Chapter 44 - XLIV: Wanting to take responsibility

The Queen was angry that from the way Aurora dodged her slap, she won't be able to hit her the way she had planned to by coming to her room even with the soldiers since the princess was trained personally by the king.

With Aurora's mind relaxed as she stared at the Queen, she knew that the Queen will not make a scene with the presence of her uncle in the castle just for her own personal fun time.

"What happened?" She decided to ask the Queen who seemed to have forgotten the right way to accuse someone.

"My son . . .," The Queen began sobbing painfully.

Aurora immediately knew that something serious that she could not take note or find out about because of the lousy behavior of the Queen had happened.

"What happened to the prince?" she had to immediately ask as he mind went back to the youth who grew up well despite the tough environment he was forced to grow up in.

"Who asked you to get involved with the werewolves?"

The Queen asked siezing the opportunity of Aurora's thoughtful state to slap her hard on her check with enough force to let the finger prints of her five fingers appear on the smooth milky white skin of Aurora's cheek.

Aurora met the Queen's gaze with her bright colored eyes unsure of how to react.

This was the first time someone was lucky enough to hit except when she was practicing with her uncle.

The Queen seemed to be surprised by the fact that she was lucky enough to hit Aurora.

She looked at her palm that had hit Aurora just now and raised moved her gaze back to Aurora's face.

Seeing her palm print on the princess's cheek made her feel a mixture of fear and satisfaction.

This was the first time she got the opportunity to make a skin contact with the princess.

She could feel her palm sting but the feelings her heart felt heavier than the stingy pain.

"Princess!" Helen ran to her master and reached towards her cheeks but stopped scared that touching it will only hurt Aurora more.

"How do I deserve such treatment from you?" Aurora asked as she lifted her hand to her face but paused in order to avoid further hurting her cheek.

"You are the reason my son got taken away by those dogs. I guess you will not be able to escape punishment this time."

Aurora hearing the sad news of her cousin, frowned and glanced at her maid.

Her maid retreated shaking her eyes. She was reminded of what happened to the Queen's brother.

She moved her gaze back to the Queen unable to understand what her maid's reaction meant and fully understanding what the Queen meant.

So, the lycans finally made their move. This was not what she expected.

Although she had no idea how the prince got kidnapped but she knew that it was not just the style of a werewolf.

They would have matched to the capital killing every single being in their kingdom if they wanted to act according to all she knew about their nature.

She did not know they will take the prince to make an exchange.

She pushed past the Queen and walked out of the room with the soldiers so scared that they moved aside since they have not being given any order from the Queen to do otherwise.

She walked towards her uncle with hurried steps. It seems the news had spread around the palace because of the stares she got even from the almost lifeless still guards of the palace.

She pushed the door of the king's study despite how hard the guards at the door tried to stop her.

She wanted a full knowledge of what happened. The Queen was clearly not in the right state of mind to explain everything to her.

Her cousin should not get harmed because of her carelessness.

The guilt that weighed down on her shoulder made her fall on her knees before the king and a few elders and his adviser who were in the study with the king.

The king shot his guards behind the princess who he had clearly ordered not to let anyone into to the study displeased and disappointed.

They all bowed in apology and closed the door after walking out when the king dismissed them with a slight tired wave of his hand.

The elders looked at the princess who had absolutely no respect for the culture of the land.

They all had it on the back of their minds that she was a spoilt princess and gave no reference to the laws and statutes of the land by doing against their standards of living for a woman but they never knew she will have the courage to fight against the king's guards to enter the study in such disrespectful manner.

A few of the exchanged glances and one of them stroked his partially white beards thoughtfully when he noticed the bright deep pink tint on the princess's cheeks.

"This is my fault," Aurora did not hesitate to take the blame for the situation they were in.

The king ignored her as he continued talking to the older men and when he was done with them, he dismissed them properly and finally moved his attention to Aurora.

"How is this your fault?" the king asked tired of the whole show he was forced to witness in only a few hours.

"I stabbed the Alpha King at the wrong time. I caused all these. I should be immediately sent to them to get the prince back," Aurora told him firmly.

"Do you know what harm will come to you the moment you walk into their Kingdom?"

"I know, I must complete the mission with my life, so I am not scared."

"You have already ruined the mission. You might not get into their Kingdom alive with the number of supernaturals that will hunt your life for the harm you caused their alpha and king."

Now, Aurora found this information very surprising although not too foreign.
