Chapter 36 - Tingling Time Travel

"Are you sure you wanna time travel?", the professor sighed at the question of her friend who was standing at the controls. From the very moment, they had stepped into the lab, the boy had asked the same thing the umpteenth time.

"Why don't you get that you repeating the same question won't change my mind?", the girl barely made it out of the house this morning. When she and John were talking, well more like Scarlett winning before her dad for making a fool of her by advising Edric, a.k.a hot guy, on how to win over something he wasn't looking to gain a victory of, Heaven heard some part of their conversation.

The professor was explaining to her dad that the boy who dropped her home last night, when she was almost knocked out, was Dylan's new boyfriend's stepbrother and that was how she met him not a while ago when her mom walked in on them.

She was beside herself with distraught that her daughter could be that careless, more upset with the elder, Dylan, to not be attentive about his friend getting drunk, yes, that was what the mother assumed out of the little pieces of eavesdropped conversed and letting a stranger take her home. It didn't just end there.

A voice call was sent to the boy. The boy on the other side answered the phone in a raspy voice after two ringings, entangled in sheets with the birthday boy. It was around seven in the morning. Their today's first lecture was canceled, for some reason they also didn't know, giving the couple some more time to devour and savor each other's warmth.

After getting greeted by an earful from Scarlett's mom, the boy was suddenly met by an amorous advance from his boyfriend, a lustful, erotic kiss to which he responded with the same passion Alex's lips were moving on his.

They were as good as a randy adolescent couple in the early days of their dating. Last night, after Scarlett excused herself off, the last drop of patience he was barely holding on to with his boyfriend's hand on his thigh the entire time was snatched broken by the latter attacking his lips. The way Alex was kissing him only showed the former was hungry for days. Ironically, he was, ravenous for his boyfriend's kiss, to feel the cold fingers tracing the outlines of his abs, to cradle the pretty face he fell for in his hands.

"Your stubborn a*s always goes proving that you are a young blood", huffing in petty annoyance, the boy shifted his gaze at the screen, pressing the pink 'Start' button outshining in blue neon.

"Talking as if you're a father to six, grumpy grandpa", sticking her tongue out at the boy, the girl snickered imagining her friend in his sixties, walking after his grand, great-grandchildren, with aid of a stick, calling for them with a cracked, trifled voice.

"The machine will remain on until you, hopefully, come back. At least tell me the backup password in case needed", emphasizing on 'hopefully', the boy tapped different buttons popping out here and there on the screen. The time machine had a biometric scan of the professor's right hand.

Before footing on the machine, she had activated it. Once an object was sent in the past, it would go on hibernate mode if not shut down. To operate it from that mode, a password was required but only the girl knew it. However, considering the password she had set on the backdoor of her house, figuring out this one would be a piece of cake.

"You know me better to guess it", checking her pockets for the phone, the professor replied. They weren't sure how things would work in the past for an entity coming from the future but she wasn't traveling to the age where phones weren't invented. Could she snap a shot of her past self? What day would she travel to? Would her body be passed through by people of the past? Would she speak to them directly?

With every second ticking by the clock, questions continued arising in her nervous state of mind. Nevertheless, the grain nervousness was easily smothered with strong excitement and wild ecstasy surging in her body.

Before leaving the house today, she gave tight hugs to her parents, whispering 'love you' in their ears. John and Heaven were aware of the new invention their daughter was working on. Regardless, they couldn't realize that the hug was a goodbye hug usually given at the time of departure.

"Power Status: Positive", Dylan read the line appearing on the screen after the scan was completed. A glass capsule descended from the top, locking down in the place around the professor.

"Select a year", the robotic voice sounded in the air.

"2020", the girl shouted from inside the glass, her voice coming off as if she was standing distant. Dylan turned on the microphone that was positioned inside the capsule.

"2020 has been selected", the same programmed voice reverberated.

"Checking system essentials", Dylan's fingers were twitching to hit on the 'Cancel' button at the bottom of the screen. There was still a lot to be reviewed and considered before sending a human in time. Only if the professor had not been that adamant.

"Don't worry. I'll be there to see you ugly-crying when Alex dumps you", the professor attempted to loosen the tense air that had clouded his mind, giving him an indulgent smile, though she knew that in no time soon Alex was breaking up with him.

"The system is safe to initiate the launch. The transfer will begin in..."

"It's tingling, Dylan", her body was lifted in the air like a light feather, sparks of light flashing all around inside the capsule.

"Are you traveling in time with Edric's mom necklace?", when the body was floating in the air, Dylan's eyes fell on the reflection of the heart as the lights dimmed to soft tones for a tone. One night he was on a face time with Alex when Edric's topic was causally surfaced up, revealing that the necklace he gave to Scarlett was his mom's.

"4"

"His mom's?", the girl held the flying heart pendant in her hand, pondering whether to ask Dylan to cancel the transfer or not. If the necklace belonged to Edric's mom, it must be important to him and she didn't want to risk taking it in the past.

"Dy--", before she could react, her hands started disappearing.

"Enjoy your journey."
