SELENE
"Seriously!?" I yelled in an out-of-character way, "That's what you're concerned about!?" I sat up and messed my still-wet hair after I've successfully and gently laid his highness Onyx unto my bed.
"My editor will kill me!" I was about to jump in distress before I realized what I said, "Wait, no! She wouldn't kill me! But still, she'll kill me!" I muttered the first two sentences before I loudly proclaim the last sentence.
"Ah, geez! What am I saying!? I don't even know if what I said made any sense! None of this is making any sense! What should I do!? Ah, I'm going to die!" I said, groaning and letting out a few noises of suffering while jumping lightly and messing with my hair, tightly shutting my eyes as my friends just watched, even Onyx is silently staring at me, seeming to be studying me in my about-to-have-a-mental-breakdown form.
This is why we can't have nice things! This is why I hate procrastinating, especially at the last few minutes and seconds! This is also why I hate having writer's block with a burning passion! And to think I've been suffering from that dreaded block for a long time! Unforgivable!
"Hey, Selie, I know you're going to be chasing after another deadline this week, I understand that but you need to chill." I heard Shannie spoke making me look at her to see her with furrowed eyebrows and a concerned look on her cute face, "Why not just take it easy for now, yeah? It's probably for the best and will maybe give you an advantage? You need to relax, sister. Like relax relax. 'Kay?"
"No. I get that you're concerned and I appreciate it, Shan." I started, detaching my hands from my hair, "But seriously, this is literally serious. What if my paycheck get deducted or delayed this month? If those chapters get delayed, then my money will also get delayed and that's the last thing I want to happen right now!"
"Why the hell do you even need the money for? You already have millions and millions! Even billions, trillions and much, much more than that! Your father owns a lawfirm, and not just a lawfirm, the most successful and high-end lawfirm in the whole freaking country or even continent! And your mother owns a chain of hospitals while your grandparents owns a chain of shopping malls! Your very smoking hot and handsome second older brother who's in England even sends you money! Even if you're studying a very hard course on an elite college and pays very hefty prices for your education, you can afford it just fine! You're smart too! On top of that, your parents are so wealthy! You're already too freakin' rich to even care about your paychecks like that!" Wow, just how much did she say? She's enumerated every little thing, maybe. If she enumerated my whole family tree complete with their occupation, that would have been the cherry on top!
"It's not about the money, Ruka!"
"But you just literally and technically made it seem like it really is about the cha-chings!"
"What the heck!? When did I?" I asked myself but shook my head when I remembered what I said, dang it, "On second thought, don't answer that question. That was dumb." I said sighing before I sat down again, Onyx jumping unto my lap to lay down again almost immediately.
"I just want to be independent by, you know, not depending on my parents' money to live when I moved out. I wanted to show that I can become a great novelist like my mother and that I can take care of myself just fine. That way, they wouldn't need to worry about me too much." I said, recalling how much of a worrywart they are and how much it might affect them if they find out about what my problems are, which were fortunately not that big, I then started puffing my cheek, "Besides, I'm not the one that's wealthy, it's my parents who are wealthy, because if you're going to say something like that as if you're a news anchor and is updated about every single latest gossips on a daily basis, then please get your facts right at the very least." I sighed before I frowned and slapped a hand on my face, face palming for a while.
"Ah! I shouldn't have agreed and partied with you guys last night!" I exclaimed, still face palming.
"What!? Why!? You needed to chill out last night! You needed a night out! To refresh! You know, to socialize! To interact with people!" Axiesse said, immediately sitting up so fast that even Onyx was surprised.
"No, as far as I know, you two, along with Michael are the ones who only wanted to go there and have fun! I'm fairly certain that Mindy and Shannie wanted to stop you two but they ended up agreeing!" I stated, very sure that the two said girls didn't really want to come but they decided not to disappoint the three partygoers.
"What about you? Why did you agree then?" Ruka questioned, pointing at me. I just sighed again before laying back down on my bed and puffing my cheek again.
"Peer pressure, I'm far too sensitive." I answered, referencing Billy from the first Scream movie when asked about his own motive as to why he did the things he did with a nonchalant look in my face. Now that I thought about it, I haven't really watched those classic horror movies in a while. I really like the slasher type of movies. My personal favorites might be Halloween and Friday the 13th. Heck, it was even one of the reasons why I'm close friends with and got along with Michael in the first place because he has the same name as my favorite killer, Michael Myers from the Halloween franchise.
"C'mon, Selie! Socializing is good for ya!" Axiesse remarked with a light giggle.
"I don't need to do that to live."
"Live a little and enjoy life, like seriously, dude."
"I'm not a 'dude', Ruka. And also, I'm already living, what do you mean by 'live a little'? Am I dead?" I asked and turned to rest my head on Shannie's shoulder who proceeded to pat my cheek lightly and had her eyes closed, possibly thinking for the upcoming exams a month from now if she isn't already asleep for some reason. She's an honor student like me but she's at the top of the class, and so, she's always so grade conscious and would literally flip out if her grades dropped even by a mere one point. I'm smart myself but I just don't see the point in wanting to get the highest grades and marks. I have high grades and all but I settled for the third and fourth academic rank since I didn't want to add up to the already suffocating and annoying competitive environment in college. Ever since highschool, I've had a personal motto, and that is: There's a huge difference between "I can do it" and "I should do it". Because for me, doing something when I don't have a valid enough reason to do so will just waste my time and energy.
"You're always like that. That's why you've never got a boyfriend even once." I quickly snapped my eyes open and looked at Ruka, glaring at her when she just started a topic I'm uncomfortable about which made Axiesse laugh so loud that I'm sure Mindy and Michael heard it from downstairs and heard slash felt Shannie giggle lightly before rubbing my back in an attempt to soothe and calm me down. I also feel my temper rising and my face turning red. Whether due to anger or embarrassment, I do not know nor do I care but all I do know and care is that I might have someone to slap with the palm of justice, also known as, Selene's palm.
"Burn! That shit burned you more than how Celestia got burnt as an execution, huh, Selie?" Axiesse remarked, still laughing, referencing to Danganronpa 1's Celestia who had been executed during the third trial, oops, spoiler alert. Axiesse just kept on laughing as I silently wished for her to choke on air.
About a few seconds later, Axiesse did choke on air, I didn't even know it was possible. Now, it was my turn to laugh.
"You two, don't make fun of Selene's relationship status like that, her non-existant boyfriend might get mad." Shannie said, lightly joking. I was about to say something when she took my hand and squeezed it lightly with a smile.
"I'm getting hungry, let's eat?" She offered and I nodded.
"Let's just have lunch. Let's all cook downstairs! Off to the kitchen!"
"Hey! How dare you say that as if you own the apartment, Ruka!?"
"What's mine is yours, what's yours is mine rule in friend circles, right? Also, Your home, my home!"
"Geez, that little..." I just sighed before shaking my head and opening the door more so Onyx can also follow the two to the kitchen like what me and Shannie are doing.
"I just hope they don't burn my apartment down to the ground or break any of my things."
"I'm sure they won't since-"
*Clang!*
"Oopsies!"
"Ruka! Why did you drop the pans!?" We heard Axiesse shout from downstairs.
"I spoke too soon." Shannie said, scratching her cheek lightly with a sheepish smile.
"I freaking knew it." I said, sighing yet again.
