Chapter 5 - Reblooming

Together, Li Xin's team charged through the abandoned ruins. Due to the pieces of buildings and walls placed on the ground, they had to separate a bit in order to not crash into the broken pieces and slow them down.

"Li Xin! Let's split up, I don't think they're here." Bing Qiling suggested.

"I don't know about that, considering the classes of our team. Our best chance of winning is if we stay together." Li Xin replied.

"No, I think it's best if we split up. Xiao Hua and I will go left. Ru Shi and Bing Qiling will go right." Tong Guo said.

"What about me? You expect me to solo? What if there are just more than one?" Li Xin asked.

"We'll come over immediately." Bing Qiling reassured Li Xin. "Now! Split!"

Li Xin sighed and complied. Although he was reluctant to split up, he couldn't do anything about it since the other four were already familiar with each other and had more chemistry together.

He understood that if he suddenly butted into a fight with them, he would most likely mess up the sync they had with each other. But that wasn't what he was worried about, he was worried about his rank. He did not want to derank to Rank F.

"Well, it looks like I'm going solo just like the old days." Li Xin murmured to himself.

After a while, Li Xin had passed the ruins and still hadn't encountered anyone yet. He didn't know what his teammates were doing since they cut all communication with them. The only thing he had was their health bars displayed on the left side which let him know that his team was still fine.

Now, Li Xin was in the middle of a forest. As Li Xin was commanding his character through the forest, he saw a bush move at the corner of his screen.

Instantly, he commanded his character to stop moving. He disconnected himself from the voice chat so he could only hear the game.

However, there was only silence.

Lancer readied his spear in case something attacked him. He was confident he could defend against whoever it was as long as it wasn't a two against one situation.

Suddenly, he heard the movement of something moving at a fast speed towards him in the right direction.

Lancer quickly turned around and saw a sword coming down at him. Before the sword could hit, Li Xin pressed several keys on the keyboard at a fast speed.

*CLING*

The sound of blades clashing against each other echoed through the forest.

Li Xin looked up to see the person's username.

"MasterOfSwords?"

"Heh, that's me. I was wondering when I was going to find someone, luckily, you came right to me. You better prepare yourself."

Li Xin widened his eyes and followed what his instincts told him to do. It was telling him to do so that's what he did.

Since Lancer jumped back, he was able to avoid his legs being swept. If that were to happen, MasterOfSwords was most likely able to deal a fatal attack to him, and he'd likely die.

"Not bad, but you'll have to do better." MasterOfSwords said as he swung his sword.

Lancer used his spear to defend against his blade, he was in a bad situation. Knights were great at close range since they used swords, however, that was the opposite for Lancers. Because spears are longer, they're meant to attack the enemy while keeping a comfortable distance.

MasterOfSwords was slowly beating him, slowly, but surely. Lancer knew he had to act quickly if he wanted to survive.

"Think, think, think." Li Xin murmured to himself before stopping. "Think? When did I ever start thinking? I'm someone who's been in every situation that made me at a disadvantage. I'm a champion."

The attacks MasterOfSwords was dealing with were becoming faster and faster. Lancer was trying his best to keep up with the speed, he needed one second to find an opening and from then on, he could fight his way through.

*CLANG*

MasterOfSwords's blade was blocked and was too high in the air. Lancer saw this as a chance, he slashed the tip of his spear across MasterOfSwords's chest and kicked him back which dealt bonus damage.

Li Xin stared at the screen amazed. He couldn't believe he just did that, after all, he was still a "newbie" to this game. A confident smile appeared on his face.

"I can win this fight after all."

Su Mingyu looked at the scene surprised, she didn't expect a Rank D to be able to deal bonus attack damage to someone who was a former Rank A.

"Nevermind, this fight is about to be even more interesting." Su Mingyu said to the professor.

"Why is that?"

"Because of this Rank D of yours named Lancer."

The professor was surprised. "Oh? You mean Li Xin? I heard he's one of the worst students in the college."

Su Mingyu looked at the professor with curiosity. "Why is that?"

"Well, he's been at Rank D for almost his entire time in college. They were considering kicking him out but his friend Dong Hai who came from a family with good influence made the school keep him." the professor explained. "But there was a condition, Li Xin has to reach Rank B or higher, otherwise, Dong Hai's family would have to pay several million dollars."

"I see, but just now, the moves he performed weren't moves that a Rank D would perform." Su Mingyu said.

"Hmm? What did he do?"

"He was slowly getting his HP* chipped by MasterOfSwords and it seemed like he couldn't do anything about it. Normally, a Rank D would give up by now since they wouldn't see much of a chance of winning." Su Mingyu replied. "However, Li Xin stayed calm and with a perfect block, he was able to deal bonus attack damage to MasterOfSwords."

The professor widened his eyes. "MasterOfSwords, you say? The one who was a former Rank A?"

Su Mingyu nodded her head. "Yes, he was someone I was scouting, but unexpectedly, he killed his own teammates causing them to lose and his punishment was being sent back to Rank D."

The professor shook his head in disapproval. "Such a talent wasted."

Su Mingyu chuckled and focused her attention on the screen. "Looks like their fight is about to begin, let's see what happens."
