Chereads / His Moonlight / Chapter 24 - Drowning

Chapter 24 - Drowning

It seems that Jane is really easy to talk to, and it's also a nice change in Lune's life since it's been a while she is meeting someone younger than her in this life, so she is now using this rare chance to play with Jane's son, and before she can asks him the 100th time where she is, Chilve comes back to the counter and shows the request paper he is holding to Jane, "I'm taking this one. Come on Lune, let's go."

"But I didn't have my license yet."

"There's no rules that mention a non adventurer can't follow a licensed adventurer for requests, and this is a quick one," he winks at her trying to make it look like he knows everything and just expects her to leave everything to him, "by the time we finished this, I'm sure you will get your license," and he turns to start leading her out of this building, where Lune doesn't forget to say a quick "see you later" to Jane, and he doesn't see there's something on the floor and stepped on it, where he slips and before he hits the ground, Lune quickly grabs him but she loses her balance too, where she is going to fall and just when she is bracing herself for the fall, she doesn't feel the floor and instead there's something warmth beneath her.

It seems that during all the quick slip up, Lune is now on top of Chilve, where he is on the ground while hugging her tightly with both of his arms. She opens her eyes slowly, revealing the amber eyes Chilve has grown to love, and he asks with a huskier voice since he is a little out of breath, "I didn't know you are this forward. Using my fall as an excuse to feel me up? You're a naughty one."

All her blood rushes towards her cheeks, where it must be as red as tomatoes right now, and she tries to move away from him, but the arms lock her in this compromising position and somehow, her movement kind of rubs against him, "not so fast. You can't just run away after attacking me like this."

"Let me go!"

"Only if you kiss me first," his smirk grows wider when he catches her staring at his lips unconsciously right after he said that, and she wants to retort with something smart until someone in the hall shouts at them, "get a room, you lovebirds! We are trying to eat here!"

"Fast, or we might get banned from being adventurers for a long time."

'How dare he have the nerve to play around at a time like this!' Deciding to stop being nice, she conjures a water orb and submerge Chilve's head into it, where he immediately lets her go and coughs from the water after the orb is broken the moment she gets up and stands, and with her fiercest look she can muster right now despite her blushing madly, she complains, "if you are going to do that again, I will drown you."

"I'm hurt, my lady."

"Don't worry, you will be fine if you can still talk," she quickly walks and turns back to see Chilve getting his bearings, "are you going to show me the ropes or not?"

He nods and quickly follows her out after casting an apologetic look to Jane for his flirty behavior earlier, and once they are outside, she asks, "so what's the request about?"

"Something about not enough rain for the crops and the farmer needs someone with water elemental magic," her mouth hangs open from the menial task and Chilve shrugs, "what?"

"You want me to water the crops?"

"Why not? It helps the kingdom's economy if the crops are healthy, isn't it a win-win situation?"

"No monsters or beasts to beat?" He facepalms from the question and he sighs, "Lune, we can do that after you get your license. Besides, there are pests that linger around farms anyways, so you can take some action if they come close to us."

"What kind of pests?"

"Slimes, toads, that kind," he starts walking and she follows his footsteps, where she silently complains inside on how long his legs are to walk this fast, "I'm sure you're familiar with slimes? They are pretty common and can split or combine if they wish to, so they are a pain to deal with, but nothing you can't handle."

"Then what about the toads?" She hates frogs, and toads are worse than frogs, so she knows she has to brace herself if she meets one, "I hope they are not too much."

"Nah, we just need to dodge their landing after they jump and that's pretty much it. What kind of weapons did you bring?"

She takes a quick peek at her dagger at her waist belt and she says, "a sword, dagger. I plan to upgrade to better weapons later."

"Good. You might need something that can make you fight long range better, maybe some magic orbs to make your magic conjures better than just throwing them aimlessly," he quickly says no to someone that sells sweets at the street that approaches them and he continues, "or maybe, you can get a bow and shoot water arrows. Make your imagination run wild with how you use them."

They finally reach the outskirt of town that has a huge field of crops and a farmhouse at the front, where there's an old man that greets them and after telling them to take care of it, Lune thinks it might be a good idea to come daily for this if the job is easy for some easy cash, since more exciting places need better equipments, and more equipments means more money needed.

Once they reach the center of the field, she starts focusing to conjure her water magic so she can make it spray all over the crops like rain, and just at the moment she feels like it's going to be enough, she opens her eyes to see Chilve is dealing with a huge toad, and boy how ugly it looks that she actually loses focus for a bit, and release it at the wrong timing, and both Chilve and the toad got washed away from the huge waves of water while she shouts, "I'm sorry!"
