Chapter 36 - Civil War I

Astonishment, surprise, bewildered, fear.

Every word that can be describe as shocking emotion dwell all inside my mind as I heard his word.

"You seem surprise."

Of course I am! You just blatantly said my intention in front of me, your soon-to-be killer, with a calm face! It looks as if you're so confident that I can't do it!

"Haha... Fretnot Verian, no need to feel tense. I just want to know it, that's all."

Should I be honest?

But if I answer him truthfully, it will get me in trouble, won't it? Surely, this king has his scheme.

Despite the innocent look on his face, the intent behind it seems unimaginable just Iike the unpredicted speech he makes ever since the start.

Taking such a huge risk somewhat ridiculous, but... Trying sometimes can discover an interesting happening.

And so, I fix my composure as I try my best not to do anything suspicious. As I do so, I look at the intent eyes of the king in front of me with a smile on my face and said,

"Yes, I am."

"Why?"

"Why? All humans have greed that reside in the back of their heart, your majesty. It just happen that I want to be a king and killing you is a necessary action towards my goal."

"Huh. Dear me. You've really said it in front of my face."

"Perhaps it is because lying can't go through you."

We stare at each other with a slight tense atmosphere surrounding the room as we spoke.

Speaking my true intention must be the most dumbest thing I have ever done, especially in front of the king. But, if it's for my goal, I don't think I need to care about any of that.

The least I could think of is the safety of my family. I left them at the palace without knowing any sort of information regarding their situation.

With that, I can't resort to any violence that will give risk to my family.

"You're... Right."

The king's gaze lowered towards the corpses lying at the other side of the room. The rotting smell does really make it look like a disgusting piece of meats that can't be identify without the heads.

That kind of silence was made for nearly an entire minute until he spoke again.

"The fact that you just plan to kill me is already a high treason with a punishment of beheading as a form of execution."

"I know."

"I see..."

As soon as he said so, the king mutters an unusual language. But what I heard is an ancient language that was depicted by the sages and scholars who dedicated themselves towards magic.

A spell that is beyond recognized by the new generation mage which is capable of altering the reality within its area of cast.

Hand of Wisdom.

"Freezing Cold!"

"Water Aegis!"

The king immediately cast a terrible spell which made me counter it by casting a wall separating the two of us.

As soon as I do so, another form of spell appears at my right side. A fire ball with a diameter of a soccer ball flash through the timber walls of the cabin and almost hit my face.

Without a second of thought, I immediately drag my body as I use the momentum after evading the dangerous spell and move backward towards the lying corpse.

"Deadly Touch"

I touch the lying corpse in the floor and cast a spell with a face of disgust.

It is not the time to feel such thing yet since my life is currently at these corpes mercy.

Within 10 seconds, the spell I cast towards the corpse worked!

But it became too late when the earthen wall I cast made a hole revealing the desperate face of the king and cast another spell towards me.

This time, he cast a sharp wind and it cut through the corpses and hitting the left side arm of mine slicing the flesh of it.

I didn't scream of pain since I got used to it after being tortured for who-knows how long and acted in accordance to the situation.

The magic spell I cast worked, but because of the king's spell, the body that should be lying had been cut to pieces and didn't manage to even get near him.

And so, I didn't bother to order them to attack, instead, I let them block the projectiles that will bring harm to me and give me time as I cast another spell.

This will be the very first time I will use this spell since I didn't got a lot of time to do so.

A spell that creates a sound loud enough to form a shockwave. A deafening spell that even risk my own life.

"Celestial Harmony!"

And so, without any sign of object nor life being cast from me. A sound, with a decibels of who knows how much, form a circle in front of me and flew towards my desired hit point.

Then there, the Soundwave I just cast made a devastating attack which instantly, with a blink of an eye, destroyed the former large backyard almost entirely.

The sound was so loud that anyone inside the area of my spell who did not use any sort of protection, will instantly die as their brain will pop out from their head because of the shockwave.

I look around with panic visible in my face as I begin to cast another spell that is almost related to the one I just used.

I analyze every corner as I prepare my spell. the visitors who arrested me from before is currently lying at the distorted grassy floor while the others are nowhere to be found.

Until I reach my eyes outside the area of my spell.

There, a figure with a number that won't exceed five, stand still near the Castle door as they stare at me with a frightened face.

The king, who was just in front of me, was almost a hundreds of meters away from his former position.

I am quite astonishment from the quick reaction of them. It seems they use some sort of speed spell or teleportation spell.

I don't know. I think it's a mobility spell that is faster that sound.

Anyway, I change my plan and cast a spell to escape from the castle. The escape goes too smooth that I suspect the royal to not give any orders of pursue.

And so, I manage to escape from the grasp of those people and at the same time, manage to test one of my original spells.

[Pearl, Queen of Morbia's POV]

When the fight happens as I worried, the uneasiness feeling inside of me worsen.

I-I can't seem to shake it as I see the King's face lifelessly.

I have the power of Future's Sight. I can see or predict any sort of event that will happen, and it can also be given on how it will be prevented or pursue.

However, now, the prediction have a problem.

No solution or any sort of thing that will prevent it from happening appear.

It's as if, the death of the king is already set in stone.

I want to speak with the man called Verian, but my husband don't want me to.

He said it was too risky.

He said it was too dangerous.

But whenever he said that, his face always appear in my mind without any life.

I don't want that to happen.

I can't!

But, all of it is too late now.

It already happen.

"Gregor, fire at that location! That's the suppose area of that traitor should be!"

"No!"

I immediately object from his order to the royal knight, but the prince only give me a frightening glare that made me stand still.

"You don't order me around, you concubine of my father. Know your place, and you, do as I told you!"

"Y-yes, your highness!"

"Fireball!"

As soon as he do so, a size of a two hand flew towards the location where the prince had instructed.

Unfortunately, it seems that his spell didn't manage to hit Verian.

"Another!"

"I-It will take time, your highness, the casting spell take too much time because of the formula!"

"Ugh! Useless!"

I silently watch the two man in front of me argue then direct my gaze towards the wooden door as the house starts to form a fire.

I tried to move towards it to save them, but the servants beside me hold both of my arms as they shake their head signaling me to not do anything.

I don't want it! I can't just leave them there!

I force myself out from my servant as they struggle to restrain me without giving me any harm, but as soon as I set free from them, instantly, the house in which Verian and the king fought got destroyed.

And in a blink of an eye, I was suddenly in front of the door of the castle a few hundred meters away from my former location.

And there, I saw, the beautiful flowery, and greenery of my backyard, turned brown as the ground was distorted.

"W-what happen..."

My husband, who suppose to be inside the destroyed house, ask as he look at the area petrified.

I don't know too.

"It's his spell."

All of us turn our face at our back as we saw an old figure exiting the castle door.

It's the former king of Morbia, Zelos.

"Fafher, what are you doing here?!"

"Fool, if I'm not here, you would've died with those people lying on the ground."

My astonishment of seeing the former king figure left me speechless as I observe the father and son conversation.

But, it is not the time for such reunion.

"W-what exactly happen?"

And so, I ask the old figure, or rather, the former king.

When I did, the former king glance at me for a short second and return his focus towards the destroyed backyard.

"I don't know, but it's an enemy we can't defeat."
