Scarlett hadn't wrapped her mind around the fact that she was stuck at the age of vampires. Finding out that the one standing before her was also another kind, she didn't know how to react anymore. Above all, what would be better? Having founded by bloody vampires who would devilishly suck every drop out of her body or hunted by hunters who seemed to be of her species, her great-great, perhaps, great ancestors? Who knew they would not hunt her down once they got to know that she wasn't from their tribe? And now, at last, however, not of the least importance, werewolves. She presumed that the last entity was best, not that she had an option to choose. Also, werewolves wouldn't drink her blood, right? Perhaps, yes, they didn't live on blood but raw meat, and never blinked the eye before tearing apart their enemy. Oh, poor professor.
"Bring her to the border of land and throw there. Let's see which vampire will have a feast tonight", the man ordered the two boys who brought her there and strode out of the cabin. The professor's eyes were the size of saucers. No way on pretty earth she traveled back in the time just to become the meat of bloody vampires!
He didn't trust her. Every human from the hunter tribe was a hunter. When they were born, at the age of five they would start getting trained by their elders so that they could protect themselves on the lands of werewolves and vampires. The girl claiming that she was neither a hunter nor from their tribe was a blatant lie. It was yet to be seen when she would admit.
"You probs are not going to throw me to become a fresh meat of vampires?", the professor said, more like pleaded when the both of them exchanged a look before proceeding to her either side.
"Hey! Let me go! Why are you listening to that chunky head!", the girl's futile wiggling in the strong arms went in vain as she was already standing on her feet, being dragged out just like how she was dragged in earlier with the only difference that now she was going to become a feast of vampires.
"We do as our leader orders", the bowhead growled. Whenever the professor spoke, to them it seemed like she was from the unbeknownst side of the planet because they wouldn't understand some parts of her speech as it contained words from the modern age.
"So that muscles man is your leader. Impressive that you choose someone of that body but not all-rounder good. He has a thick skull with a peanut-sized brain there. When I said I'm not from any goddamn hunter's tribe, he should've known that I'm not speaking lies here. His judgment is near to low, shall I say poor? And with that brain of his, he can't be a good leader", the girl continued rambling as if she was at the final round of a debate election in her country and her opponent was the man she would go to all the lengths to throw an insult at the face of.
"Hey, brown head, don't you agree with me?", she snapped at the boy on her left who pretty much looked of the same age as hers.
"Come on, the leader of yours hasn't refrained you from talking to me. I won't tell him that you also think he's not worthy to be your leader. In fact, you look wiser to become a better leader than him", what was she doing anyway? Trying to trap a werewolf in sweet, sugar-coated talk? Only if she knew that they were a lot smarter to fall for the petty trick.
"If you stay alive", the bowhead answered back.
"Hahaha, you're funny. If we were meeting under different circumstances I---look! what's that!", she widened her eyes, fixing them at one spot, hoping the other two to follow the lead, and she only hoped. She had watched this ploy in movies but none of them fell for it. After trying multiple ways, she stopped speaking but didn't lay weapons. Being a scientist she was, she was thinking hard to find a way out.
If she stomped on the foot of one and elbowed the other in the stomach, maybe she could take a run, or more like considering the bulky bodies of them, they wouldn't budge. While she was focused racking her brain to find a way out, she suddenly realized that the grip around her arms was long gone. The two boys were nowhere to be seen and she was standing at what looked like the end of the jungle. The place wasn't brightly lit, however, some light from an outlying source was being showered here and there. A stream was passing at some feet, another deep forest with horizon touching trees, the thick tropical region shading the whole area on the other side of the stream.
Why all of sudden she did feel forsaken by people she just met now? Had they really left her to become the meat of vampires? She stood frozen on the spot, eying the surrounding. The sound of crickets didn't make it an ideal of a cool summer night. Bushes moving on the other side also couldn't help at all. So, this was her end? She was only 21! She had yet more inventions to make. Moreover, her parents didn't know that she time traveled.
She was also supposed to buy a gift for them on their last wedding anniversary. She hadn't teased Dylan enough. The kid from the neighbor, Jimmy, wanted to take her on a date she laughed at. She swore on all her inventions that she would go on an innocent date with the little boy once traveled in the present in one piece. And Edric. How could she forget him? What if his mom wanted to meet the girl his son had gifted his necklace to? She didn't want the beautiful necklace to be lost in the past. Damn, she didn't want to be erased by the time!
The approaching footsteps from the back jolted her in place. She dared, oh she shouldn't have, still she dared to rotate her neck.
