Sofia
"Are you ready to know the truth?"
They were seated around the coffee table in the living room. Her husband has arrived when he heard that his sister was being killed by his enemies. She could see Alexa still staring at him.
Poor child, it was a lot to handle, she thought.
She finally nodded, after Michael squeezed her hand.
They look cute together, she thought, happily, maybe there's a chance of her being his mate like his husband was hers.
Alexa
She couldn't believe that she, out of all the things that fate could have destined for her to be, she had to turn out to be a blood sucker.
No wonder she felt uncomfortable near Mr. Callous when he cut his hand. She could still remember the urge she got to taste that blood. The feeling both disgusted her and filled with happiness.
After she was awakened from her black out, she was met with sea-green eyes, but they weren't his eyes. There was no scar. The male had a twinkle in his eyes and brown hair, with slight wrinkles to show that he was much older than he let on with all the muscular, young appearance.
"Hello Alexa, you look just like your mother. Thank god you are okay. I am Jake. Jake Greymund."
"Michael's father?"
"Same flesh," he nodded.
"And you knew my mom?" she said, slightly in a frenzy.
"Yeah, though we met only once."
"How did you know her?"
"Because she was my sister," he said calmly.
WHAT?!! Her stomach churned and as if he sensed it, which he probably had, as quick as lightning, he grabbed hold of her hair and held the bucket till she threw up. She felt empty and light headed.
After twenty minutes, after calming his niece, she was finally ready to know the truth. She was wrapped around in a cozy spicy smelling blanket, Michael's arms around her, as they sat on the sofas in the living room. Sofia and Jake shared a knowing look but Alexa was too drowned in her desperation that she didn't care. She kept on looking at her 'uncle.' He looked nothing like her mother. But his actions most likely proved that he was. She was brought back to earth as Michael squeezed her hand and told him to go on.
"It was sixteen years before that I met her," Jake started, " Of course at that time, I didn't know that she was my sister. I felt a sudden attraction to her. Like I should protect her no matter what. And I thought I fell in love with her even though I didn't feel the mating urge, but I was young and an inexperienced werewolf," he smiled lovingly at his wife, "but now I am glad that I never married my own sister. Thinking back I didn't have any such feeling, only the kind that one would feel to his own siblings."
"Mating urge?" she asked, dumbfounded.
"Werewolves have mates, who are destined to be together since even before they were born into the nature. They are soul mates and werewolves normally can feel when their mate is near but it was very different to half werewolves, who have human blood, to be exact whether he or she was their mate or if he or she is having another creature inside them except for their kind like... Alexa, you, who is a half vampire. If the Alpha, the pack leader, finds his mate, he'll feel the mating urge and become restless till he marked her as his own, then she'll be the Luna, the caretaker besides her husband and mother of all wolves. The most respected, protected, loved woman in the pack beside their own mates," said Sofia, kissing her husband's cheek, while Michael shifted uncomfortably beside her.
She felt sudden warmth spread through her body and a strong urge to bite him, not out of thirst for blood, but something else she couldn't understand.
She nodded for Jake to continue.
"You see, we were brought up separately by your grandma and grandpa. They were Daisy and Landon Greymund. One of the most powerful Luna and Alpha to ever live. Daisy, my mother, was a human and she brought your mother up separately while I trained with my father my whole life to be a good Alpha."
"Which you are," said Michael, while Sofia looked proudly at her husband. Alexa smiled at him. No matter what fate throws in her path, she knew that they would help her guide through it.
"I met her when I planned to go to college on our birth place," he said.
"Which is?"
"The place where you came from."
The room started to spin and she held her head in her arms.
"Are you okay?" asked a concerned looking Michael, his grip tightening around her.
She looked at him, her eyes filled with love. As much as she hated to admit it, she had fallen for him in less than a month since the day she met him outside the garage.
She nodded.
"Are you sure, dear? We can continue tomorrow-"
"No, please continue. I have waited so long to know the truth and I just can't let this prevent me from that," she said, looking straight at Jake.
He smiled and nodded, his eyes filling with pride.
