"I would like to challenge you for the alpha position."
Just when Chilve's mother is glad that he is back to the pack, this is the first thing he said to the current alpha of the pack, who is his own uncle. And instead of taking this seriously, he barks in laughter while having two females in his arms giggle along to him, "what is a kid like you doing challenging for something that is out of your league?"
Before his mother can pull him away from the alpha to avoid any trouble escalating, he continues in a mocking tone, "what, are you scared that you might lose to a kid like me?"
The wolves around them immediately gasp from how daring Chilve's tongue is, and when his mother knows that there's no turning back for her son, she quietly walks away to the back and lets it unfold. Gavin, the current alpha of the pack, has a serious face expression when his nephew's tone showed that he is not joking about it, and suddenly waves the females off and gets up from his seat, "you know the rules right?"
"Yes."
"Well then," Gavin approaches the boy and looks downward at him from his height, "if you lose, I'm going to make you my slave."
'Its now or never.' Chilve doesn't back down and he just steels his resolve, "and if I win, you are not going to be breathing the same air as me ever again."
The alpha starts circling around his nephew and before he can do anything else, Childe turns into his wolf form, making the onlookers startled from how early he turns during such an important match, "naive, Chilve. Though I will have fun tearing your soul apart."
Without any further warning, Chilve pounces on him and when he tries to smack him away, he groans when his nephew seems to be heavier and stronger than he looks, making him fall down from the force. Yet he disappears from his sight instead of pressing down on him continuously, "it seems you got stronger! Did you slack off from labor and train by yourself? What a bastard."
Another pounce and he can feel his legs give way a little, and he staggers, regaining his composure quickly and yet, Chilve attacks again, making a huge cut on both of his legs. 'I need to hurt him enough so he will be useless in his wolf form.' Before he can make another attack, Gavin turns into his wolf form where his fur is black, a huge contrast when compared to Chilve's fur, and a huge scar on his back can be seen as clear as full moon nights. Chilve hisses in pain when there's a huge pain on his hind leg, and the alpha seems to be pleased with his own work by how wide he grins. 'I can't let him have the upper hand here, it's now or never!'
He learnt it when he was fighting against beasts that are larger and stronger than him, one will call this his ultimate move. Yet if he misses, he will be in deep trouble since he will never be able to regain his strength to defend his uncle's attacks. He starts gathering his mana required for the move, and his fur starts glowing in light blue light.
The alpha looks on instead of attacking him and teases, "looks like the pup actually learnt something useful when he disobeyed my orders. Let's see what you have in store, since I'm feeling benevolent today," and before he can say anything further since he seems to have more in store to tease the albino about, Chilve strikes him, hard right on his head.
And he actually falls down from that. Chilve quickly takes this chance to pound his head in the ground more, earning shouts from the onlookers and there's one elder wolf that seems to be afraid that Chilve might run amok from using such a huge amount of mana to pull off that move, "stop! The winner has been decided, and it's you, Chilve Pane!"
It takes almost a whole village to bring Chilve back to his human form, by pulling and shouting at him endlessly. When he comes back to his senses, Gavin is no longer breathing, and his face is so deformed no one will recognize him by looks alone. Some of the females that are close to him seems to be crying for his death, while his father approaches after all the commotion and asks around, "what is this about?"
"Your son challenged your brother and he won. So by custom, he will be crowned the new alpha of our pack."
"What are we going to do? Our pack will be led by a young wolf? Even if he is the previous alpha's nephew, but still-"
"Our pack will be doomed like a child's play!"
Chilve glares at those that made a noise and they all quickly shut their mouth up, and he finally opens his mouth to talk after the earlier ruckus, "if you're unhappy with my lead, feel free to go before I silence them forever."
Soon the elders approaches them with fruits and meat that they get from the storage, and the eldest, who is an old man with gray hair and a hunchback, gestures to the floor and says, "Chilve, please have a seat on the floor. We will start the alpha ritual for the whole night."
'This is it, this is the first step of leading the pack for a better future.' He follows as instructed and they start placing the offerings in a formation, and one of them starts drawing a huge marking on the ground by pouring thin lines of sand from their fingers. The eldest takes out something that looks like a tome and flips through the pages, where he found whatever he was searching for and starts chanting, and the others follow suit.
This goes on until the sun rises.
