The girl, her brother, and I tried our best to dodge every zombie in our way. We tossed them afterwards to the side, since we can't have them here inside the train. However, those two siblings already wore down and became sluggish with their actions. A river of sweat flowed onto their cheeks as they tried to shove the zombies away from their plastic wrappers.
It won't surprise me if they forfeited this match and let themselves get bitten by the zombies. If this continued for any longer, that dreadful thought could happen soon.
But I never let my guard down and made sure that these two would live a longer life than dying in this shit-hole. I didn't want them to turn into one of those things who fed themselves with other humans. These two siblings had a kind heart, with a bright future ahead of them. There was no telling what they would become if these siblings got bitten by these zombies.
And we didn't want to know the answer to my question. And every time I thought about that, my body quivered in displeasure.
While that happened, Kane and Aiko sidestepped the zombies and reached the Hoarder's flank. They used the zombie's heads as platforms and jolted from one undead creature to the other. The two of them were in the driver's cab, where the Hoarder stayed and attracted the attention of this horde. Thanks to their weapons and fists, they straightforwardly brought down the special infected.
It was just like the system had mentioned earlier to me. Hoarders could lure the nearby zombies into its location, especially the Dweller.
And when the Hoarder did something strange with its body, Kane was quick enough to dismantle its skin and took out its core. The weakness that Hoarders had was the existence inside their chests, which Kane took care of. The Hoarder died in a flash and became a lifeless vessel. It was like any other zombies we defeated. It even gnarled after its last breath and glared at Kane's figure.
Aiko defended Kane's back and kept the zombies at bay while that happened. He used his fist of fury and punched each of those zombies against the wall. That scene was the most badass thing that ever happened in my life.
"Is it over? Will we fight the Dweller?" Kane asked, but I can't answer that question.
I just shrugged my shoulders while bashing my way towards the two yakuza's sides. When we reached the end seats, my eyes met the two figures and a weird-looking zombie on the ground. I let the two siblings inside and told them to rest for a while. After closing the door behind us, those zombies banged their heads against the gate.
But no matter how hard they tried pushing through inside, those infected could never enter this part…. Well, that's what I thought, not until this train showed signs of shivering.
Upon defeating the Hoarder, we waited for a few moments for the Dweller to come. The system mentioned that this special infected Dweller was something menacing. Without its descriptions, we would blindly fight that monstrous special infected, which made it scarier than it seemed.
But after waiting for too long, Kane deduced the Dweller won't come. And that was the greatest news we could hear after all that had occurred.
"We made it... I thought we're going to die," the girl exclaimed, while gasping for air.
Within a few minutes, the girl fell to the ground and desperately made dozens of quick inhales. Her chest rose and fell, with the girl holding her neck. Everyone who saw the scene immediately went towards the girl, startled by what happened. I pushed her hands away from her nape and freed her trachea from the girl's fingers.
None of us had any background in medical-related issues. So we stared at the girl, unsure of what to do. The little brother shook his sister and called out her name, praying she would be alright.
"Nee-chan... Nee-chan! Asami Nee-chan, get yourself together!"
Now that I thought about it, I never really asked for these two siblings' names. I just called her girl, sibling, brother, and sister, but never their names.
Despite her brother's call, Asami refused to reply. She focused all her might on calming herself down and breathing every oxygen she could have. After a few seconds, I concluded that Asami might have had a health problem that she didn't mention.
But it was too late for that.
Kane wanted to help since he was a yakuza and an adult of this group. However, he wasn't sure if anything could help, considering that this did not happen every day in their clan. But I took the initiative and did everything that I could to help this girl's condition.
"Hey, kid. Does your sister have asthma?" I asked.
I may be an idiot, but I knew that was the case for Asami. She kept gasping for air, hinting that the girl couldn't breathe normally like us. Asami reached out for her pockets but found out that her inhaler shattered into a million pieces.
While that was happening, I checked for my phone if it met the same fate as that inhaler. Fortunately for me, my phone didn't crack even after all that.
But that thought was not important for now.
"Come on, Asami. Come on. Breathe. You can do it. Come on, girl. You have nothing to worry about, Asami. We're going to be here for you," I said, while looking her in the eyes.
I told everyone to back away and give her some fresh air before something worse could happen. Kane and Aiko mumbled to themselves, thinking if placing me in this responsibility was the right thing to do. But it was as they said earlier. Kane trusted me and became the temporary leader about what to do with the girl.
"Tell me if you need anything, and we'll do what we can to get it. In the meantime, we will check out these zombies and make sure they won't enter this train," Kane said, and went away, together with Aiko.
Yakuza had some unbreakable pride and authority, which made them look menacing and superior. There were some kind-hearted yakuza, but most of them had this fierce aura. And Kane was one of them, with Aiko at his side.
However, despite their titles, they made me in charge of Asami's health. They confessed they knew nothing about this asthma. And if I had to guess it right, they didn't have any weaknesses besides gunshots and other firearms.
But instead of taking the lead, Kane believed in me and hoped that I could save Asami. It was a decision that made my heart race and my hands shake under pressure.
The two yakuza already eyed the outside, watching the zombies striking their heads against the train. They mentally prepared themselves to fight this immeasurable number of zombies in case something terrible happened.
"Tell that girl Asami that she needs to get her shit together. If she doesn't, those zombies will eat us," Aiko uttered, while gripping his metallic pole in his hands.
"And that is clearly not helping, thank you very much!" I commented, with my eyes still glued on Asami.
"Kid, does this happen all the time?" I asked the brother, who was just as surprised as I was.
The little kid nodded upon hearing my question. That boy fiddled his hands and voiced his concerns.
"Asami is usually like that if she feels stressed. A-And she has been feeling that for a while inside the building. But my big sister doesn't want to say it. She thinks she would slow down everyone if she did."
"No shit, bro," I retorted, and went face to face with Asami. "Don't you dare think about that, okay? That's just logical, but your life is just as important as these two yakuza, okay? And even if you say that, we will protect you with all we got. So do your thing and make your magic, Asami. Fight it. Breath in and fight your sickness."
After a few seconds, something miraculous happened. Asami finally knelt and maintained steady breathing, compared to the quick breaths she had earlier. As soon as she reverted to her usual self, the girl looked me in the eye and opened her mouth.
"T-Thank you….. everyone…. I-I'm fine for now," the girl mumbled, while hopelessly trying to stand on her own feet.
Asami wiggled her legs like noodles hung above, which eventually lost her balance. But before she could kiss the ground for the second time, I dashed straight towards her and caught her body. That girl widened her eyes and gazed at my face, absorbing what had happened.
"T-Thank you…."
"Don't sweat it," I answered, and placed her back up on the side. "You didn't tell us you have asthma. If you ever need or feel something, tell us… Tell me, and we'll make sure to help you out, Asami."
The girl expanded her orbs and whispered, "H-How did you know...my name."
"Oh, that's easy. I heard it from your brother! Come on, everybody in this room knows about you now!" I replied.
"Well…. I know yours when you…. introduce yourself…. to the yakuza," the girl weakly said, and carved out a smile. "I guess…. we're even, Kawai."