"Soon after I met her, we got closer, being friends and all. Going out together for movies and having fun. Typical teenage stuff, " then he sighed, "until I got to know that she has fallen for Caine. She never accepted that though but I suspected and kept on following. I didn't want her to have anything with a person like him. I loathe him because he was a vampire. The leader of vampires at that. Since the day I caught them kissing, I tried to talk sense into her but it's not like I could tell her that her boyfriend was a vampire. And yes Alexa," he said seeing her going pale, his eyes hardened as he continued, "your father was a vampire. She accused me telling that I was jealous. Then after all the fighting I had with him and her, I just let them be, thinking that they'll eventually break up but Caine Weinstein wasn't the one to let her go. When my mother found out his true nature, she died out of shock which in return made my father get furious with all those vampires. He made me the alpha and went after those blood suckers with his beta, never to be return again. I wanted to go with him, but he didn't budge from his decision. "
He took a deep breath to calm his nerves and gulp back the lump formed.
"Those murderers got them. I didn't give up believing he must be still alive and went after him, I trailed his scent till it led to your house, but she and Caine was already gone and so was my only parent and uncle alive."
"Didn't you find anything?" Alexa asked softly, she felt drained to feel any energy for mustering up the anger.
By each and word that left from her uncles' mouth, she felt pieces of her being teared from her.
"I found your mother's diary but there were only pieces of torn paper and blood. I followed pieces of paper until the river where I lost her scent as it was a stormy night. I collected all the papers and returned to my pack, thinking that she had died too. I had a son whom I need to train to be the Alpha," he gazed adoringly at Michael. "From what I gathered, that night they were at home with the children. Two girls. She had mentioned only your name. Apparently the other was also a girl as she mentioned that her husband had stolen her from her motherly grip. That night they had heard the growling of an animal and people shouting. Caine had asked her to be inside the house with the girls while he headed out to see what the fuss was about. It was then you had started to cry. She had gone to the kitchen to make dinner when the window was burst open by the howling scream and saw the wolf. From the way she had described it, it had looked just like my father. So, your father had killed mine. I tried to go after him but thinking of my family, I prevented myself. It won't do any good to them if I ended up dead too. Due to fright, she had dropped the knife on her foot. Thank god it wasn't that sharp to do much damage but she had already started to bleed. She had turned to get the first aid only to meet her dishevelled husband's hungry stare.
"Caine?" she had whispered, starting to feel that he meant harm but he had only hissed. She couldn't believe that she hadn't been able to read the signs of him being a vampire. She had tried to run but he had already grabbed hold of her. They had fought. Thanks to her vampire hunter skills she had hit him hard and run to get you and your sister but your father had taken hold of her, claiming he needed to train her and asked her to take you saying you were..."
He faltered and wouldn't meet her eyes.
"What?"
He just shook his head. He had seemed to age another forty year as he looked at her.
"Tell me!"
"That he doesn't care about you. That you were just a mere human. Not a worthy enough vampire to him, that you meant nothing to him, that you were a nobody."
She felt her heart being pierced all over again. Those were the same words that Bryan had used when he broke up with her - 'nobody'. She was shocked that it hurt her. She thought she hated her father but then, at that moment, she couldn't believe that she had loved a person whom she didn't even know how he looked like. She nodded for them to continue.
"Then your mom had grabbed hold of you and run. She ran away and went as far as she could. That was on the last paper I collected. Apparently, she had being writing while she was running hoping someone would collect them and know the truth. It was a risk actually. Humans won't believe, vampires would have hunted her down. I'll give her credit though, one of the bravest, craziest women I've ever met."
"What happened to your uncle?" she asked, her feelings a jumbled mess.
"Caine wasn't alone. He had his best friend to take care of him and my uncle almost got him, but that bloodsucker had the element of surprise on his side and-" he sucked in a sharp breath, trying to control himself, while Sofia rubbed soothing circles trying to calm him down.
"His mate?"
"He didn't have one, and now he would never find her," he said, face filled with sorrow.
"I don't know what to say," Alexa said, her eyes on the floor. "Saying that I was sorry will do no good but... I am so sorry," her chest aching for her uncles pain.
