Chapter 35 - Truth behind Lies

The murderous gaze of the King suddenly turns toward me and as if the pressure wasn't enough, he cast greater magic to it.

I thought for a second that I will collapse. However, thanks to my antimagic spell I just cast for the unexpected; Zero Thread, which cut the ties towards any magic surrounding me, I was able to endure it and manage to reject the receiving magic.

The King's eyes focus on me for a while until his excitement came back.

I don't know what's happening, but it seems the King have an unpredicted personality that can be called dangerous.

"Oh, Apologies. I seem to have lost myself there. Now, what was it again, Mister Verian of The Count Zortes?"

"The accusation of my involvement, your majesty. I believe you mention about having the Eye of Lies, it can be used as a mean to judge my words."

"I know that, Verian. But, I want you to see something first."

As soon as the King said so, he gesture one of the knight barely standing still to their post and proceed to guide us towards the side room located right beside the throne area.

"Civil War started almost half a year ago, but ended quite quickly. I didn't expect such foolhardy of that Duke, yet I'm impress he have the courage to oppose against me. Surely, you won't do the same, Mister Verian?"

I stop my movement as soon as I heard his question. It's because of his magic that's been activated ever since he spoke.

Which means his Eye of Lies should be open.

But since my Zero Thread is active, it should negate any sort of physical magic including appraisal right?

And after thinking for a while, I start walking again and answer the King with a poker face.

"No, your majesty. The foolishness of those who oppose you remain foolish even if I learn what is it that their fighting for. So you don't need to be wary, please rest assured."

"My spell didn't react? That's..."

The king mutter as he keeps walking. From the look of his face, he seem to feel astonished from my answer.

That's right.

Zero Thread, My latest experimental spell. It came from a form of an imaginary thread-like object that I use to cut every magic particles that might intrude to my inner body. Of course, it has it flaws since it's a physical form of magic.

Which means, spiritual form of magic can't be negate such as the Follower of Nature.

I made it when I was secluded inside the torture chamber trying to endure the pain from the whip's lashes. Since I can't use magic at that time, it basically means I was being oppress by another type of magic.

And so, I created a more powerful one that can overpower such magic spell with the knowledge I gained from the [Knowledge Menu] and with my knowledge in my previous world which brings me here. Being able to lie without any hint of suspicion!

As I thought so, I made a disgusting expression that made the other people back away.

After that, we arrive at the suppose backyard of the castle.

However, calling it a backyard seem to be an understatement. It's just soooo big that there's almost a space for a small village to occupy it!

"What should we be doing here, your majesty?"

"Enough question, just follow."

Damn bastard. Too oppressive.

I gaze to the King's back as I thought, but when I did, I notice a daggering glare from the prince who followed us.

While at the same time, the Queen have the worried look on her face again like the first time we met. To be honest, I'm getting really confuse from this.

This family is just too weird.

It didn't take us too long to arrive to our destination which seem to be a small cabin located at the far most back of the castle's backyard.

The cabin looks old, but you can say it's well maintained. The roof that have its cleanliness and so does the walls made up of timber.

Overall, it's a seemingly peace-looking house you can find everywhere in this country outside the walled cities.

But, of course, not even me expected this to see.

"Get in."

I did what I was told so and open the wooden door of the cabin. What welcome me is a foul smell of a rotten meat left unnoticed.

As soon as I light the small torch at the side of the door. What reveal inside the house is a body.

No, not a body of dead deers or animals that was hunted by the royals.

It's a bodies of Human.

"It is just recently that the war had ended, we capture every person involve to the opposing side, may it be the Duke, or the Duke's son."

We both look at each other after hearing the statement of the king. The king look at me as if waiting for an answer while, I'm also waiting for his continuation.

But, the king's order is absolute they say, so I think his ordering eyes needs to be fulfilled?

And so, I ask him a question.

"I beg your pardon, your majesty, please do enlighten this foolish subject of yours."

"Very well. You know that we just won a war recently right?"

"Yes, I partook after being conscripted."

"That's right, I saw your records. Despite against your will, you seem to have a kind heart that you will sacrifice yourself for the sake of your subject.

Anyways, it shouldn't took that long. Why? Because of these traitors. Suddenly stabbing my country's back and proclaiming themselves as independent sovereign.

Aren't they foolish, Verian?"

The king grit his teeth as if enduring something, I don't fully understand it but it seems he trusted those who opposed him.

And it sadden, or either anger him that such thing happened?

"And so, instead of killing the head of the opposing families, I order my soldiers to kill their heir. Even if the Heir didn't participate the conflict. I told them,"Kill all male, leave the ladies." I want them to understand how it feels to be betrayed and left."

I see...

I understand now.

This king... He's naive.

"So-"

"I order them to kill all male of their family. Except yours."

What?

"What do you mean?"

"However, the moment you step inside the castle, I feel a different air around my home. The queen felt it too, or rather, she saw it."

"W-what is?"

"Verian, you're planning to kill me, don't you?"
