Chapter 26 - Waging War(2)

A man with luscious blond hair and pretty boy face among the group of people said to the rude middle aged man "I've got to say for a man with such a big ego, you never use your brain do you. Even when you heard from the report saying that the demon is a skilled fighter with the power to kill any knight facing it in a single strike. Your choice of action was to engage in close range combat without using your card power against a killing machine that's above your capability. Answer me Leon how retarded do you feel right from a scale from 1 to 10?"

Leon gazed at the guy with a searing anger in his eyes, but he didn't say anything since he knew what he had done was wrong in his own eyes. For an egotistical guy such as Leon, though, acknowledging one error is as difficult as ascending a mountain in the first place. An action like that would not be acceptable to him; instead, he would perform another stunt that would be his evidence to prove that he's the best. This might either result in a significant redemption or serve as another hammer to the nail, further aggravating the humiliating wound. As a matter of fact, I believe that he would do the latter, since no egomaniac can redeem himself when he's agitated, with the exception of one person, and that person is me.

But that's enough for now; I've still got two people and a group to take care of. The speedy guy attempted to recover swiftly and reunite with the reinforcements, but I halted him in his tracks. I stomped violently on the earth, causing it to burst and fill the air with a thick layer of dirt. This is to ensure that the archer is unable to detect my location and to offer me an assurance that I will be able to kill the speedy guy. Some of you may be wondering how I would maneuver through the thick dirt smoke, and the answer is that I am just that good.

I pay close attention to the sounds in my environment in order to notice any deviations. The speedy guy made the wise decision to remain silent rather than attempting to get back up. I suppose he's come to the conclusion that it would be far better to wait for his comrades to arrive and assist him rather than attempting to dash to them. In this case, making no sound is the best course of action because he would be dead in an instant otherwise. Even though I'm still paying attention to any sounds emanating from the man, I can hear the sound of footsteps approaching quickly in my way. I'm thinking that they opted to battle at close range in order to save their teammate's life. Despite the fact that the information is significant, it is not a top priority at this time. For the time being, the most essential thing is to keep track of the speedy guy's quick breathing coming from my left.

The moment I brought my arm back in preparation to strike the speedy guy, I was interrupted by a hail of iron spears rushing at me at breakneck speed. Despite the fact that it does nothing but produce further scrapes on my body, this has prompted the alerting of the speedy guy. I can hear the sound of the man shifting his location, so I attack with Expansion Style: Arm Cannon in order to avoid losing track of him. His instinct kicked in and reacted to my attack, but he was too sluggish. His delicate human body burst, sending organs and bone flying through the air and outside the dirt fog.

Gasping can be heard outside the fog. I'm thinking they weren't expecting to see their comrades insides hurtling toward them from within the smoke. I can reasonably conclude from their acts that they are not battle-hardened warriors who have fought through a series of terrible battles in which everyone maimed one another in order to have a chance to win and live another day. When they learned of the death of their companions, they would respond with either wrath or dread.

Six individuals emerged from behind the smoke, their expressions of rage etched all over their features. Looking at the emotion expressed, I know I've already won at this point. When confronted with a large amount of diversity, anger should not be the first emotion that springs to mind. Anger kills rationality, in a fight to the death, a rational judgment can determine whether or not a person will live. The more logical you are, the more adaptable your mind is to new situations. When facing someone who is more powerful than oneself, coming up with novel ideas is essential. Like in my fight against the Black Fire Demon, if I chose to escape or fight him from a large distance instead of closing the distance I would be dead. Instead I charged toward the demon and crippled the Black Fire Demon's most powerful assets, and I was victorious.

The first to strike among the six persons is the guy Leon, who waves his hand, manipulating the iron to mold it into spears before shooting them at me. When I saw his iron spears, I just disregarded them because they were incapable of causing me any harm. After that, the woman with the bow and arrow, infusing her bow with lightning before unleashing it. The lightning-fast arrow didn't reach my body because I had anticipated her strike and shot a Black Fireball in the direction of the arrow. When the arrow collided with the Black Fireball, it vanished into thin air as if it had never existed. The Black Fireball, although having destroyed the arrow, continues to advance toward the group of humans steadily.

The people in the group were aware of my frightening attack, yet they showed no signs of terror. They were standing boldly in front of the Black Fireball when it was roughly half way through its trajectory before striking them. The man who stood in the center waved his hand, and a Black Fireball that looked exactly like mine materialized and collided with my attack. Nevertheless, what these cretins didn't anticipate was that my Black Fireball didn't disperse, but instead expanded in strength. Their expressions immediately change to ones of dread, and they all rush rapidly to the side, narrowly avoiding death.

They look back at the Black Fireball in horror, before the blond man said "What just happened Xavier I thought your card ability replicated the attacks of others. Why did your attack just enhance the attack of the demon?"

Xavier replied back with a frown "I don't know Michael? However, I know that this demon is a threat beyond anything we face. Everyone focuses hard on the fight and don't lose focus, for I have a grim feeling that any one of us can die at any moment."

While the Xavier guy's prediction that they would die is partially correct, they did not need to lose focus in order for this to happen to them. In order to blast myself at their group, I employ the Expansion Style: Expansion Rocket. Xavier barely responded to my movement, before I punched him Expansion Style: Arm Cannon. However, my punch did not kill him, instead my assault collided with another transparent me. Our clash strong wind blew at the individuals in the surrounding area by a tremendous shockwave, causing them to have difficulties opening their eyes.

With another punch at him, I hit again, and he responds with the same technique in order to defend himself from my onslaught. After a couple more clashes with him, I've gained a better knowledge of his capabilities. It has the ability to mimic the strikes of his adversary with equal strength to protect or attack. However, while it seems to be broken in the fast clash, I discovered it to be weak, and this weakness is due to the fact that it cannot duplicate bloodline abilities. That is to say, if I were to activate False States or Amplification, his replication would no longer be effective in protecting himself against my punches.

I activated Amplification in a split second and hit him in the face again. Despite the fact that he employed his card ability to defend himself, my assault caused the translucent me to shatter into a million pieces. The sight of my tremendous punch heading toward him made his pupil widen. Leon utilizes his metal manipulation skills to create a protective wall around Xavier, shielding him from my strike. The impact of my fist at the iron wall, on the other hand, causes the iron to shatter into shrapnel launching itself to Xavier. However, the iron came to an abrupt halt in mid-air, as if there was a protective barrier between him and the pieces of deadly iron.