Her uncle nodded, his gaze softening, knowing how she felt when people came upto her after her mother's death saying that they are sorry but... no one even understood their pain.
"Can I see the papers?"
"Of course," said Sofia and turned to Michael, "Michael, can you go and bring them?"
"Sure, mom," he said and left.
Alexa suddenly felt lonely and gazed after him till he disappeared. She turned to face them and saw them looking at her with knowing looks on their faces. She blushed.
"Do you like our son?" Jake asked.
Was it that obvious? thought Alexa as her blush deepened and averted her eyes.
"It's nothing to be ashamed of," said Sofia kindly.
"But he's my cousin then," her heart ached as the realization settled in.
Silent settled till it was broken by Sofia's tinkling laughter. Alexa looked at them questioningly. Then Jake guffawed, shaking his head.
"Dear, I knew from the day I saw you that you'd be a part of our lives. True many will say that you are relatives but you are not connected by blood. See you have mainly vampire blood in your veins and your mother's blood being a half vampire and Michael being the Alpha means that he's a full-grown werewolf, so he only has werewolf blood," said Sofia kindly.
Her uncle continued, "I talked with Michael too and mind you he won't admit it much but he has the hots for you bad. I know my son and hearing that he apologized to you the other day, it only means that you meant something and you are his -"
"Here are the papers dad," said Michael giving her uncle a pointed look. He chuckled and raised his hands in surrender.
Michael looked at Alexa with a mischievous look in his eyes. Damn werewolves and their hearing!
She thought as she hid her face against the sofa. She raised her hand to take the pages and with the feeling of paper in her hand she was wrapped around by his warm spicy smell.
Then she was in his strong arms as he carried her towards her room. He kept her on bed and was about to go when she grabbed hold of him.
"Please don't go," she pleaded.
"I won't," he said as he locked the door and joined her. She smiled at him.
"You okay?" She nodded.
"You are taking all the news well than I thought."
"Do you need me to freak out?" she asked, poking his arm
"Please for the love of god don't!" he exclaimed, faking a heart attack. Alexa laughed to which he smiled.
He caressed her cheek as she leaned towards it. "Who's that guy who wanted to kill me and the wolf?"
"They are the same guy. His name is Marcus Washington. He's from the North pack. He sensed that you were one of them and wanted to kill you," he said, as his grip tightened around her. She snuggled up to his chest wrapped her arms around his waist.
"Is he dead?"
"No, I just couldn't kill him though I warned him no to hurt you. He thought you were a threat." A deep silence settled in. He inhaled her scent and growled slightly.
"I meant to ask; how did you know that I am one of those?"
"Your smell and I saw you run, it was faster than humans, the ability of a vampire or a werewolf. I knew you weren't a werewolf because I didn't smell your wolf."
She nodded and sucked in her breath as his eyes darkened.
"Why did you growl, and your eyes are darkened?" He held her chin and tilted until his almost dark ones met her honey-brown eyes.
"It's when I am so furious or if I am deeply aroused. Now, it's the latter. You make me go nuts, Alexa Weinstein. I am glad your car broke down in front of my garage. I am blessed to have a beautiful, clever blessed woman in my life. And don't think I wouldn't know if you sneak out. I always sleep with one eye open to alert the others during danger and now you are my major priority. Don't you even think of leaving me again," he said, his eyes glowing.
"That's a beautiful werewolf thingy," she said.
"I am a male ma'am," he said.
"I know dummy," she said, smacking him lightly, "you know what I meant."
"Do I?" he asked smugly.
"Okay fine, it's hot and does stupid things to me," she clasped her hand against her mouth while he roared with laughter.
"God save me," she muttered as her face grew warmer by the second.
"What else is so hot about me?" he wiggled his eyebrows.
"God!" she sighed.
"You owe me. I saved your life."
"You can't say that!"
"Just did."
"Urgh. You are hot. Your wolf is hot. Your growling is hot. Your fighting is hot. Your actions are-"
Her rattling stopped as his mouth crashed onto hers.
