Chapter 14 - Loss

At that moment, Fallon suddenly remembered the dream that he had twenty-five years ago. Icas, his childhood best friend, had betrayed him. Fallon took out his dagger and crept around the side. He would not let this country be taken over by the Nites, and by a traitor. Odi turned to see Fallon and nudged Icas. "Your Majesty!" he warned. Icas unsheathed his sword and quickly turned around and stabbed Fallon. Fallon gasped and lifted his eyes to meet Icas's. He thought he saw a flash of regret cross his eyes, but as quickly as it had arrived, it was gone.

Amias shouted and shoved through the crowd to reach his father as he fell to the ground. "Amias," Fallon said. "I'm sorry… I failed… you." Fallon's body went limp as his head fell to the ground. Tears streamed down Amias's face as he let out an anguished scream. Hadrian ran up to Amias and pulled him away from Icas and together, they ran away from the battle scene.
