"Speak now or forever hold your peace." I hear these words boom into my ears as I get startled out of my stupor. In front of me, I see Ashlyn, my best friend since preschool, in a beautiful white dress on the altar beside a man in a black suit about to make the biggest mistake of her life.
"Stop this wedding right now!" I shout as loud as I can. Stares of shock and horror are directed at me. I turn to Ashlyn and whisper in her ear, "CODE 21." She stiffens before turning to Henry, her 'husband to be', and slaps him before yelling, "How could you?"
I take a moment to enjoy his flabbergasted face before getting dragged away by Ashlyn to my hotel room. "You better have a good explanation for this because I just did something that can't be undone."
I take a deep breath before looking her dead in the eyes and saying, "I just got reincarnated."
She doesn't let me continue by letting out a howl of laughter. "Are you drunk? Had one too many drinks? Need to take a breather?"
"No, I'm serious. I just experienced the next 5 years. Stop laughing. Getting married to Henry had become your biggest regret."
"That's impossible. We love each other," she cuts me off again.
"If you would just let me finish, he actually still loves Sophia, who will return in three months and ruin your marriage because she isn't over him either. Plus, you don't really love him either, you're just trying to convince yourself otherwise."
"I-I don't know what you're saying. We love e-each other."
"You were about to break up with him when he suddenly proposed."
"I never told you that!"
"You did in the future."
"Which I still don't believe."
I sigh before saying, "You deserve real love, not this... thing."
"But I don't know if I'll ever find it."
"You're just 23, how could you say that? Plus you will."
"Right you have allegedly seen the future. Who is it?"
"Not telling," I tease her.
She rolls her eyes before letting out a squeal of delight and falling on the bed taking me down next to her. She has this pure, untainted smile that makes me smile too. I won't let you suffer this lifetime, not you nor anyone else I love. The people who try to hurt us will suffer from a life worse than death. This is my promise.
