers were common nowadays. Nobody would show such joy and sorrow in the current era.

It took Ren a while to calm himself down. His face gained a tinge of red as he thought about his recent outburst.

He distracted himself and decided to focus on his newly gained status board.

Ren looked at his skills with a weird expression. He had no clue how they worked at all.

This was the only fault with Unique Skills. One would have to figure them out on their own. Of course, help from others was more them welcome.

The only skill Ren had a clue about was [Elemental Augmentation]. It didn't take a genius to figure out what it meant. The problem lied in the other two skills.

Ren was Japanese in his past life, so he could figure out the meaning behind the two skill names. [Kusari] meant chain and [Kage] meant shadow.

Unfortunately, that didn't give him any insight on what the skills could do at all.

Ren finally looked up and realized he was the only one left in the room. He had no clue as to when Miach left.

Gathering himself, he stepped out of the room to see Miach in a discussion with a female chienthrope.

"Ren, meet your fellow Familia member, Naaza."
