Chapter 1 - The Man

The black eclipsed sun, shines in the dark blood red sky, the screeching of crows is as loud as ever. A long blazing land lies underneath the flaming sky. On it is a blazing road. One that is the very definition of horror.

The stench of sulphur covers the atmosphere.

A lone man walks on this dry, arid and violated path. There is no water, yet the sound of something constantly being poured out is vividly audable.

The sound of the flow keeps getting louder and louder as he walks...

On both sides of the pathway there are infinite rows of skeletons that have been impaled by hard and pointy wooden spears. Some of them are completely rotten, so much so that the colour of the flesh has completely turned to violet.

Some of the corpses have completely been stripped away of whatever flesh was agglutinated to their bones. While some look as if they were breathing, just yesterday.

The man walks slow and steady limping on his left foot. He stops and gazes at the impaled masses of flesh and bones around him. As far as he can stare, he sees nothing but corpses.

He still can hear the sound, The flow of something...

The man's back is covered with a brown rag,

With a lot of small holes in it. A scarred doll hangs on his belt. His t-shirt of plain white with tons of blood stains. His shorts are torn on one side, the side with the left feet.

His right eye is bloodshot red, and the other one is nothing more than just a piece of marble, always looking into the same direction, never showing him anything but darkness.

The doll on the man's belt is nothing short of a mess. It's made of plastic, but has a face that looks almost human.

It's eyes are of faded blue.

It's right arm is partially broken, and its frock is torn to shreds barely hanging on its little body.

It's head is loosely attached to it's torso, tilting away from 'the man', the doll lies there lifelessly by the man's side.

The man keeps on walking.

He wonders what the corpses are for?

Who hung them up there?

For what purpose?

Why so many?

He does not get a solid answer, but that does not bother him.

He does not say a word. And keeps on walking.

On his way he hears the cries of somebody.

A girl, one who hasn't ripened up yet, he thinks to himself.

The cries now slowly cover away the sound of the flow.

He looks ahead with his only right eye.

In front of him is a small gathering of spirits, the ones that haven't set foot into the

non-material realm yet. The very ones that have not been able to leave behind their anchors and wash away into the abyss of darkness.

few men walking in front and behind them, an old woman.

In her arms, a small life.

A little girl.

The old woman consoles the child whenever she starts to cry.

The man does not have food, he is hungry.

Perhaps the people might be kind enough to give him something.

The man goes after them.

One of the youngee men, notice him.

He walks behind the group, keeping his distance. Not saying a word.

The young man turns back and looks at him. But then turns a blind eye.

As if the man never existed.

The man follows the people.

They walk for hours.

Slowly the eclipsed sun starts to fade,

hiding itself behind the valley.

cowering in fear,

For night is about to come.

The night rises. The sky is now a black shadow dawning over the land. No stars are visible, no light remains. Just a dark abyss and mist it brings with it.

The sound of the flow suddenly rises. And so does the coldness of the abyss. The land that was blazing hot moments ago is now as cold as bare ice.

The impaled corpses are now barely visible.

The darkness swirls all around them, procreating with the coldness, giving birth to mist that covers nearly everything the eyes can see.

The people do not stop. They keep on walking.

The man doesnot rest either, he keeps his silence. The only sounds that are vivid are the distortion of wind, the cluttering of the lifeless doll, the screams of footsteps and the echoes of the flow.

The men suddenly stop, and so does the person behind them.

The little girl is now asleep in the arms of the old woman, not doing anything just sleeping.

In front of them is an altar. Some ruins covering the surroundings.

It feels as if the alter just appeared out of nowhere.

The men all gather around it. All of them looking at the same central spot on the round solid body of mist right in front of them.

The woman moves forward onto the table.

They lay down the child in the middle of it.

The woman is almost expressionless, she steps back from the round slab in front of them.

Following her lead, the men all take a few steps backwards.

They all gather around at one spot and start walking away from the altar.

The man decides to stay where he is, the younger man who had noticed him before stares at him again but this time he is looking past the man and at the altar.

The people decide to leave, they all walk away from the altar slowly and silently.

The man looks at them all go. Wondering what they were all trying to do.

He then looks at the slab of an altar in front of him.

The people have all been completely swallowed away by the mist.

Not a trace of their existence is left behind..

The man looks at the sleeping child, wondering what will happen to her.

He sits back on the side, on one of the ruins. Waiting to see what happens next.

The sound of the flow, keeps on getting louder and even more louder and then SUDDENLY!!!

There's silence.

The man now feels at ease.

And just like that he falls asleep.

He feels his senses slowly dull away, he feels the stench of sulphur slowly fade away and he feels his one eyed vision darken away.

His mind covered with emptiness,

He cannot dream.

He is unable to,

he never dreams.

He never dreamed,

And he never will.

The man opens his eye, he looks around.

Its the dawn, the screeching of crows, the tearing of flesh and the chewing of corpses, with the flesh of the dead in their beaks, they fly away.

The buzzing of flies and other insects.

The eclipsed sun and the crimson-red sky.

Just another morning in the abyss.

The man turns his head towards the direction of the alter,

he sees nothing.

The girl, the ruins, the mist,

They are all gone.

The lone man looks behind him and he sees another impaled skeleton right behind him.

This one looks a lot familiar for some reason. Its skin tone signifies it's freshness, yet it reminds the man of something old, somebody he had seen just yesterday.

'The old woman' he thinks to himself.

The sound of the flow suddenly floods his mind. Before he can think of anything his ears burst.

His blood pours out of both his ears...

He screams in agony. A loud buzzing sound covers his consciousness.

He moves away from the impaled corpse. Suddenly his ears are alright.

And in front of him is a flowing river. The seen around him has changed. It's as if he suddenly entered the garden of eden.

The place he was at a moment ago suddenly becomes a distant memory.

He looks at the water, it's clean. But then suddenly it's colour changes.

It changes to the color of the void.

The trees that were all around him catch fire.

The stench of sulphur runs rampant in his nostrils.

He looks around with his only eye and suddenly he is back to the place he was anchored to.

Back to the hell he was in a second ago.

The buzzing sound was now gone.

He stood up on his feet and started to walk,

He could not find the slab, nor the ruins and neither the child.

He thought to himself.

Why do I care?

And so he Carried on. Walking on, limping on his left foot like always.

The doll rustling by his side. His rag dragging on the heated ground. The dry heated winds touch his scrouched lips. He suddenly heard the sound of something Falling.

His ears, they weren't hurt at all. But the sound of something flowing was now gone.
