Synopsis

Chapter 1 - Dahlia

I never knew my real parents, or where I came from or what my ancestry was. Bouncing from foster house to foster house, I thought I'd be doomed to live at the orphanage forever. To my surprise, the Johnson's came and adopted me at the age of 9. I never knew love until I met them. To be fair, I did give them hell for while, I was always so afraid they wouldn't want me either. I was used to the nuns bad mouthing me and condemning me every chance they got. They had a firm hand, I can't blame them, I never made anything easy on anyone. "So afraid to be alone". I was always so surprised that my adopted family looked so similar to myself. I guess I should be grateful; it made being adopted less awkward in a lot of situations. My mother Emma, she was so beautiful it was almost surreal. She was tall about 5'9, with long fiery hair, with beautiful but tired light blue eyes. My dad Ethan; seemed like a giant when they first brought me home, standing at 6'2, very muscular and he had lighter fire hair, with oddly enough with one blue and one green eye. I, myself have very red hair a mixed between cherry and auburn hair. I was asked often if I dyed my hair. I was just born that way is the usual reply. Often I'm complimented on my eyes. My eyes are a deep purple, mixed with some grey hues. I never liked how I looked, I always stood out amongst everyone, until I met the Johnson's. Mirrors were never my friend. I always felt so insecure. As a child I was malnourished and looked sickly. Today, as I stand in front the mirror I can see I'm becoming a woman. I no longer look like that sick child they rescued but it doesn't help the long deep rooted insecurities. The thing I love most about where I live is our home and land. We live just on the outskirts of town in the country; Dravenwood. I'm surrounded by trees and lots a greenery. I often visit the forest, it has always felt right. Our quaint 2 story farm house always put me at ease. It's something that looks like it's written in fairy tales and children stories, but it's my home and my life. Which drastically will turn from fairy tale, into things which nightmares are made.
