Chapter 12 - Asami Nakamura (1)

Asami Nakamura

(Author's Note: Asami means "future")

Skip this small detail if you want to continue the story. The lines would tell the chapter apart from my author's note.

(Author's note: Asami, Touma, and other characters would use Japanese Honorifics. I am not Japanese nor live in Japan. But I will sometimes switch gears and use the normal English language, since it may not be appropriate to mix two things/language in a story. So if there are any mistakes you've found, please let me know and I will try my best to change/edit them. I really want to make this novel as funny and realistic as much as possible. And since we're at it, Kawai has the culture of Deadpool and Joshdub (a popular Youtuber, from which I took my inspirations from). He also grabbed a girlfriend from an international school…. A foreigner, which was why he didn't use any honorifics while talking to her. )

This happened hours before the zombie outbreak….

I stood in front of the school's building and waited for my little brother, Touma, to show up. That brother of mine was still in his middle school, while I was a third year high school student in a different academy. And since our teachers let us off, I headed straight to Touma.

But before we could meet, my phone vibrated, telling me that someone had sent me a message. Since Touma also learned how to use a smartphone, I picked my gadget from my pocket and slid the screen open.

Instead of seeing my brother's name, the Japanese government spammed me with some emails. I did not think of it that much, considering the news about scamming and hackers. But as I read a message, my eyes blinked a million times.

"Zombies?" I asked myself, doubting the government's message.

It was not just Japan who sent me some emails. Even my social media rampaged as they spread and tweeted the news all over the internet.

Each of the netizens said the same thing….. The virus happened so fast that it spread worldwide. And the news also mentioned that the United Nations was part of that subject.

"If it had spread worldwide, then why can't I see a single zombie in my surroundings?" I asked myself, shaking my phone.

It made little sense, since zombies were an illogical thing to happen. However, that changed when I found something recently posted near my area, specifically near a department store. When I viewed someone's video live in Tokyo, Japan, the park I knew got overrun by undead creatures.

"This is…. real?" I whispered, while I slowly raised my head. "Are they rallying the people inside? Those soldiers and tanks seem legit. Those police officers weren't the only ones involved in this…"

My phone's screen showed everything I needed to know about this apocalypse. Those police officers armed with Glock 22 guns and batons attacked people. If this showed in the news, the people would have already cancelled them from their jobs. But instead of bashing them, those people beside the officers helped them fend off those undead creatures.

The people they attacked had distinct skins than the rest of us. Those Japanese and foreigners even had their limbs cut off, or their eyes plucked out of their sockets. All of them called them infected people or zombies, just like the articles had stated.

And since we were in the middle of a city, the virus spread like wildfire.

I returned my gaze at the school's gate and gaped my mouth open. The United Nations also chose my brother's school as their experimentation site. Since there were countless kids available to watch them, the scientists made way for their experiments.

I wanted to move and warn everyone, but it was already too late.

After a few seconds, my patience bore fruit as Touma appeared before the gates, together with his school friends, running along the hallway.

"Touma, I'm here!" I shouted, and waved my hands.

I brushed that zombie emergency news aside and focused on my brother. We could evacuate like the rest of us waiting outside of this school, since nobody out there still gave a damn about the news.

However, that changed when my brother ran towards me with beads of sweat drenching his face. Touma's mouth screamed as he rushed straight towards me. As soon as he reached my side, he hugged my front and shook my waist.

"Nee-chan, let's go! Zombies are eating my classmates!" Touma exclaimed, as he pointed his hands behind him.

Those words were not to send shivers down my spine, especially when they came from my brother's mouth. And as I peered through the school's hallway, something ran towards those elementary schools and pounced on top of them.

Those kids who leapt from the ground and attacked their classmates had their eyes devoid of life. They had scars covering their bodies as if they had rotted aeons ago. And when they came into contact with those children, the rabid people gnawed at the student's necks while ripping their arms.

A choir of children screaming from pain echoed through my ears. Those haunted voices only stopped when the feral students cut off the veins of those unfortunate children.

"We need to go, Touma. We need to go, NOW!" I shouted, and dragged my brother away from the scene.

Touma heeded my advice and returned the clasp of my hand. He knew the situation's weight, since it unfolded before our eyes. We passed by dozens of traffic cones parked near the cars and other people running around. There were more zombies far behind us, but those undead creatures posed no threat to us for the time being.

But as we turned around, there were also zombies on the streets. They killed most of the parents who stood beside me, together with the students. All of those undead beings did what the feral children do to the children….. They ate them all as if walking inside a baikingu.

As we stepped back, two zombies in front of us glared in our direction. The surrounding zombies focused themselves, crunching the limbs of other humans, except for this pair.

I seized my opportunity and made a run for it at the sides, pulling with me my brother. Fortunately, Touma was on the same page as me as the two of us glided on the streets, avoiding the zombie's attacks.

Luckily, the parents beside me panicked across the streets without looking at their surroundings. All those children also sprinted with them, which made the zombies inside the school chase after our tails.

And since we were in a pickle, we had no other choice but to slip through these zombies. However, as we went past the two zombies, another pair of screams echoed behind me. As I glanced at my rear, a child and his mother came face to face with those two undead creatures.

"Be right back, Touma. I need to save them," I exclaimed, and placed Touma behind the car where nobody could find him.

Fortunately, those zombies were just behind the automobile pursuing our behinds. If undead creatures waited for us at our fore, I would never risk Touma's life and let him wait in front.

Touma agreed and nodded his head as he waited for me at the car's front. I returned his nod and rushed towards the scene. If I learned something from Japanese mangas and movies, these zombies would only infect humans if they went inside my cells. I didn't want to touch them or risk myself getting bitten by a zombie.

Since we're already on the road, I used the orange traffic cones near the streets and slammed them across the two zombies. I took one out as the walking corpse fell to the ground. That zombie took its sweet time to pick itself from the floor and join the battle once again.

However, the other one remained upright despite banging its head against the traffic cone I threw. The zombie growled in my direction and marched its way towards me.

That undead creature stretched its arms and tried biting my arm. Luckily, I pushed the zombie first before it could even have the chance to do something in my hand. The zombie fell to the side, but immediately regained his strength and returned to his position.

But while that happened, the old girl I saved stood up and ran away. She brought the student from that school with her as the woman sprinted from us. It turned out that child was also a classmate of Touma in that elementary school, which also made me grit my teeth.

However, that already happened. There was nothing I could do to prevent it since all of us also wanted to live.

As I averted my focus from the parent, the zombie in front of me trundled in my path. I turned around and booked everything I had. I knew the zombie could effortlessly bite me upon turning around.

But as I attempted to sprint away, a pebble flung across me, hitting the undead at my back. That stone was enough to buy me some time as I headed straight towards Touma. As I met his figure, Touma had a throwing stance near the car. It was as if he was an amateur baseball player. He must have mimicked someone from the internet and applied those skills in this situation.

"Way to go, little brother! Come on, let's head towards that supermarket!" I shouted, and sprinted towards the department store.

It was also the shelter that the live post showed when I browsed the internet. As luck would have it, that place was close to here.
