"I said, it is another perfect lie you have designed."
Mantisha said strongly and firmly. Her eyes fixed on his ones as she looked at him on with a look, like she could see what was happening inside his head.
Under her overbearing stare and her tone, that man started to sweat. He did not think that this plan had any flaws in it but now that he was facing the pressures, he started to question the decision he made.
Adi gritted his teeth as he tried hard to control the rage building inside him. He could not lost his temper in front of so many people. It was not easy to build an empire in just a generation, yet he made it work. Only he knew how many meshes he had to cut and how many plots he still has to mess with. He had seen countless people stepping on each other, plotting against each other or backstabbing a long term friend. In this circle, one can only be your ally or else foe. However just in a blink of the eyes, every associates could turn into an enemy.
Now that he was in the top of a pyramid, the empire he made by solely his hands, he wanted his family to be there with him too.
He was happy with Sylvia by his side, but if Mantisha also was there with them, his family frame would be perfect. By the moment he knew her existence, he had considered her as his daughter. An offspring of him which he could not have for the unfortunate twists of fate. He understood that she needed time to accept him fully and he would gladly give her that.
He wanted her to be known by everybody, he wanted her to be feared, be respected, be admired. Only by making her known as one of his people, he could protect her thoroughly. He swore to himself that he would make her trust him and depend on him. Until then, he could only send especially trained people to follow her from a distance and send her whereabouts to him.
But what he did not expect that in his party, someone would dare to plot against his people. And not just any other guest, but HIS DAUGHTER!
He glanced towards Miss Smith once and then glanced again towards Mantisha. Mantisha had changed her gown to another one from his collections, and there were no chance to wear the same one he prepared for Miss Smith. So there were only one possibility left, if it was not designed specifically for Miss Smith, Mantisha was the initial target.
"And how did you guess it?" Adi asked in a frosty tone, his voice devoid of any emotions.
Surrounding people gasped in surprise. He did not ask for any proof but ask that girl for her opinions, asked her how did she guess that it was designed!
Albert stared at them with an unknown expression in his face. His eyes fixed on Mantisha.
On the other hand, Matteo looked at her with interest. He looked like a little boy who had just discovered a new toy to play.
Steven still stood in a corner, an amicable smile lingered in his face. He started tapping his fingers as he gestured towards Andrew. He got his signal, and eyed a man standing on a certain angle. The man moved silently and went to blend with the people standing too close to Adi and Sylvia.
Mantisha took a deep breath, then finally opened her mouth.
"You just told that she was so perfect that you could not match with her pace. But you were the one who took the lead. So it was you who set the speed. And if you were nervous, then it must be for the reason she matched your pace so perfectly that could not perform the act you were asked to."
That man started to sweat tremendously. He could not understand why this girl was getting so much involved in other people's businesses. He still retorted with all his might.
"Don't you dare to spout nonsense about me. It was just an assumption of yours. Besides, she was going to fall down. I was just going to prevent that in a gentlemanly way."
Mantisha sneered, then moved her eyes from him.
"Miss Smith's every step was so skilled that everybody could see her being an expert in this field. She did not miss a single beat or slowed down her pace throughout the song. Then how did she suddenly miss one when the song was going to end and probably she completed the last swing. If not distracted, the how? And if she was distracted, then what made her like that?"
Mantisha paused for a moment, then looked at her mother. Sylvia nodded her head slightly, a tacit understanding between them made her a little comfortable.
Adi looked at her with a doting gaze, he knew this girl was shy but also brave. It was a unique personality trait that she received from Sylvia.
But until then, he did not have the chance to watch her act all heroic. He even got to see her observation power, he did not realise she is so promising. She made him more adamant to his decision. He thought that he just need to convince her.
"You told us that you wanted to prevent the fall. But according to human psychology, if such a situation arrives, a person would stretch out his hands because of adrenaline rush. But you just did the opposite, you placed your foot on the side hem of her dress."
*Silence*
Lily's entire body trembled. For the first time in a while, she raised her eyes and looked directly towards the man.
"I wonder, how a 'gentleman' would react when his partner's dress was torn. Wouldn't his first reaction to put his suit over her body and protect her from the gazes she receive?"
*Awkward Silence*
Mantisha was enraged just by thinking his actions.
"I remember you asked me to dance, even after getting rejected, three times in a row." Lily's cold voice sounded through the hall.
Everybody looked at her in surprise. By just one comment of hers, the entire game of suspicions turned into obviousness. No decent man would request a lady to dance again if he was rejected once. Such an approach of him pointed towards the certainity that the entire matter was fabricated from the very start.
Mantisha sneered with disdain, then she looked at the lady who started bickering first.
A cold glint flashed past her eyes, "If the matter was really designed..." She pointed her finger towards Miss Cindy as she told,
"Then I'm highly suspicious of her to be involved in this play as well."
