Chapter 43 - Chapter 42: Chaotic Battle

They usually wore tatted clothes of that they took from their victims. They were about three feet tall and weighed about fifty pounds. Kobalts conversed in Draconnic Language but when they spoke it, they sounded like pupies barking.

They were similar to Lizardmen, they also laid eggs, that was why it was comon to see kobalt eggs here and there in the wilderness.

Even though they were mostly short and small it was a mistake to underestimate them, they were much stronger than typical commoners. Their Strength was mediocre but they were agile creatures, they had about 15 Dexterity.

They also had the abilities Miner and Trackmaker, this gave them the ability to make traps but they were simple, such as pitfalls and tripwires. They were timid creatures that rearly acted alone, they would only attack when they outnumbered their enemy.

There was one thing that confused him since he heard it. If they were really that timid and reliad on numbers, then why was he attacked by only one of them.

After thinking about it for awhile and could not come to any conclusion, he decided to put that thought at the back of his mind until he got more information.

He looked to the ground and saw more puddles, looking at them more clearly he could they were footprints. The only thing he could be sure about, is that the footprints were definitely not human.

He followed them, walking silently as to not make any sound. From what he knew their was most likely a sorcerer in the group. He was not very familiar on sorcerers, so he thought it was good to get more familiar with their kind.

Up until a few days ago the very concept of magic was laughable but now here he was in a world filled with it. He was taken out his thoughts when his saw blood on the ground and given it's appearance it looked somewhat fresh.

When he saw it, he continued to walk forward but suddenly stopped. He crouched down and saw a wire, he couldn't tell what material it was.

He withdrew his blade Bloodlust and gently tabbed on the wire, when the the blade and the wire made contact he could hear a matalic sound ring out.

He could still not tell what material the wire was made of but he could at least tell it was matalic. Something was making loud noises up ahead, it sounded like small dogs barking.

So unless there were dogs in the wild they were most likely kobalts. He tightened his grip on his dagger and went in the towards the direction of the sound.

From what he knew Kobalts had a greater sense of smell than humans. Remembering that he chose not to get too close. Soon he saw what layed before him.

There were about thirty kobalts with half of them had armor and the other half didn't. Their was a kobalt standing before them it had crimson scales it looked like the one that attacked him the only difference was that this one had a staff.

It was standing next to a large pot. He thought he could make out goblin meat and a few other herbs in the pot, it seemed like some kind of stew but he had a change in expression when he saw something else.

It seemed to be a human male child in the stew as well. He wasn't sure how he should feel after see that. He knew they were cruel and eating humans was to be expected but their way about it was unpleasant.

They didn't even bother to cut it up probably, it was so crudely done. When he realised what he was thinking, he wanted to slap himself. He knew they never attacked villages directly, they only ever snuck into villages and targeted woman and children because they were afraid men might retaliate.

When he looked at all of them, he felt unpleasant he knew fighting thirty kobalts was no easy feet. Alexander hid in bushes and observed them.

There was at least ten of them that were armed with either short swords, spears or clubs. He could even see some of them with shortbows.

Kobalts had a challenge rating of 3. He knew they had treasure some where. He wasn't sure if that was true or not, it was something he heard recently.

He made a slight noise as he approached from the side but luckily they didn't hear him. He knew he had to take out crimson scaled kobalt first just to be on the safe side.

After almost coming full circle he could not find any opportunity to strike. The Kobalts were in a open field and he didn't have any long range attack.

After realising that he decided that a distraction might be the best course of action. He picked up a stick near him and aimed for a tree opposite him, when he was sure he threw it.

The stick wisled through the air and hit the tree. The sound starlted the kobalts, they all as in unison looked towards were the sound was coming from.

They all looked in direction of the sound but saw nothing, those that had weapons gripped them tighter. They looked around to see any signs of the intruder but unfortunately could not see anything.

There was nothing but silence suddenly the silence was broken by a howled of pain. They all turned around and saw their leader howling in pain with a blade in his chest.

He withdrew the blade and moved back he retreated back into the shadows. Seeing what just happened they panicked but soon calmed down a bit and reached for their weapons.

They tried searching for their enemy but this time it didn't take them long to find Alexander. They used their nightvision to spot him. When they saw him they growled and rushed at him.

Alexander saw them coming and decided to roll to the side. Immediately the place the position was struck by arrows. Seeing that he almost let out a breath of air.

He had never been shot by arrows before bullets yes, but never arrows. Thanks to the speed of the arrows he could eisely avoid them but that doesn't mean he didn't find this situation troublesome.

Dealing with archers and close combatants at the same time was still troublesome. Alexander slashed his dagger at one of incoming kobalts, opening up it's throat.

One of the kobalts behind it saw a opening in his attack and struck out. It used it's sharp teeth to attack, the kobalt aimed for his neck. He attempted to to bite him, but when it bitte down it didn't feel like human flesh.

It opened it's eyes and saw what it bite down on, it saw one of it's companions. It attempted to open it's mouth when saw it's mistake but just as it was about to it stopped.

Alexander saw this and struck out first, the blade created a blinding light as it passed through the air and struck the kobalt in the head.

He was surprised by how easy the blade passed through the scales and the skull of the creature. He quickly removed the blade and moved away from those two corpses.
